East Of The Wantsum

Here's this week's EotW. As ever, click on the pic to see it in glorious VistaVision. Quite by chance it appeared in Friday's Gazunder under a long letter from SMEG Head Steve Higgins, itself a riposte to a couple of correspondents who had written to the paper the week before in support of Chas 'n' Dave Margate International Airport!

I must say that my initial enthusiasm for Manston four years ago has waned somewhat. After all, it's not as if you can fly to any decent destination from the place. In fact Jersey's about it. I'd rather spend my sponds in Thanet thanks. And the state of the knackered old jumbos crammed full of crap barely making it over the Ramsgate rooftops is enough to give anyone the heebee-jeebies.

What really gets my goat is the way the Kiwi owners, Infartil, have consistently ignored any environmental concerns with their endless training flights, their desperate attempts to introduce night flights and their refusal to invest in a radar system that would enable planes to turn out to sea rather than overfly the town. Oh, and their woeful neglect of noise and other pollution monitoring. Still, as our beloved council seems prepared to bend over forwards and let them have their wicked way at any and every opportunity, who can blame them for taking advantage?

I cant wait for an ECR rant when Boulogne is blockaded and all those coaches, cars, bicycles and the like clog up Ramsgates royal streets with their passengers looking for some where to spend a penny. Or should that be 99p?

Having just come back from France the exchange rate is a terrible .

I guess good for the French to come over and stock up with cheap knickers from Primark , and Rooks sausage rolls to amuse their friends at parties
