Thanet Election Question Time - Tory

Finally, Roger Gale. In case you've been in a coma for the past 27 years, he's the Tory candidate for Thanet North.

1. Do you support repealing the ban on foxhunting?
No

2. Do you support night flights from Manston airport?
No

3. What is the single most effective measure you would support to reduce crime, unemployment and deprivation on the island?
The single most effective measure is to elect a Conservative government with the many and varied policies necessary to tackle each of these issues. In policy terms there is no one quick fix that will reduce crime, unemployment or deprivation anywhere.

Do the Tories condone forced adoption or not?

Anon - the tory chairman of the cross-party sub-committee for fostering and adoption is the current Canterbury MP, Julian Brazier. He rather robustly believes that there isn't half as much adoption going on as there ought to be.

Off thread and all that, sorry folks.

Mmm, elect the tories nationally and they promise to help Thanet locally. Er, like they did in the 80's?

I put some open questions to the local Tory politicians in a blog post about the closure of Ramsgate Maritime Museum the other day see http://thanetonline.blogspot.com/2010/04/ramsgate-maritime-museum-will-probably.html none of them answered.
Perhaps it’s because they don’t read my blog, perhaps they read yours Richard and will answerer them here.

What a load of tosh. If he doesn't support night-flights what pressure is he bringing to bear on the Tory Councillors who are determined to ensure that unrestricted night-flying IS given the go-ahead?

Politicians are quick to jump on the bandwagon to claim credit for anything their party has done. Well here's an example of collective responsibility working in reverse. If the Tories allow unrestricted night-flying, Gale can share the blame.

I appreciate that there's an election in the offing an so, we must give equal coverage to all of the candidates:

Ladyman and his Labourt cronies drew up the useless Section 106 that has failed to provide protection for local people.

Mr. Nobody, the Liberal candidate who doesn't live in, or anywhere near, Thanet, has never said anything about Manston and so we can assume he doesn't care whether night-flights go ahead or not. Why would he when he isn't going to be affected?

The Lib Dem candidate lives close to Gatwick so he is high tone deaf already. He would not know if there was a night flight or not and probably thinks that if his part of Sussex has to suffer them then why not East Kent also.

I wonder if Gale will condemn his own (Tory) Party over fox-hunting. He will say that they are only pledging to allow a free vote on the subject, but a) Cameron has said that he supports fox-hunting and b) why allow a free vote unless you are conceding as a principle that the existing law should be overturned (the view of most Tories who are in the pockets of their country-land-owning paymasters).

But of course Gale will not condemn his own Party. Party loyalty is more important to him than animal welfare.
