KFC Sizzler

As you can see from my News Nibbles on the right, the BBC News website is reporting a major fire at KFC in Westwood this morning. If anybody's got any eyewitness reports or photos, do email me at richardeastcliff@yahoo.co.uk or leave a comment below.

Update: Staff now say the fire was caused by squirrels. Click here for more.

Someone left the grills on when they closed at midnight so they overheated and caught fire.

At about 11 a.m. this morning Westwood Road was jammed with shoppers trying to access ASDA, only possible by parking in Rumfields Road and walking through. There were two fire-engines, two police vans and a distict smell of chips everywhere.

Some apparent damage to the roof but beyond that it was impossible to see what had happened. Someone for the high jump, I think as the loss of trade will be considerable, I think.

I'm not one for KFC usually but did actually pop in there last week for a lunchtime nibble.

At least this time we can be pretty sure it wasn't arson, which makes a change on the Isle.

Does anyone know about the nice looking restaurant on Broadstairs High street that never opens ? .

There was a flurry of activity before Christmas and it looked nice simple metropolitan styling when I peered in . Since then the paper has stayed up in the windows and nothing has happened, do they not understand who to bung at the council to get a licence? .

It is next door to Belmonte Bowmanor lettings near the Bradstow Mill pub . As Richard so delicately points out all the time Broadstairs could really do with a nice place to eat.

At least I won't have to hold my nose when I drive past. The smell of the poor sparrows wallowing in all that grease (probably recycled from Thanet Waste Services engine oil) makes me sick. The Harvester (another dive in dining) is probably rubbing their hands with glee over the extra car parking spaces!
