You Never Started Inviting Us

It may be that the confusion is (as is so often the case) purely in my bonce, but there now seem to be two dates for the launch of Tracey Emin's 'I never stopped loving you' neon on the Droit House in Margate.

According to the Turner website, and Thanet Council's Visit Kent, the whole thing kicks off on 1 May. But according to the above flyer from the Margate old town people, it's happening on 30 April.

What we all want to know, of course, is when Her Eminence actually turns on the lights. I suspect it's some time on Friday 30th, but why the mystery? Surely, if she never stopped loving Margate, she'd want the whole town to be there? Or is it the case that only arty types and public sector worthies will get the nod, just in case the 'naysayers' turn up? I think we should be told!

Richard the thing that I find interesting about the Turner Contemporary’s recent projects is the lack of interest apparent from the only statistics I can find.

The last two projects have been associated with videos published online and embedded at various times in the gallery’s website, these videos have viewing statistics which normally show that they are viewed between once and about five times a week.

The only times that they have had significantly higher viewing statistics has been on the days that I have embedded them in blog posts.

So I think the answer here may be that virtually nobody has started to care, so perhaps she won’t bother to come down and it on and that part of the aesthetic may be that that they - we - will be turned on purely randomly at some point during the two day period.

I hope she's going to aknowledge the person(s) who actually made the neon sign instead of taking all the credit.

The launch has now miraculously appeared on the Visit Kent TDC website. It very definitely says 7pm on 30 April. I've popped it on my 'What's on in Thanet' in the sidebar on the right if anyone's interested.

It still doesn't specifically state that Our Trace will be in attendance. Perhaps negotiations are still taking place.

It'll be a shame if she doesn't turn on the lights. After all, Bob Geldof managed it. And I'd be personally upset if she doesn't make a personal appearance as I was hoping to get a glimpse of her magnificent jubblies!

Aren't there arrangements for dinner with Tracey? First it was going to be at Number 6 in the Old Town and now it's going to be at The Walpole Bay Hotel.

thursday night for a sum of £50 there is a dinner held for trace at the walpole but the real deal is at Rokka on friday night. No.6 could only cater for 60 not 200. MTP are doing thursday, turner are organising Rokka...hope that helps.
