Taxing Question

Yikes! I see that the duffers in Cecil Square are proposing a 2.46% hike in council tax this year, followed by promised rises of 2.5% over the next four years! Quite why they should be getting any sort of increase, when there are people in Birchington who haven't had their rubbish collected for nine weeks is beyond me. Surely we should be getting a rebate?

Of course, here in the chi-chi south of the island we do pay a little more to keep it exclusive. In fact I would personally be prepared to pay double if Thanet Council promised to keep their grubby, shaky and rather dithery mitts off the place!

I am sure the old duffers would be happy to blast a channel and cast Ramsgate adrift any time Dickie. I'd pay double the council tax too to watch you and the old farts on the new Town Council disappear slowly over the horizon. After they'd sold the best bits off to pay for a giant jacussi for those of us left behind of course.

Don't think so old fruit. We've got the airport, the port, Thanet Earth, the roads, the wind farm, the best restaurants, I could go on.

All the Duffers have got is a white elephant art gallery that's going to cost them £1m a year and bring in less than 500 visitors a day if they're lucky!

Make that treble the council tax!

Thanet Earth is in Ramsgate?

I actually made a rare visit to Ramsgate's Eastcliff area today & I must admit I was surprised by how lovely it is (be nice if they did something with Winterstoke Gardens though). I'm even considering moving there myself!

Thanet Earth is on the South of the island, which is, I think, what the point was.

Don't worry, 10:02, he'd soon get fed up with photographing fat, minging birds in the raw, on the pleasurama site, being the only place on the South side of the island where they wouldn't look out of place.
He'd soon be scuttling back for the 'rich pickings' of the North.

Having lived in Ramsgate and now in Margate I would say Margate is better and we will have the TC Shame is we have got TDC over here. Oh forgot to mention the Indian Princess and its Michelin star. But in the interest of harmony I love Ramsgate cos its in Thanet and I Promote Thanet

Er, the Indian Princess doesn't have a Michelin star Don.

It has a mention.

Here in Ramsgate we have Age & Sons, which is higher up the, er, food chain with a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

Further afield and even further up the rankings there's the Marquis at Alkham, which has a Michelin Rising Star.

Then we get to the only place within 20 miles that actually does have a Michelin Star - The Sportsman at Whitstable (which I can heartily recommend!)

So, we live in a democracy? How do I vote against this tax-rise?

The bin collection was one thing. But living next to a very steep hill I was most impressed to see the total lack of interest on the council's part in making sure it was gritted or closed. Much fun was had watching our own version of the winter car olympics.
