The Last Cab Off The Rank

Today's Sadscene leads with the news that the traditional London cabbies' charity fun run to Margate has been cancelled due to the fact that there is, in reality, no more fun to be had in the Arsonists' Playground. Unless it's with a can of petrol and a box of Bryant and Mays, that is.

The run's been going since 1973, bringing mentally handicapped children and their carers to the town for a spot of welcome levity by the seaside. But no more, as the organising committee claims there is 'not enough to do' in the town. Committee chair Michael Range told the paper: 'It's down to inadequate facilities.' Other runs to Herne Bay and Hastings will continue, with Mr Range adding: 'We don't get the help from Margate. It's always been a battle. Margate has, for a while, been a thorn in our side. It's been a great venue for 30 years but not anymore.'

Blue Rinse shagpiler Sandy Beach is quoted as saying he could not understand the decision, and that he thought it was 'just politics being played out'. Personally I think Sandy should get his head out of the, er, sand, or his arse, or wherever he keeps it and take a good look around him!

Just shows how run dowm our town has become. TDC should be absolutely ashamed and has to take a high pecentage of the blame. There is very little for visitors or residents to do in Margate, and regeneration will just not happen with just a turnip centre.

Tell that to Sadscene mate. They're the the third and fourth words in their story.

And, er, the 13th and 14th words on the charity's website.

Good to see Sandy's blinkers still fit.

Even this won't sink in to the closed minds at TDC, they still think everything is rosy in the garden.

I could not believe the bit about hiring a fun fair specially for the taxis visit - trying to pretend Margate is always like that when it so obviously isn't any more - we are not fooled TDC

I had that Sandy Shagpile in the back of me cab.Whilst munching on on some jellied eels he tells me, what the papers say is a load of J Arthur Rank .
You can ave a cracking day in Margate particularly if you are a buy to letter trying to buy off plan. Sure its like Beirut at the moment only less pretty, but lots of dosh to be made.
The look in the little kiddies faces as they are taken round the estate agents is a joy to behold.

It's closer to London. What with the cost of diesel and all.

I lived in Herne Bay for years & I much prefer Margate, but even I must admit that Herne Bay looks far prettier with less boarded up shops, half-burnt constructions, etc.

We visit Herne Bay regularly and its shopping center puts ours in the shade - in fact we have to buy things there as you cannot get them in Thanet?

Intested in what you can't but in Margate, as will certainly stock it in my shop! It's a shame where this town is heading at the moment. One does notice that Cantebury Council is making a better job of managing their local towns than Tdc could ever dream of.

The tory's at tdc are failing Thanet badly. They are pesumably hoping they will ride out the current local unpopularity to their polices on the rise of Labour's present demise. As a tory voter they have lost my vote.
