Yellow River

Cripes! I'm going to have to change my route to the blasted newsagents. After almost being mown down by half a dozen burly rozzers on their way to a drug raid yesterday, this morning I came across a fellow urinating up against a building in precisely the same spot.

It's bad enough having to dodge the barker's nests, let alone tip-toeing through human waste as well. Needless to say all I got was a grunt and the finger when I asked him if he had a wee problem.

Ah, Mr Child! Delighted to see you here on my blog. I very much enjoyed the Cockburn's Diary I purchased from your magnificent literary emporium the other day. And may I also take the opportunity to congratulate you on all the digging you've done on the Pleasurama debacle.

I am always a little worried about blogs smack a bit of Die Flamme (Pronounced De Flamer, German magazine used to promote the Nazi party in the 30s they would lampoon public figures and if what they said was called the lie, that it was, would pretend it was a joke) please call me Michael and we could even pretend that some of my comments were serious.glad you enjoyed the book it’s one of my favourites.

Nazi lampooner? I say, that's a bit strong. And I have no recollection of having pretended something was a joke if I got it wrong. In fact I can't recall ever getting anything wrong!

If I was to try and describe the ECR project, it would be more along the lines of having a bit of a laugh at the expense of buffoonery, inadequacy, incompetence and, of course, myself, with particular reference to this wonderful but neglected town of ours.

May I also say that I regard your bookshop as one of the highlights of the locality, so there's no reason why we shouldn't rub along nicely, don't you think?

I can see why Mr. Child would be sensitive about his name. Imagine the misconceptions that could be drawn from advertizing your wares under the title 'Child Books'.
I'm sure that eBay would have none of it!!!
Sad and paranoid times that we live in, eh?

Richard it’s not a reference to ECR blog in particular and certainly no suggestion that you are doing anything other than giving us some entertainment. It was just an explanation of my reluctance to comment on blogs, which I find a tempting displacement activity.

Frankly the temptation to anonymously make comments about politicians and developers that in other public forum would be impossible for fear of litigation is one I have only just managed to resist.

Did you know Ramsgate once had a radical newspaper see http://www.thanetonline.com/id71.htm I am wondering about producing a publication every month or so with the best of the articles on the local blogs in it as many people miss out not being computerate.

Do make yourself known when you come in the shop.

Point taken Michael. And an interesting link to the libel case, most reassuring to see that the plaintiffs lost!

I've often thought the Gazunder should carry a review of local blogs, but perhaps they're afraid people might find them more interesting than the paper. I think it would be a marvellous idea if you were to publish extracts - you'd be welcome to use whatever you like from here, but probably best to stick to the less contentious stuff as libel lawyers can be quite expensive.

You'd be welcome to use excerpts from my blog too, Mickey baby, but it may be just a tad too honest for the type of simple folk that hang out in book shops!

Thanks chaps I have never really considered the degree of complexity of the people in the shop, although if anything hangs out, I cough politely. As Hitler once said “I go the way that Providence dictates with the assurance of a sleepwalker.”

With a view to the blog publication project I have just started a links page http://www.thanetonline.com/id73.htm any suggestions appreciated. I suppose local papers always have lawyers advertisers and shareholders breathing down their necks but frankly they do seem to be improving at the moment.
