Broadstairs Goes To Iceland

Chips cheap as, er, chips store Iceland has bought up the former Woolies in Boredstares High Street, according to the BBC. How refreshing that the Dickensians should at last be getting a taste of the kind of elegant, quality shopping we enjoy here in the Millionaires' Playground. I feel certain Kerry Katona (for it is she who puts the 'elan' in 'Iceland') will fit in with the Blue Rinsers and old duffers just fine!

As you infer, Ramsgate has already had it's chips.

You won't be saying that when all the second homers in Broadstairs are on the dole and your high street looks like downtown Gaza.

Broadstair residents and traders will be saved by all those new ferry euro rich travellers passing through Ramsgate, unless of course TDC starts to promote Ramsgate!

I think it's dreadful, the last thing I want to see when I go into Broadstairs for a few glasses of wine is a bunch of the sort of unwashed, tatooed special folk who loiter outside Iceland in Margate, smoking their fags and shouting at little Aisha and Mercedes.

What next, are they going to turn the bookshop into a bookie?

Sadly, at the moment, there are too many empty shops in the High Street, Broadstairs with very few people shopping in the those that are open. Even the charity shops don't seem to be pulling in the punters so an investment like Iceland has to be welcomed. In the past, empty premises became estate agents or mortgage brokers but not now. A town can't survive on coffee shops or bars when there's a downturn in the economy and incomes are becoming strained.
