2030 Vision

As I sit here twiddling my proverbials, racking the old ECR cerebellum for a way to kick off my latest Thanet revelation for Private Eye (watch this space), my thoughts stray to our beloved council's vision for the island.

Quite what will be left to have a 'vision' about by 2030, once they've flogged everything off and concreted over the rest, lord knows. According to the Uranians, the Millionaires' Playground will by then be 'a premier sailing destination, with an expanded marina and additional ferry operators'. I'm not sure how that sits with flogging huge great lumps of it off (Maritime Museum, land on the port) while ensuring the place has no watery entertainment for the masses this year and simultaneously flying 5,000 knackered old jumbo jets over the place every day. And as for 'additional ferry operators', the much-trumpeted Euroferries fast service is still only a twinkle in some shipping magnate's glass eye, it seems.

You could pretty much conclude that 'vision' and 'Thanet Council' are oxymoronic. But no! As the picture above illustrates, by failing to dredge the harbour, the council is at least creating more assets, which, by 2030 they'll be able to flog off to the usual suspects for luxury apartments!

New look Thanet Tatters out this week!

Stop that at once Richard! If you keep twiddling with yourself you'll end up having visions.

Who said that? What? Is that you, Ma? You know I can't see you from down here. I'm voting Conservative this year, did I tell you?

Good job too richard>>>>>>>>>> Knew you would defect from the garbutt camp!

I've never been in the Garbage camp. And I was merely illustrating the effects of prolonged proverbial twiddling!

Pity you've suspended comments on the previous and I suppose you'll remove this. In the usual cut and run style.

However for your eyes only as it were, it seems, sad that those with a privilidged education of the class that created the trash tv, that gave Jade Goody the chance to make what she could of herself feel somehow threatened by her success, made all the more remarkable, in that she was able to provide a legacy for her children despite the pressure of her illness.

Even more astounding given an abysmal childhood, and something I didn't know till today that she didn't even win Big Brother coming in fourth.

Oh do shut your sanctimonious piehole Tony. We're all tired and want to go to bed!

I reckon Tony has a point, Jade only became famous because today's media types elevated her there....cheaply, through reality TV. Not like the good ol' days, bring back Little Ern.

A quick note to say that in these sad times I found myself smiling. Keep the poetry coming. Taken in the spirit that it was meant.

If you twiddle your cerebellum you'll end up falling over. It's the part of the brain controlling movement and balance. I think you meant cerebrum, otherwise known as cerebral cortex - the bit round the edge where thinking goes on.

I was wondering why my equilibrium was out of kilter!

But just to show I'm even more educated than you, I was in fact making an oblique reference to P.G Wodehouse's misuse of the term, as in 'exerting the old cerebellum'.

What an example your photo of the sand in the Royal Harbour is of bad decisions by our councilors, who are persuaded by glib talking buisness men that it would be a good money spinner for the town, the Royal harbour is ruined, where the Queen of the Channel layed afloat on the Invicta landing there is 15 feet of sand, expensive dredging would be needed to shift it,and it would all come back in the winter gales because the stone rockery they call a ferry port was pooply designed, and will be a problem and burden on residents for ever.
And now another layer of councillors are doing the same over Manston, and the residents will suffer again.
Stargazer.
