Buff Buffs Vote For Bottomy Bay

Nudes just in - the results of my latest 7 day poll have revealed the naked truth, you've voted for Botany Bay as the best Thanet beach for naturists to get their kit off!

If you recall, Thanet Council is holding a consultation on whether Botany Bay or Pegwell Bay is the most appropriate, er, shaven haven for skinny dipping. Top Thanet nudie Peter Checksfield has already stated his preference for Pegwell Bay due to its superior facilities, but it seems the majority of you have voted for the better beach at Botany, which has traditionally been the venue for whipping out your matching cuffs and collars (not that anyone seems to go in for full mufti these days). For the record, here's the final tally:

Question: Where would be the best Thanet beach for naturists to get their kit off?

Botany Bay: 42% (20 votes)
Pegwell Bay: 29% (14 votes)
Anywhere they can get a bum deal: 27% (13 votes)

I'll be more than happy to go along with the majority, but will TDC?

All will be revealed soon!!! : )

The best place is obviously right next to the Turner Contemporary when it's finally built, it will be fairly deserted and any London arty types visiting will just assume the naked hairy bodies on show are something to do with Tracy Emin..

Probably.

Incidentally when I discussed this with TDC last summer, they indicated that they couldn't officially designate that stretch of beach at Botany Bay (or Foreness Point as some people call it) for Naturism or ANYTHING, simply because there's no proper disabled access, & it would therefore break current regulations. I agree that it would be very difficult (& expensive) to have proper access there, which is why I agreed with them that Pegwell Bay would be more feasable.

But if Margate main sands gets any quiter then they might as well give us that (I noticed yesterday that they've even put a row of beach huts on the main beach to make it look more busy).

In the topsey turve world that my head lives in I find the whole discussion difficult to understand.

Is there a law that says people have to wear certain minimum clothes in this country? Surely not.

I would have thought it was perfectly legal to take all your clothes off on any beach UNLESS there are local regulations in place to say that costumes must be worn.

If this is not the case then I think it should be.

The real question TDC should be asking is on which beaches will clothing be required (and whether topless ladies are allowed and at what age children have to stop being naked...).

Those who are offended or scared of naked people (where do they hide their offensive weapons) - could then stick to the beaches designated strictly for covering up.

BTW, I am totally serious.

If Thanets beaches were to become a Haven for people who don't wear costumes I'm sure this would attract a great many more visitors than the proposed Turner Centre.
Imagine visitors - who have money to spend in restaurants, bars, B&B and on taxis...

In the south of France they have a naked half marathon every year that attracts 5000 entrants let alone the visitors who come to watch! Vive la difference!

Mrs T.P. I agree with your comments, but unfortunately the law is very hazy on all this. Yes, it's perfectly legal to be naked anywhere in public UNLESS there are specific by-laws prohibiting this (just as there are with alcohol, etc). BUT, it's also illegal to "deliberately cause offence" by being naked, which of course can be interpreted differently by different people.

One good thing is that the local police seem reasonably tolerant of non-sexual nudity: a couple of years ago I photographed a couple of models naked outside the back of The Nayland Rock Hotel in Margate (see link below), not realising that there were security cameras there...within a couple of minutes a police van came along, but when I explained what I was doing they said they'd let us cotinue for 5 minutes as long as no kids came along. Another thing is that (largely) the general public & media in Thanet support this, something that isn't happening in some other parts of the country.

You're right that this could bring lots of tourists over here (particularly from places like Germany, a country where workers strip off in parks during their lunch hour), but the chances of TDC doing this anywhere but on a quite & inaccesable beach that no-one else wants are very slim indeed...

So a minority get a beach all to themselves? What if I want to take my children there? Okay, I guess I can go elsewhere but so maybe a dozen people can layout in the buff.

8:27, They're not as much of a minority as you may think: during the late 80s / early 90s there was an official naturist beach near Whitstable, & on a good weekend we'd get around 200 people stripping off there, many travelling from as far as London & Essex. There certainly wouldn't be just a dozen people on an OFFICIAL naturist beach...

i go to bottany bay and have bathed and sunbathed fully naked ok , but you do get the occasional weirdos like once right there was this chubby guy and he was pretending to pick shells up but it was clear he just wanted to expose his anus to me, right and this other time ok a good few years ago there was this weird elderly cult leader bloke who got all these naked young boys to carry him down to the beach every day and they played footie naked, but what disturbed me was he told me he brought one of them from a poor family in india. i was young and naive at the time. if it had been now i wud have beat him to death. its cool when str8 couples have intercourse there and there are more nice people there than weirdos. oh theres always that guy in the hat that weirds everyone out. i fell asleep once ok and when i woke up he was kneeling at the foot of my towel masturbating , i was sort of flattered but it seems a bit pushy. these types give the rest of us a bad name. then there are the types who peep over the cliff trying to look at peoples vaginas and penis's. it isnt ideal but you know there has to be somewhere isn't it.

oh yeah and as for familys with screaming ugly children like there is loads of beaches, luckily most breeders are put off due to lack of facilitys. the breeders leave dirty nappies and rubbish there too which is unpleasant. take your children elsewhere silly bitch.

oh yeah i recognise that peter bloke from the beach he is a really nice guy and has a pleasant penis too.

Er, cripes.

My thoughts exactly Richard, hahaha!

So what is the current situation at Botany Bay? Are naturists continuing to use it?

Peter C said...

Howard, it's probably been too cold for them so far this year, but I'm sure they will continue to use it this year. Certainly MY advice to any naturists (or would-be naturists) is to continue using this as before.

haha sorry peter i didn't mean that in a stalkerish kind of way, but you know i was sitting down and you were standing up when we chatted so you know it was eye level.

There's a report on this in the June issue of H&E (Health & Efficiency):

http://www.nakedinthanet.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=3522&g2_imageViewsIndex=1

The write wrote to TDC several weeks ago asking for clarification on the "public consultation", but (surprise, surprise) he never got a reply. Presumably they don't want people who might support the beach to be consulted...
