Any Publisity's Good Publisity

Rummaging around in my enormous inbox today, I noticed a press release from Thanet Council headed: NEW TOURISM AMBASSADORS FOR THANET.

Apparently The Duffers are training up beach inspectors and Winter Gardens staff to be 'visible and active tourist champions for Thanet'. They will also be given a handbook so that they can 'look up anything they need'.

Cllr. Martin Wise, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, said: 'This is part of the council’s approach to modernising the visitor information service that we offer' (by closing all the visitor information centres, eh Martin?). Cllr Wise's quote ends: 'I’d like to take this opportunity to publically [sic] thank Thanet Leisure Force for their help in supporting this initiative.'

Presumably the ambassadors' handbook contains such useful advice as 'The nearest publical convenience is in Canterbury'.

Ramsgate’s independent tourist information office is now up and running full time in the Custom House, they opened for the first time on a temporary basis for Dynamo Day and TDC erected a tourist information tent right outside, no sign of the tent now though.

Tourist Information Tent?
Great acronym there, for something that would be particularly suitable for erection.
Did many people come, Michael?

What kind of useless information will on the ground tourism advisors give to people who are already wandering around? How many people will they actually assist? Why not properly invest in some decent PR for the three towns and villages in the first place instead of this ridiculous visit thanet stuff that no one from outside knows where it is or has any desire to go to. They want to visit a named town. Nice permanent signage would be better than wandering advisors.

I agree 3:27. Thanet Council has been woeful when it comes to attracting tourists.

Since they closed the old TDC visitor centre down in Ramsgate (round the back streets where no visitor would ever find it) the new RTC visitor centre in the Old Custom House in Ramsgate seems to be doing a roaring trade, thanks to a little public/private initiative and a good position. It must be benefiting umpteen Ramsgate businesses with referrals to restaurants, taxi firms, guest houses etc

Might just be directing the ones who arrive by articulated truck to the benefit office and asylum centre!

Hahahahahahahaha! Hahahaha! Haha! Ha!

Cripes! I laughed so much at Bluenote's excellent joke that a little bit of poop came out there!

Now I would never cough to that, Richard, just in case I suffered the same fate!

You think that if you cough, you might fall out of ECR's bottom?

Sort of like Richard's Richard.

I think he should do the right thing and come out on his own, 7:49PM.

anon again!
I have been giving this whole matter some thought, and, I think that Thanet ought to come under the wing of Canterbury City Council
(like Whitstable and Herne Bay).
Not only would we inherit a Cathedral, but also a caring Council who somehow manage to keep High Street's open as going concerns.
Think of the money that could be saved alone!
Anyone up for that?

Do you seriously believe Canterbury would have us? Imagine inheriting all the problems that you have all been scribing about on blogs and in local papers for years.
