East Cliff Reopened By Little Old Lady

Hurrah! At long last the barricades have been torn down and millionaires are now free to roam at will along our once crumbling, now repaired cliff top! Well, er, actually it appears to have been an act of defiance by one of the local grans, who's clearly been taking her iron tablets:

Either that or Her Madge (gawd bless 'er) had been booked to do the honours. Didn't spot any corgis, though.

Meanwhile, regular contributor Steve has also been out and about this afternoon, and sent me the latest piccies of the Western Undercliff (unofficial) lorry park via his mobile:

As you can see, the trucks have parked where there should only be cars, so the cars have been forced to park where there should only be grass. Our beloved council have recently, er, parked a scheme to prevent this situation, caused by foreign (and hence 'untouchable') truckers waiting for the ferry, by erecting lorry-unfriendly bollards. Instead their new masterplan is to have a 'three month monitoring period'. Yes, of course, 'monitoring' it will make all the difference, won't it!

Now you've shown the pictures, how long before the traffic wardens are down there and booking the cars for parking on the verge?

it was mightily busy around the port today. Through customs was rammed, its overspill car park was packed, and obviously all along the undercliff. Maybe our port needs some more boats

They should re-open the Hoverport at Pegwell Bay.

Or turn it into a lorry park.

And they are still parking on London Road just past the Shell petrol station.
Saw two there on my way home from work last night.

Truckers Don't Care TDC

Any more offers for TDC?

Why don't they park at Dreamland?

I see that the bandstand is now an alfresco sex venue, didn't I spot you & the new Mrs Eastcliff down there last night? She certainly seemed to be enjoying her sausage!

Richard Eastcliff said...

I'm afraid she says they're used to rather larger portions in Eastern Europe.

The bandstand has always been an alfesco sex venue for as far back as anyone can remember.

Half the kids wouldn't be around without it!

The new purple lighting must add a certain something.

Where exactly do you suggest these poor truckers park if you don't want there here. They need to get to and from via the ferries to bring you all you purchase from the local shops. Do you want them just driving around in circles polluting the air whilst they wait their turn to board?

This is supposed to be a tourist town and that is supposed to be a promenade, why not turn Port Ramsgate into a yachting marina, it would be a lot more profitable and beneficial for the town.

Anon 4:16 PM, Pegwell Bay Hoverport is a serious suggestion (I forgot to sign in earlier). It's just down the road, & could solve the problem relatively cheaply for TDC.

Richard Eastcliff said...

'Poor truckers'? Leave it out anon. 4:16pm! They park there illegally because they're too tight-arse to pay the ten quid to park legally in the port lorry park. Where, for example, they can benefit from using a proper lavatory, rather than doing their do-dos on the beach!

peter, pegwell is a nature reserve, not a lorry park. The port is big enough to handle it all, with huge swathes of tarmac underused even now. The council just need to open up the space, enforce parking restrictions at the underclif/around town/on Ramsgate approach roads, but that would be sensibe eh?

Failing that, 2,752m of tarmac and potential lorry park sits parallel to the A299 at manston. I have no idea what its used for.

Its going to get even worse at the port once the new operator to France starts.

Richard Eastcliff said...

New operator to France? That's fantasy talk and you know it!

Anonymous said...

Good idea Steve parking them up on Manston runway would be a much better use for the place than what we are doing at the moment which is subsidising its slow lingering death.

Tdc presumably will only consider solutions that do cost them any or little money, often these decisions are made to the detriment of local residents.

So when does the ECR temp fencing clock stop? Does this count as finished?

Richard Eastcliff said...

The Heras fencing has since been resurrected so the clock is still ticking!

the hover port at pegwell used to be used as an overspill park. its not as simple as just telling them to wait in oostende, because there is no parking in oostende at all. Ramsgate is the only UK channel port that i know, that has parking facilities. Turn the place into a yachting marina? what and put more people out of jobs, the number is allready majorly bad. if TransEuropa had more boats the parking 'problems' you guys are moaning about will only get worse, the only option is for you to get used to it and realise that these guys actually do deliver things like your food and most things you use in everyday life. oh and at least theyre giving TDC's socalled cleaners something to do!
