Flushed With Success!

Hurrah! I see the duffers at Thanet Council have reopened the facilities at our beautiful Blue Flag beach here in the Millionaires' Playground! Now we can once more splash out when we need to spend a penny without having to tramp all the way to the bog/smoothie shack by our derelict Royal Pavilion.

I hear our new teeny-tiny council laid some heavy shit on the Cecil Square mob for, er, taking the piss when they closed the khazis at the start of the summer season. Now they're open for business, until the end of summer anyway. At least two traders told me they had lost customers due to the inconvenient conveniences, so three cheers for Ramsgate Town Council!

It's not the only place where TDC have done a U-bend U-turn. Recently they reinstated the loos at the Albion Street car park in Boredstares. Perhaps they've woken up at last to the fact that, if they want tourists to pay a visit, there has to be somewhere where they can pay a visit!

They had shut these ones? I didn't know...thank God they re-opened them again, right next to the beach...what are you meant to do with a toddler? Well done the town council, the voice of reason at last.

Never understood the thinking behind closing toilets but then there is a lot I dont understand about TDC

Ramsgate woman who needs to spend a penny said...

They hoped we wouldn't notice that they are spending millions of pounds on the Turner Centre so can't afford to run public toilets, a basic human need - not important enough obviously. Perhaps they carry bottles around with them for when they need to go?
Well done Gerry and Co.

Gerry and the Town Council had nothing to do with it. Jane Wenham-Jones from the Gazette did it. Work that one out as you're so clever.

well done GOD

No - absolutely no idea what you are spouting on about there 5:25. The loos in Albion Street car park were reopened because Broadstairs Town Council offered to pay for half the upkeep. The loos in Ramsgate have been reopened because GO'D kicked up a G'ODawful stink.

I know Jane WJ does bang on about the bogs a lot but whethere she deserves all the credit? Besides I think ECR was the first to spot the Albion Street closure with one of his East of the Wansums was he not?

The other toilets are only about 200 yards away. No wonder there are so many obese people in Thanet if walking that far to spend a penny is too much.

7:23 - the loos at Albion Road were reopenend because a decision was taken to reopen them after a certain person was convinced by the strength of JWJ's argument. The Town Council were encouraged to contribute. And the same for Ramsgate. GOD had nothing to do with anything. You don't know, so keep your opinions to yourself.

You are spouting bollocks 10.20pm.

The fact of the matter is that without Broadstairs and Ramsgate town councils both these toilets would still have been boarded up by TDC. And more would have been shut no doubt.

What this proves is that TDC do not give a tuppeny toss for the residents of Broadstairs and Ramsgate, all they care about is flogging the increasingly dead horse that is Margate. I for one thank god (and G'OD) that we at least now have some people who are prepared to stand up to them and have been elected to do so.

As for obese people in Thanet Mr Friday you are clearly too selfish to have spawned any little Fridays as my kids and everybody else's can now safely go to the toilet while I am still on the beach and remain in my sight. The toilets by the obelisk meant I had to go with them every time. It also means that their 82 year old grandad who suffers from Parkinsons does not have to try and painfully yet bravely walk 'only 200 yards' when he gets a call of nature.

well you can't spend half a million on new windows in the council offices and expect to have flushing toilets can you? well apart from TDC officers who had a shower and toilet facility costing a cool 25,000.

11:19 - You are ignorant of the facts - it is you spouting b's. Like I have previously said - you don't know, so keep your opinions to yourself.

Well I do know and you are the one talking out of a place which would more usefully be pointed at one of the toilets which have been reopened thanks to the efforts of Gerry, Ramsgate Town Council and Broadstairs Town Council.

I was walking past these toilets several days ago (I don't remember exactly which day it was). There were a number of people standing next to the toilet block, including Gerry O'Donnell and several from TDC.

I asked if the toilets had been reopened. Gerry replied that no that they hadn't, but that they were having a site meeting and that they were trying to pursuade the district council to reopen the toilets.

The way I heard it was that Gerry had a blazing row with Mark Seed TDC's chief bog cleaner/closer who tried to tell him they could not reopen the toilets as they had been 'vandalised'. Of course there was no sign of any kind of vandalism so then he tried to tell Gerry that they would be vandalised if they were reopened since they would have to open at 7am and would be a target for drug users and vandals.

I dont know about you but I for one dont know many drug users and vandals who are up and about at 7am!

11:31 Officers were told to reopen the toilets in late June/July. St.Georges toilets were the first, and negotiations held to get the Broadstairs and Ramsgate TC's to contribute after JWJ's article.

Surely ECR played more of a role in this than JWJ? He was the first to publicise the closure of the Ramsgate toilets and all the press followed up as they normally do. Three cheers for ECR.

"Officers were told to reopen the toilets in late June/July." [12:53pm]

Is that why they decided to keep them closed until mid August - so that the toilets were shut for much of the main summer season when they were most required ?

I sincerely hope that the closure hasn't jepodised the Blue Flag stautus for the beach - this is based on facilities as well as water quality.

will you lot leave the turner out of it! It gets money from different sources, talk about a broken record. Margate deserves stuff too.

Personally I'd gladly let Ramsgate have the Turner Centre...

And I'd gladly let Margate have the airport.

An airport would certainly do more to revive Margate than The Turner Centre ever will. Probably be cheaper too.

Great. I'll wrap it up and send it over.

One obervation, the public toilets has remained open next to TDC'S command HQ in Margate and are nicely refurbished as the adjoing Carpark..I hear that Conaught that recently won the tender to run the cleaning of the toilets, are in in the prcocess of making cleaners redundant, does this mean standands will drop?
