Tradesman's Entrance

Following on from my last story about Bleak House becoming a B&B, a Broadstairs reader has sent me the above photo of the backside of the place which was taken this morning. My correspondent adds:

The back of Bleak House needs a little work before the great and the good condescend to paying their hard earned wonga. Before Hilton the back was quite reasonable, this has all been done by Mr H and his delightful daughter, and this is the first sight a paying punter will have.

Crikey! I'm not sure if Wayne and Coleen will be coughing up their hard earned sponds to be living the Dickensian dream any time soon!

But they have made some substantial improvements to the interior according to Thanet Coast Life.

Surely the rougher it looks on the outside, the more genuinely Dickensian the place will look? Just needs a couple of the local pickpockets and a pit bull hanging around outside for a touch more authenticity - just a like a scene from Oliver! You gotta pick a pocket or two my darlings.

in the picture you can just see the speed boat that Charles Dickens used to go shrimping in with Wilkie Collins.
Just out of shot behind the period herras fencing is a BMW X5 which Dickens used for his ardous lecture tours (road tax expired)

I prefer my picture Micheal, it proves the old adage ,Fur coat and no knickers.

As regards Eastcliff moving I have to say we are quite picky who we let in to Broadstairs and members of the scribbling classes are not encouraged

5.42 is correct we do not like rowdy elements descending on our peaceful town.
Why only last week I had to arm lock an octogenarian who had not replaced a rubber foot from his Zimmer frame and was making an irritating noise on the High Street.

Another newcomer opened a bag of Werther originals at a bowling match and made a frightful din, this is the kind of behaviour that suggests a slipping of standards.

It starts with sweet wrappers and then pretty soon it has become Sodom and Gomarrah if we not put our collective feet down

Plus, of course, under local bylaws net curtains are banned.
