Ramsgate Front Page News

As is only appropriate for the island's premier town, the Millionaires' Playground has been splashed on the front pages of two of the local tabloids in the past 24 hours!

First Ramsgate Firster Gerry O'Donnell, aka Family Guy, adorns the front of the Thanet Times, looking for all the world like the man who is going to cost us all half a million smackeroonies, that being the amount touted for running Ramsgate's new teeny-tiny council which is being set up next year. Hmmm. Not sure whether Our Jezza will be too happy with that!

And the excellent yourfannit (available free in the corner of all your favourite local stores, usually behind the twelve boxes of Haribo etc.) tells the tale of another prominent Ramsgatonian, Tim Garbutt, who has apparently spent time in the clink after a rather bizarre argument over his company's name, and a refusal to pay court costs. Tim's wife runs the world famous Surin Thai restaurant on Harbour Street. Who knows, now that he's got a taste for it, perhaps they'll be putting porridge on the menu!

I believe TDC spent about £23,000,000 pounds last year to put this into some proportion, I believe also that that we already pay extra for the charter trustees, money which will be transferred to town council.

Yes we have already voted to pay more for a town council and no we don’t really expect TDC to let us use our own civic buildings without paying for the pleasure, which is where a lot of this money will be spent.

We have just lost our maritime museum, whereas Broadstairs council has just managed to save Crampton tower museum, perhaps TDC could give over the running of Ramsgate marina to the town council, it is currently running at a loss, with the price of mooring fees I wouldn’t think it would be hard to run it at a profit.

Maybe that should be Gerry's new name:

'£500,000 Bill'!

I would suggest that if most of Ramsgate's Charter Trustees are thinking of standing for the new town council when we get it they must all approve of the idea. If they don't they should not stand.TDC have wasted enough money on a Turner Centre for which not a single square foot of concrete has been laid yet. Surely the people of ramsgate should have more say in what goes on in their own part of the island?

Vote for 500,000 Pound Bill!

TDC must be worried about the prospect of a Town Council to launch a dirty-tricks campaign to undermine it. Mind you, I'd love to see how they arrive at the £500,000 figure. They're probably costing in four-hundred thousand for the use of Albion House. If Ramsgate Town Council achieves anything at all it will be doing better than TDC which has spent vastly more money and has been responsible for running Ramsgate into the ground.

P.S. What happened to Tim Garbutt was a disgrace. The judge involved should be fired.

Think it needs to be pointed out that the only person who seems intent on getting his hands on the poor old Ramsgate taxpayers money to the tune of £500,000 a year is our friend Gerry. What is even more worrying is how he appears to relish spending our money and actually sees this as the starting figure!
How much of that money will go toward administration and employing a highly paid town clerk as in Broadstairs?
Perhaps he has his eye on a Ramsgate Turner/O'Donnell Centre.

From the look on GO'Ds face and the way he's hunching his shoulders, I'd say he was getting to the good bit of cracking one off.
