More Front Than Dolly Parton

Tooling along the front yesterday with Mrs Ceaucescu (no relation), I spied a planning notice for yet another block of those luxury whatsits. As the drawing shows, this one will be by the (almost) fallen arches just before the hairpin bend on Marina Esplanade, where there's been an eyesore for donkey's years.

So regardless of what you make of the design and purpose of these blocks, regeneration really is coming on apace here in the Millionaires' Playground, what with that and the titanic Royals Sands development on the Pleasurama wasteland. Except, oh dear, right, well according to the planning history for this site, the first application to erect a block of flats there dates back to 1973. And still no sign of anything springing up other than weeds!

What will be springing up in the near future is the sea and that should put a stop to the millionaire playground lark good and proper.

What an eyesore! We should be restoring the eastern arches to match the western ones and encouraging development which highlights them not hiding them behind some monstrosity - I'd definitely recommend that everyone opposes this planning application immediately.

Patience is a virtue, Richard.
35 years is just a blink of an eye to a town like Ramsgate, which has been around for hundreds of thousands of years.
Surely you wouldn't want anyone throwing something up without careful consideration of their surroundings beforehand?
It's a principal that works very well in the pub, on a Friday and Saturday night.

I agree Lucy. After all, we wouldn't want our town despoiled by nasty blots on the landscape would we? Better it goes down the toilet if you ask me.

I believe that this development would require a statutory flood risk assessment, I am a bit tied up with Pleasurama at the moment but if anyone had got a bit of spare time perhaps they could ask TDC planning if they consulted the environment agency.

Oh! No - not "Son of Royal Sands" already? How about "People of Ramsgate strike back"?
