Rubbish Collection

Despite the generous box I had waiting for them, and indications to the contrary on their website, our beloved Tory council's bin men sailed straight past the old cliff top mansion this morning with ne'er a second glance. Resulting in me having to take the Christmas detritus to the tip in the car.

That, and their ongoing failure to introduce wheelie bins or any kind of recycling scheme in these parts, rather makes a mockery of their Safer, Greener, Cleaner slogan, doncha think?
A load of old rubbish from Thanet District Council

Annoyingly I didn't know that my rubbish, normally collected on a monday, would be collected 2 days earlier on the saturday.

Why not just collect it on the Monday as they were doing collections then and help me out a little eh? Tskkk... now I have to wait to New Year's Eve for it to be collected.

Credit where credit is due; TDCs programme this year is a darn sight better than previous efforts over an extended holiday period. In the past we have had more than 14 days between collections if the 'bin' day fell on Christmas Day/New Years day!

Most of Ramsgate was awash with witches' knickers, empty booze cans, discarded party hats and wrapping paper and several tons of dog sh*t when I walked around it yesterday. I don't call that an improvement.

My rubbish was collected as normal today - if a bit later

Well at least some of you seem satisfied.

However if we had wheelie bins and recycling round here it would perhaps prevent the enormous amount of crap that seems to festoon our streets every bin day.

And it would be better if the sweepy-uppy bloke followed the bin lorry instead of coming a day or two later. Or is that too simple for TDC to work out?

The bin men arrived as promised... if you didn't see them you certainly heard them! The cart had a wheeze on its squeeze cycle!
EDR where are we to put a wheelie bin or two if we have no front garden or forecourt. At least the bags are manageable. Can't imagine the chaos with my neighbours and I being issued with black and blue lidded wheelie bins!

well, the sweepy uppy bloke used to follow the cart, in fact it was part of the new contract that the sweeper would be part of the bin crew and while the lorry was going to Canterbury to empty its load the other members of the crew would sweep the roads that had just been collected,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,guess what,,,,,you have a heirarchy in refuse collection/ road cleaning, bottom of the pile are the sweepers next up come the loaders then the drivers and never, never, never shall one do the other ones job, so what was basically a good idea was scuppered by the refusal of the loaders to sully their hands with sweeping,,

A hundred years ago children earned money going around after the horses picking up manure for gardens

Such a shame that horses have been replaced by cars and lorries, eh?
Strawberries, for which horse manure is extremely useful to aid growth, are mostly grown in America and Spain, and pretty much all of those children from 100 years ago are dead now. If it weren't for these irritating facts, anonymous of 4:37, that would be a really good idea, instead of the ludicrous, bordering on insane, one that it actually is!
I'm afraid they're stuck with sweeping chimneys, for the moment.
