Bit Of A Stink

Holy hypocrisy! I see our Glorious Council Leader is blaming environmental bureaucracy for not clearing tons of rotting seaweed from Minnis Bay! Sandy Beach told the BBC Kent website that the stinking mess could not be moved because of the bay's Blue Flag status, adding in his usual lucid manner: 'It does seem a ludicrous rule, however I'm not the powers up there that say this is wrong or that is right.'

Would that be the same Sandy whose council seems poised to flout an Environment Agency recommendation not to build Chinese cess pits on top of our water supply, and agreed a residential development in Ramsgate on what the EA regards as a flood plain? Or is it a case of obeying the rules when it saves money, but ignoring them when it might suit your fat cat pals and bring in a bit of extra council tax dosh? I think we should be told!

We are now being seen by outsiders as having a build anything anywhere council.
With relation to the seaweed, I was there the other day and it really was disgusting.... why do we expect visitors to return? At least we could move it so there is access to the beach along the Promenade. Also I notice that Minnis Bay has lost a lot of the pebbles, what has become of those....are they being sold in bottles like Margate Sand! On that subject I have written to our leader asking for an explanation. Surely it is illegal to take the sand for sale?

The smell of seaweed may be positively glorious compared to the stink around the clocktower at Margate due to he fact that the Idiots who are in charge allowed the contractors to close the toilets at six o'clock at the weekend, this being the first big event of Margate's summer season with sunshine in abundance
I believe this will occour during the full summer season.
The current chairman of leisure on T.D.C. plainly knows nothing about
visitors needs and should be removed forthwith. But as his compatriots appear equaly stupid I doubt this will happen
We don,t deserve any visitors if this is the way we are going to treat them.

Sounds like a classic Tory tactic to me, blame someone else, anyone else and in this case its the usual Tory whipping boy Johnny Foreigner.

Gott in Himmel! Zis is vot fantasies are made of - me, Sandy and a vip!

The solution seems to be for the artist to stop taking the sand and take the seaweed instead, as much as he likes!

Could the seaweed not be turned into something useful such as cosmetics? Surely the Body Shop would be interested?

Instead of wind farms the energy companies and the EA could have dealt with the annual sea weed saga as a method to create gas for domestic use, or an alternative fuel by a composting system.

But unfortunately all we get from local politicians is a lot of hot air perhaps that could be bottled and put on public sale.

Isn't there a public health issue with bottled sand from the Tivoli Brook area?

Better the smell of seaweed than the smell of burning Margate!

City types who don't like the smell of sea weed as they don't like the smell of cow sh*t when they buy into the countryside.

I understand the local farmers used to remove the seaweed free for fertiliser, and then the Council started charging them and they basically said sod off? Now the Council pay for removal. If true someone needs a few lessons about basic economics, and green issues.

Margate this week smelt like a sewer, somebody do something with the seaweed!

Linda really-do you have to take it so seriously,if someone is daft enough to buy sand then more fool them.Dont you think there are more serious issues(ie the stench from the harbour)to write to the council about? When I have been on the beach ther is enough sand in my shoes to sell in a bottle-any takers?!

At least I have the b**** to put my name to what I have written. I seem to read in todays Daily paper that TDC are thinking of suing him anyway, so its not only me!!!

TDC suing the Margate sand-in-a-jar seller?

Surely they've forgotten that they sold most of Ramsgate beach to Sally to build the port a few years back? And now look at it - more flint than sand!

Lifes a beach, and on a beach you get sand and seaweed.
Linda, your ok, the rest need to get real. Farmers cant use the seaweed as it is considered toxic waste, so we just have to get used to wadeing throught the sh1t that we leave through global warming

well more's the pity Linda that TDC are'nt suing other people than a silly person selling sand!?dear oh dear -it is ironic..
