Ramsgate In Shock Move To Essex

The old cellar's running a bit dry here at the cliff top mansion, so I thought I'd pop over to Belgium and pick up some bargain booze. Looking at the latest guide from ferrysavers.com, however, it seems I would face quite a drive to get the ferry from Ramsgate to Ostend, as our port now appears to have been relocated to somewhere between Southend and Harwich:

On the other hand, the good news is that the brand new, super-duper Eurostar station at Ebbsfleet has now opened in Ramsgate, so maybe I'll go shopping in France instead:

The new Express by Prospect by Holiday Inn by the Dual Carriageway's web site is very proud of its proximity to Ebbsfleet as well.

It's going to be a busy old summer for coach drivers relying on their satnav devices...

I came from Belgium into UK by Eurostar. I was unable to get a connection from Ebbsfleet into Ramsgate station according to the travel people. I went into super dooper St Pancras (yes, it's lovely. How much did it cost?)where Eurostar terminated. Took the underground to Victoria and then a train into Ramsgate. It took longer to get from St Pancras to Ramsgate than it did to come from Belgium to the UK. Why?

I was playing golf at Stoneless at Ebbsfleet and I was happy to report that I couldn't even hear the trains which would've ruined my round of golf. I must congratulate them on whatever soundporrfing they done at this new station.

Back to all seriousness.... "Margate, Ebbsfleet and Canterbury are all just a short drive away."

They're not technically lying are they? It's just a completely different Ebbsfleet.

At least it's comforting to know that it is not just people from Thanet who get things wrong!!

I took some relatives who were off to Belgium to Ebbsfleet yesterday afternoon. Be warned there are absolutely no facilities unless you go railside, so forget seeing off your friends and loved ones with a last minute coffee or pee.

Mind you the staff outnumbered the passengers by about ten to one.

I wonder how many poor twits have so far driven to our Ebbsfleet, thinking, like the Holiday Inn and ferrsysavers people, that it was the Eurostar Ebbsfleet?

A bit like those poor people who turn up to Alton in Hampshire looking for the theme park!

Or those poor sods who follow the brown signs to Margate expecting to spend a day out at Dreamland.

Or those poor sods being directed to the Turnip Centre.
