Tory Story

Now that Lord Simes of Westgate has been elected a councillor 'at the edge of teh known world' (his words), I see he's wasted no time in blowing his own trumpet.

He's promoted his blog from a hitchhiker's guide to Thanet to one councillor's guide to Thanet, and instead of claiming to be Thanet's alternative newspaper it's now Thanet stories, humour (yeah right), ideas (er...), photos, politics, opinions, links and news (what, no recipes?), from Westgate Councillor Simon Moores.

No mention of affiliation to the Tories, though. Perhaps he's keeping his options open.

And an interesting comment about The Great One's future on my own blog from one of his apparently close suporters and allies, one "Nora Batty":

"Mr. Ezekiel can not be as unpopular as you imagined and as far as Biggles of Westgate is concerned, he has never expressed any wish to take the Leaders place, as far as I am aware, and I think you will find he could set his sights a lot higher if he wished. It was expected, however, by me, if by no-one else, that he would secure the highest level of votes."

I am beginning to wonder now if perhaps it is the EU or UN that is beckoning rather than the town hall...or even the House of Commons. After all, he could fly himself to all the foreign do's.

We should all genuflect.

Mind you, Nora also appears to have a "thing" about men with over-developed breasts - another comment on my blog from her... - so maybe she is not an entirely stable source.

Perhaps Nora harbours a desire to be both 'straight' (a one word oxymoron, there, as people that declare themselves such are, invariably, not being entirely honest about their proclivities) and 'bean flicker', to boot?

Personally I have lost all faith in the local elections. We all know that these people only got elected because ca 75% of Thanet's adult population didn't bother to vote for them or anyone else, not because they really deserve to be there. Also I think a lot of people did not receive their little white poll cards as they were delivered with a whole load of junk mail which most people would just throw straight in the recycling. I only found my card because I unfolded the junk mail to quickly check what was there and the white card happened to fall out.

Interesting thoughts, Justin, but I would personally prefer not to think too much about Nora's proclivities. Perfectly clear about and comfortable with my own, she - if indeed she is a she - wouldn't feature on my wish list.

Grief, given the possibilities you've just made me imagine, she's becoming a character from a Pedro Aldomovar film!

If anon 5.44 is under the immpresion that you need your 'little white card' before you can actually vote in an election there is no hope at all.
All you need to vote is to be on the register of Electors, turn up, give your name and address and vote, its really quite simple. As a large number of folks dont bother to even register its hardly suprising that turnout is low !

The self-congratulatory photo of Sandy Beach and all his sidekicks in this Tuesday's paper made me want to puke!

Perhpas one way of getting more people to vote would be to hand out raffle tickets on polling day and raffle a car or a foreign holiday - or give everyone who votes a £19 council tax rebate?

Nice idea anon 1:40!

And anon 1:36 I saw that photo too and had the same nauseous reaction. Couldn't see the Wing Co among them, though. Maybe the photo on his blog is re-touched, and he was actually that chap with the beard behind Sandy.

Come to think of it, on closer inspection I can only count 24, and one of those is, if I'm not mistaken, Sir Roger Wind. So what happened to the other 10?

I'm getting a bit fed up being anonymous all the time - how can I give myself a name to appear on your website?

Richard Eastcliff said...

Two options anonymous. Select the 'other' button under 'choose an identity' beneath the comments window, then enter your name, or something that approximates it, such as A N Onymous.

Alternatively, sign up for your own blog. You don't actually have to write anything, you can still choose for your blog identity to appear on comments (if you're signed in to Blogger at the time).

But I'd recommend having a go at putting fingers to keypad - everyone's having a go, doncha know!

Thanks for the advice and as you can see it works! - I'm a great fan of yours!
