Better Get A Bucket And Spade

Reader Bill from Ramsgate writes:

On my regular walk along the seafront yesterday morning, I saw the following sights of neglect by our beloved council...

A bin overflowing before the bucket and spade run on the West Cliff...

The Western Undercliff. Surely these lorries, which are always parked here, should be moved on as they are illegally parked?

But hey, I saw the Councillors Kirby walking along the clifftop path so I assume they have reported both of these and they will get resolved asap...

The Eastcliff Bandstand. Don't TDC employ additional seasonal bin emptiers to ensure our town is 'spick and span' for the summer?...

The Blue Flag on Ramsgate Main Sands. Reading this sign you'd think it was up...

It's not anywhere to been seen.....

Finally, the bin-mountain down at the port...

At least that's shrinking. Now fewer households are only 20 years behind other Kent councils in getting wheelie bins.

Three jeers for TDC!

They cant pick up rubbish on a sunday but they can jackhammer the road outside my house at 10 on a sunday morning - having only just got back from abroad and looking forward to a nice couple of hours kip i was a bit annoyed to say the least

you don't expect Cllr Wise to be anymore up to the job than Cllr. Tomlinson do you. Him who said dog wardens were to be abolished when he is in charge of finance !

Get used to the it, the council cuts seem to be here in Ramsgate already, but then many Thanet folk voted Labour out so they cant moan.

Broadstairs is shameful as well. Beach looks like a landfill site after each sunny day, dog shit bins spilling out and ordinary bins overfilled. Only nine bins on all of viking bay.

Thanet council really could not try any harder in discouraging day trippers. Perhaps they are taking a bung from Brighton council.

According to the BBC Kent TDC have been busy getting an eyesore removed from Ramsgate.
Local hairdresser Marcello Marin has been ordered to take down a billboard poster of his wife after a resident complained about it showing "so much cleavage".

If TDC can do this they can sort out a bit of rubish.

anon again!
I thought that the hairdresser's poster was very good, especially as he designed it himself and his wife posed. Leave him alone - crets.
On the other hand, there is NO excuse for bins not being emptied, even on Sunday's. We pay our Council Tax to have have these services, and they are ever decreasing.
Potholes! Thanet has thousands, many dangerous, WHEN do you think that the Council's, Kent or Thanet, will get these fixed. I'm waiting with folded arms and an ever increasing scowl and grudge.
Talk about an aloof Council society. Crets.
I wish you could sue them, I wish, I wish, I wish!!!!
POOOOF.

Ok, Lets get real, the owner of the said sign has a shop in a conservation area, needs planning consent, did not apply. If he had done he may have got it, but he should apply, if he does he will get a fair hearing.

I have spoken to officers today and requested that this and similar cases be brought to my attention! Lets see what the proper process brings forward!

What a sad man your correspondent Bill is - if he had wanted a story two years ago there would be 25 lorries parked on the Western Undercliffe over any sunlit Sunday such as yesterday - due to action I highlighted as the local councillor thisd has nearly ceased to be a problem - with Bill pointing out in his negative way there were only 1 yellow lorry and a front traction vehicle parked yesterday. The Western Undercliffe is now nearly free of this problem - but do not expect Bill to be impressed -all mouth and trousers - John Kirby

Go anywhere or even back to Thanet under the last Labour council and somewhere you will/would be able to find an overflowing bin, or some fly tipping or graffiti or other eyesore. It happens and no council could guarantee to be on top of it 100% of the time. It needs some pride of area in the public and all too often, evidenced by the dog shit and sundry litter droppers, that is sadly lacking. Much more fun to keep knocking the council.

9-00PM....Why do you slag someone off for pointing out there are still lorries illegally parked??
You admit yourself the problem STILL exists. So it's not actually problem free!!!
Cretin.

'conservation area' really??!!!

As ever, poor old Ken Gregory misses the point completely. Most people, if hard choices have to be made and priorities re-ordered, would probably rather see bins emptied than low-risk and low-impact planning breaches being policed.

Plus where was the planning authority when the sorts of issues Bertie Biggles raised last year were "live". Ah yes, they involved the actions of a fellow Tory councillor didn't they. Probably explains it.

5.18 is right Ken misses the point. TDC has a legal duty to keep Thanet clean. The publicity that the poster case generated just makes TDC planning committee look pompous and stupid.

I must congratulate you on doing half a job. When are you going to finish what you started?

if you sit on the beach at the western undercliff, one refridgerated lorry chugging away on the verge behind you spoils the day.

