Chinese Puzzle

Here's a poser. Which 'popular but beseiged™' Thanet blogger wrote last November:

With perhaps a more productive purpose in mind - possibly up to 1,000 jobs over time - and with the entire cost of the visit being met by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Thanet delegation, which departs on November 18th, includes Leader of the Council, Sandy Ezekiel, Deputy Leader Roger Latchford, Chief Executive Richard Samuel, and Corporate Director, John Bunnett. They will be meeting with Chinamex, the government agency responsible for Chinese companies setting up in the West, as well as meeting company Chairman Heng Fao.

And in response to a comment added:

Fat Cats? Carbon emissions? Get a life! - It's a gruelling schedule, paid for by the Chinese who are showing strong interest in investing in Thanet - a production facility - with all the right people present to reach an agreement. Just be pleased that it may be happening for the sake of local economic prosperity. Unless of course you are bright and entrepreneurial enough to suggest something more profitable?

Answer here.

To quote the old song: "...just like a moth she flew too near the flame, and all for a glass of champagne..."

Some of the rest seems appropriate too: "...only a glass of champagne, but it led a poor girl into sin...only a glass of champagne, twas the door where the devil crept in..."

No mention there of anyone from CGP going as well, then? No mention of Manston either?

All costs paid by Chinamex tallies with the press release.

" All costs paid by Chinamex tallies with the press release. "

But does it tally with the facts ?

Surely the trip was organised by CGP not Chinamex? Is that not a conflict of interest now that CGP have put in planning permission? What has Cllr Ken Gregory head of the planning committee got to say about that given that he refuses to countenance any views from objectors to the scheme?

And why have Labour not kicked up a stink about this or are they in CGP's pockets too?

Anonymous said...

Maybe Labour don't know. Perhaps they haven't seen what ECR and others obviously have. Maybe they have and are planning their strategy even as I type.

Wait and see, shall we?

But they must know as Barry coppock is employed by Mr Wills

10.47 What can you be suggesting? CGP paid for the trip in connection with their planning application that was about to land on the Planning Department's desk?

Surely that shouldn't happen unless it's declared as such? Actually why would the Chinese Government pay for some people to come from the UK to pave the way for a development? Wouldn't it make more sense for the Chinese to come here and have a look around? Anyone know what's happening at the Wigan site where Chinamex want to open a textiles factory?

Ex-Councillor Coppock is employed by Ken Wills but why would he want to kill the golden goose, so to speak and risk losing his job?

The 'Tesco bag' documents may have been stolen from CGP in which case there will be a police investigation into the theft no doubt. That may be why Labour are keeping quiet.

It strikes me that there has maybe been a little more manipulation that we are quite used to.

I reckon it time for Bertie Biggles to step forward!

12.24 Are you suggesting that Labour nicked some papers from CGP? I think you need to withdraw that remark unless you have evidence to back up your claim. It's an outrageous statement to make and borders on being libellous.

Anonymous said...

Not at all 12:50. My comment was clumsily worded. What I meant was if Labour have seen the documents they may be wondering where they came from. If they believe them to be of dubious provenance they may not want to comment unless or until the police have investigated. Hope that's clearer.

As for libelling Labour I somehow doubt it. They do a good enough job of that themselves.

As I understand it, the contents of the Tesco bag(s) have been handed to the police to be returned to their rightful owners. A copy of these documents meanwhile has been sent to YourFannitinnit and they may decide whether or not to publish anything as a result. There has been no hint of any injunction and those who have seen contents suggest there is nothing improper contained therein. However, reasonable minded persons, I'm told, would conclude that 'TDC and CGP have a close working relationship - perhaps too close'.

You would have thought the documents would be in a Waitrose bag, but hey-ho, that's what you get when you hang around Westwood Crass, I suppose!

That depends on your definition of improper,if you are one of Sandy's arse licking sycophants you probably wouldnt see anything improper if on the other hand you are a reasonable fair minded person the contents of said Tesco bag would at least raise a few eyebrows.

1.44 my understanding is that the documents were handed to the police for them to decide if the contents warranted an investigation, that the 3 councillors who were shown it thought it serious enough to offer their resignation rather than be associated with those involved.

Stop right there...The bag in question has been handed to members of force HQ of Kent Police.

If anyone wants to doubt the validity of this post then contact Kent police press and i am sure they can let you know that this is fact.

It is also fact that the police have been informed for some time of whats been going on - and certainly not by the political parties?

I ask how can lost and found be stolen, by the party who found them, and then handed same in - and told Police?

Surely no local party member would have kept quiet if they had seen them and not reported this matter to the Police, i mean they wouldn't have kept quiet would they?

For those that know anything about any inappropriate actions regarding planning and other matters happening in Thanet, now would be a good time to come clean and contact the serious economic crimes unit, by calling Kent Police force on 01622 654388.

Right where did i put that phone, oh dear its under Tesco bag no3.

Can't wait for TDC solicitor Mr Borley's take on this one.

"Well the party concerned did not pay in the accepted sense of the word, they merely accepted the bills and settled them with their own money. The issue would be if they contracted to pay before the services, giving rise to the bills, were provided. It is open to anyone to settle someone else's bills. But without an element of prior intent one could hardly infer that influence was being sought over Thanet's planning process. Much has been made of a used Tesco bag. But what does that prove apart from that someone used it on a shopping expedition ? Let us set up a meeting of the Standards Committee with me acting as the collator of all evidence presented. Then on the evidence presented I am confident they will move to Full Council there is no case to answer. We have walked this route many a time before at Thanet Council. I remain the supreme Ali Shuffler of Council solicitors, I thank you"

Oh do keep up 6.22, Peter Borely has been retired over a year now.

CGP clearly state on their website that the visit was paid for by the Chinese. End of.

Once the Seroius Crime Units are involved, I'm sure we'll see the rats running for cover! It's amazing the things that the old Boys in Blue (Non Wooden Top Branch) can find when they start digging!

All sorts of false documentation, false declarations, and false accreditations come blinking into the searching lights from under the stones under which they crawled!
