Separated At Birth?

Reader Samantha writes:

Has anyone noticed the striking similarity between Tory Dr/Cllr Simon Moores' latest item on Thanet Life, where he compares the national debt to a credit card bill, and Labour MP Dr Steve Ladyman's latest article on his website, in which he compares the national debt to a credit card bill?

Are they by any chance related?

Is that the same Thanet Life thread where he tells us he ran marathons as well as having trained as a paramedic. Was that before or after he was Tony Blair's IT guru/flew the coastguard plane/got a PhD from some American university etc. etc?

It's bad news for Thanet if the conservtives plan of cutting public spending at once ever sees the days of light and cllr Moores knows this. He claims that every Thanet man, woman and child receive £9,000 from the public purse. Only if it was true, there would be no need for most of Thanet to ever work.
If Thanets voters voted tory it would be a bit like turkeys voting for christmas. Have you got your £9,000 yet ECR?

I look that most Thanet people have not work now. So may be true, yes?
Also, Turkey is Muslim country and will not vote for Christmas.

Quite clearly 8:47 doesn't have a clue what I mean by this and has not read the more detailed explanation on thanetlife.

It's to do with the total cost of services subsidy, if you wish to call it that, received by the local population.

Council tax only pays for about 40% of the bill and government and county provides the balance. In real terms and because we are the most deprived area of Kent and highly benefits dependant as well, the average total subsidy per head to provide all public services, is about £7000

I hope that makes a little more sense to readers than 8:47

I know it's hard for you to grasp 8:15 but believe it or not, some of us can actually get out of bed in the morning and achieve something useful with our lives!

Maybe the problem with getting out of bed, is that it's a little too easy to 'grasp'?

Something does not add up here in Thanet.
The total council tax paid by the areas 125,000 residents is about £80 millions. Thanet taking 14.31 percent of this and the rest for Fire and the Police. This is confirmed in Thanets Budget statement which shows just under £10 millions as council tax income. So if the council tax ie £80 millions pays for 40% of the total cost of service bill for Thanet, the total will be £200 millions. Thats not anything like £7,000 per man, woman and child but £1,600.

12-58...I should think it takes you quite a while in the mornings to inflate your ego & check that the universe is still revolving around you.

You may not like the numbers but you will find a little more detail on Thanet Life and as I mentioned there, Cliftonville and Margate Central is close to £8.5k per person. These are all detailed figures and are freely available.

You really have to understand how the funding is calculated on a county basis and what is meant by the total costs of public services and what it involves before you try and speculate about the figures.

Can I have a cheque for my £7K now please Doc? Just leave the payee blank. Cheers.

Cllr Moores you stated that 40 percent of the total funded services was from council tax. Maybe you can point me to the article where you have arrived at the £7000/£8,5000 figures are are on your blog. You may also be interested to know that some people in Thanet do understand a bit about ecomonics.

Dr, what is the posting on Thanet Life that gives us the details on the £7/8.5k that everyone in Thanet is subsidised by?
