Quex Query

How about this for a money-making scheme?

1. Organise a three-day music festival at Quex Park
2. Invite top bands like UB40, The Hoosiers and Scouting for Girls
3. Charge thirty-odd quid for a ticket
4. Confiscate any liquids on entry, it being the hottest weekend of the year
5. Make people queue for hours to buy 'drinks tokens'
6. Make them queue again for a few more hours to exchange their tokens for drinks
7. Pocket the difference between what you got for the drinks tokens and what you handed out in a few measly drinks, most people having given up and thrown their tokens away.

Not bad, eh? I've had plenty of reports of people walking away in disgust at the weekend's Sound Island Music Festival, so the scam must have worked a treat for the organisers. If you'd care to read how it was for one ticket holder, pop over and take a look at Maisiegrace's blog.

Update: If anyone feels like telling their Sound Island Music Festival story to the local press, Tom Betts at yourfannit would like to hear from you. Email him at: thomas.betts@kosmedia.co.uk

Sounds just like all other music festivals. It's horrid.

I went on the Friday Night and thought it was very good, especially the Hoosiers, a great act.

As for the other factors, well the queues were immense and luckily I was driving and so didn' need a drink but I did notice that there was only one, yes ONE, queue for drinks tokens and one bar, with about five 'burger vans'.

Luckily I had a free ticket (my friend was writing a review of the Hoosiers), and also had access to the 'guest' area which got a private burger van, luxury toilets, and a bar which took cash. Brilliant for me!

At the last song of the night I made my way to the carpark and was out withing 5 minutes.

Hope this doesn't rub it in too much for all the other people. If I had paid and was intending to get drunk then I would've been very annoyed indeed, but luckily I was only there for the music.

What a disgusting way to run an event. Apparently the ticket holders were given a list of items they couldn't take with them. Some for safety I'm sure but how safe to put all those people in blazing sunshine without letting them take water with them?

You missed out this one:

8: Close the bar at 22:30 without any forewarning and make sure the punters have no way to get a refund on drinks tokens.

Quex Park are making money wherever they can!

Running concerts is one; selling land to the China Gateway is another!

Conscience? No this is Thanet and there's money to be made!

Quex selling land to the Chinese? How is that?

Apparently Quex may be in talks with CGP to sell some of their field on Manston Road to allow a road to be built linking Columbus Avenue with Manston Road. This is so the residents of Acol don't get disturbed by HGV movements 24 hours a day. Roger Gale is all for this part of the plan as he has 230 voters in Acol on his back about the traffic through their village.

Sounds like the same people organised this festival as cocked up the one at Port Lympne a week or so ago

That burger I had at the festival seems to be repeating on me.
