Blues And Twos In Cliftonville

Just getting reports over the Thanet airwaves that the Police Armed Response Unit has been called out to Cliftonville Casino. Unconfirmed at the moment, but might have more later. Unless there's anyone out there who can fill us in?

Update: The story has now appeared in Kent Online. Apparently the incident related to a disturbance involving an imitation firearm at a nearby block of flats. For full story click here.

There was a fire at Munro Cobb last night around 9-ish. Didnt look too serious thankfully. Also a fire near the Margate School for the Deaf around 7pm (a PCSO watching Victoria Road traffic said it was a derelict building). Wouldnt suprize me in the least if they were connected.

A firebug with a grudge...

Thanks for the update James. Not sure if it explains the Armed Response Unit though. Perhaps there'll be more details during the day.

BTW Munro Cobb was being redeveloped wasn't it? Was the fire serious?

I believe there is a convicted arsonist on release in the area.

Munro Cobb is being redeveloped for housing upstairs, though Im not entirely sure whats going to happen on the ground floor. Theyve just removed most of the scaffolding. As for the fire, I didnt see any flames, though I came at the end as the fire brigade were searching the windows so perhaps some of the eyewitnesses might be able to give more details on how serious it was. I saw a bit of smoke, but it was hardly billowing, so it seems to have been spotted early. Looking at the building this morning, unless you saw it last night or were told about it, you wouldnt have noticed there was ever a fire.

It could well have been some kids messing around there, Ive seen kids going in and out through the side garage door who obviously werent workers.

As for the ARU, its news to me.
