Hornby To Play With Bigger Train Set

Margate model manufacturers Hornby have reported a late surge in sales in the run up to Christmas, and say they'll continue with expansion across Europe. The company makes model chuffers, Lewis Hamilton style Scalextric sets, Corgi toys and Airfix glue-your-hands-together kits.

Hornby's success clearly demonstrates that staying in and playing with yourself is the new going out. Although if you want to invite a friend, I can thoroughly recommend the Horny Pain Set, a snip at £29,95 from Pillow Talk on Margate front.

Update: The Hornby Visitor Centre in Margate launches on 3 July 2010 and will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the year. Click here for more info.

Could Hornby come up with some products more suited to the locals.
What about a fast rail link ,order now and it might be ready in three years, or scalextix ram raider\ drink driver duel set ?

How about this for a marketing idea that would help boost Thanet and Hornby?

Lego have made a huge success of Legoland. What about a Hornbyland for the Dreamland site? It could have lifesize Scalextric rides, loads of train layouts, themed restaurants, huge Airfix models of battelships etc that you could climb around.

Am I a visionary or an anorak?

Brilliant idea

I seem to remember that Hornby wanted to do a property swap with B&Q a few years back, which would have allowed them to create a Hornby 'Heritage Centre'. Not quite as visionary as the Dreamland dream - but in the right direction?

Thanet planners though better of it though...

I think 5:55 has a good idea. I went to their factory shop just before Christmas to get my daughter two new Scalextric cars as she....errr I had crashed them too often. Two cars £20.00 then I saw a small Scalextric kit, more track, speed controllers, transformer and 2-cars for £5.00 extra! Good shop! I think its only open at Christmas though.

I have long thought 'why oh why' doesn't Hornby have a world class shop/visitors center in Margate, with the world scalextric competitions etc etc, something manageable in scale and properly run, not on the dreamland site itself but maybe where the cosmo oriental buffet is. It seem a no brainer, Hornby world anyone?

I think Hornbyland is a brilliant idea - who is going to suggest it to Hornbys? A local success story should be celebrated. The comapny are always very generous in their support of local events, raffles etc..

I so remember Millicent singing the theme to "That Was The Week That Was"; she suffered less repeats then, bless her. Oh how I miss Ned Sherrin...
