Favourite Fings

I've received an email from one of my regular, off-island readers. He writes:

We are about to move to your millionaires' playground - but before signing on the dotted line, we wondered if you could advise us of any good things about life on the Eastcliff as your blog tends to be a little on the negative side and we are starting to get cold feet.

Well this is by no means the first time I've been accused of negativity, which mystifies me since I was labouring under the illusion that I was bigging the area up! Hopefully I've redressed the balance with Mr Coldfeet by sending him an exhaustive list of all my favourite things about the Ile de Thanet, which are all far too mawkish and sentimental to publish here without donning a Julie Andrews wig first.

However, it's got me wondering. Do any of you lot have a fave Fannit fing?

In no particular order:
Powell Cotton Museum - amazing taxidermy.
The Shell Grotto, Margate.
Walpole Bay Hotel, Cliftonville for cream teas.
Botany Bay
RG Scotts, Margate for multi-tudes of antiques and oddities.
The Indian Princess restaurant, Margate for high quality indian delicacies.
I don't spend so much time in lovely Ramsgate, so I'm a bit thin on the ground on things to do there. I'm sure it's lovely.

Yea, along with the 'quaint' air of everything about the place. Which, I've already aired on my postings. What about ECR's blog. If I'm feeling a bit sad about something, all I do is log on for a giggle or two.... You're on the positive side about being here Richard. The hills are alive with the sound of....

The 'teeny-tiny' kiosk

Just ask if wherever they are moving from has Turner-esque sunrise and sunset, a harbour that is unfailingly lovely to look at while having a drink, more affordable and attractive architecture than you can shake a stick at, Air Show, Powerboat Show, Tall Ship show and regular fireworks; beaches, ferries and France all very near by, Canterbury, London and Paris all within sensible range, and people that have the time to stop and talk (which does take a little getting used to admittedly!). Could do with a little more regeneration for local business' sake, and there's room for some sensibleness among developers and councils, but that's very far from unique to here. Oh, just get on and move here, you're wasting good beach time... and I know it's January, but we haven't mentioned the microclimate yet...