When you've stopped all lorries parking illegally, you can crow as much as you like and take off your own all mouth and no trousers badge.

Right now, 'your' efforts are just another unfinished job in Thanet sitting in a councillors in-tray.

I was not looking for a story - I had a camera with me to take pictures of the bucket and spade event. When presented with some avoidable eyesores on an event weekend, I felt compelled to report such matters to somewhere that councillors actually take notice. Bingo, I've had two responses which is two more than I have from the council proper so far.

Btw- the bin overflowing by the bucket and spade - it was like it Saturday morning as well. It seems this part of ramsgate was neglected all weekend.

Ken gregory - conservation area. Exactly 50 yards down the road there is a house full of dossers who spill onto the street, can of special brew in hand, at all hours of the day, living this life in paradise at my expense. A 10ft high picture of a haidressers wifes tits are slightly less offensive than this daily spectacle. Priorities ken. Or are the dossers trickier to deal with than a law obiding businessman?

Its a pity TDC does not practise what it preaches. Lots of banners/chairs/pavement furniture appears without any permission - some put up by TDC?

Considering the worthless Planning Inspectorate does not actually look at how conservation areas are maladministered by TDC one wonders who is controlling what at TDC...certainly not planning control.

Perhaps we should start using the pot-holes as rubbish bins, in lieu of TDC providing us with proper ones.
They're still there at the behest of our council, so they can't really moan.

I recall Paul Carter, esteemed leader of Kent County Council, saying that all potholes would be filled and dealt with by a traget date that is now some months past. A liar or just an "over-hopeful"?

Anonymous said...

Ken, conservation area...you don't mind when it's landlords wanting to make flats below the regulated size for the area though. Again, one rule for one...one for KCC in this case.

Personally I have never found the trucks to be that annoying, mind you if they sit there running I can see why it would be rather unpleasant.

I am ever bemused by the road repairs in Ramsgate. The council must have scoured the land to find the slowest workers available. Margate Road being the worst.

As for conservation areas, don't make me laugh. They are normally the biggest eyesores of all.

Dear Bill - your equations do not add up - from 25 lorries parked two years ago to one and a half on Sunday is better than a job half done - but never mind - it will get better- most people locally however have been appreciative of my efforts - best wishes John \Kirby

Your correspondent PUFFINMAN has a wonderful Journalistic Byeline - Cretin - by his comments suits him admirably - John Kirby

If you really are John Kirby, 254, then your unhelpful and offensive contribution really shows you deserve the negative attitude being displayed towards you on this blog. So typical of the boorish, pig-ignorant Tory Party we all know and love.

I was being kind. If your objective was to rid the western undercliff of illegally parked lorries then you have so far failed.

Appreciative of what efforts? Parking was always illegal. It should never have been allowed to degenerate to such levels. If TDC councillors judge their success on failures on their watch being brought back to as they should be, you have a warped sense of achievement.

When you've actually positively influenced something you didn't allow to fail first, I'll be the first to congratulate you.

I was responding in like prose to Puffinman 254 who signed off calling me a cretin which I do take exception to -perhaps you would - John Kirby

But anon 1936 you are a cretin!

ooops, keep it nice-ish chaps. I used the crets as an explanation to Council's as a whole thing. Not to point out individuals, that's rude.
The sign must stay, as long as the Turner Contemporary does. No sign, no gallery.
Fair?

You and your fellow councillors have helped create a district where shit decides to settle. Drug addicts, drunks, problem children, asylum seekers, dole scroungers, and fraudulent benefits claimants want to live. Those of us who work and contribute see your pathetic efforts to right the wrongs you have made as feeble efforts to stem a torrent of errors over decades.

I hope you and your wife are proud.

I wasnt here when the council was run by anyone other than Tories but we can't imagine anyone can do anything worse - run the planning committees for the benefit of their cronies, flog all the assets given to them, leave rubbish for all to see day in day out, fight at mayor's functions, attack opposition ladies in shops! You speak to anyone out of the area and they think you are making it up!

You forget to mention the kitten-killing Mayor!

Anonymous said...

Yes - let's not forget Ted Watt-Ruffell, former Tory Mayor of Margate and convicted kitten killer.

While we're at it, let's also not forget Stephen Broadhurst, absentee Tory councillor for Dane Valley and resident of Panama.

Wow - From Western Undercliffe Lorries to Panama -we have ravelled a long way on this site -as Michael Winner keeps saying "Calm Down Dears" John Kirby
