Plane Stupid
Mind you, impressive as Margate's Big Event is, it does seem more than a trifle unfair that the one weekend of the year when Margatonians have to put up with aircraft flying inches from their rooftops it's Red Arrows and Spitfires, whereas all we get in Ramsgate is those knackered old jumbos threatening to blow our tiles off every ten minutes!

I quite enjoyed the big event this afternoon but horror of horrors the same jumbo that keeps doing circuits and bumps over Ramsgate every weekend also came and did a flypast at Palm Bay towards the end of the afternoon! The live music was good though and luckily I did not suffer any after effects from the hot dog I ate!
Just who is flying that plane round and round every weekend dropping shit on our children?
And what do we get out of it?
Nothing.
Well you'd all better get used to it because the Draft Plan for Thanet which is about to be rubber stamped places emphasis on growing the airport, as well as Port Ramsgate, Westwood Town and Margate's cultural ambitions. Can't remember what it says about Broadstairs, 'more of the same' probably.
My wish is that it flies round and round in ever decreasing circles and ends up vanishing up it's own real tail end giving us all some peace of a weekend.
Couldn't have put it better myself!
With 300 Chinese businesses due to camp out at Manston soon it isn't going to get any better.
Manston eh? Not many people dare to criticise it as it's been with us for so long, and there's a sentimental attachment to it dating back to the time when it was an RAF base. And of course some people actually want to fly to Benidorm from their doorstep. But it's never going to be a success as a passenger airport, EUJet proved that. The environmental tide is also turning against air freight. As for training and maintenance, fine, so long as it's kept to light aircraft. The people of Ramsgate are not going to put up with noisy, polluting commercial jets flying over every few minutes for much longer I can tell you.
no apologies I have also posted this elsewhere although Birchington/Westgate dont suffer as much as we do!!
Circuits and bumps intermixed with airshow traffic is all very clever and interesting and done in the interests of safety, BUT it was yet another sunday afternoon ruined for the residents of Ramsgate by a series of 'training' flights.
When is TDC going to start implementing the 106 Agreement ?
When are TDC going to start renegotiating the 106 Agreement ?
Does TDC have anyone in power who actually knows what a 106 Agreement is ?
Is there anyone in the Margate based controlling Tory Group who actually cares?
Cllr Mike Harrison.
Probably not!
