Question Time

Before I start sticking my enormous microphone up a variety of cavities on tonight's Babestation, I thought I'd give you the chance to have your say in the round robin email I'm sending out to Thanet's wannabe MPs.

I'll be asking them to give straight answers to three questions, which I hope reflect the three most controversial issues facing the island today. Here are the three I've come up with:

1. Do you support repealing the ban on foxhunting?
2. Do you support night flights from Manston airport?
3. What is the single most effective measure you would support to reduce crime, unemployment and deprivation on the island?

Feel free to comment below over the next 24 hours with amends or alternative suggestions.

Moustache now. Got a small slot to fill at 0030!

Please say this to Laura:

How can you prove to people that, under the polished supeficial gloss of the things you say, you are not just like the evil scum who ran our country into the ground, destroyed all our industries, caused massive unemployment which they failed to deal with, caused massive inflation and robbed the common man and woman of dignity?

As Gale if he thinks pomposity, ignorance and complacency are good ways of conducting politics in these times

Please could you ask what their stand is on amending the smoking ban so that cafes and pubs can choose to allow smoking in their own establishments?

Peter C said...

Ask them whether they support Bottomy Bay!

And Pro-Size, what's wrong with sending the lazy unfit b*stards outside to smoke?

Richard Eastcliff said...

Although I agree that the smoking ban is a, er, burning issue in some quarters Mr Pen, I'd like to keep the three questions pretty tight, but with the broadest appeal, so that the candidates have less wriggle room.

ECR, you must still be suffering from the after effects of the beer festival if you truly believe that you'll get straight answers out of any of them!

I'll be glad when all this election b*llocks is out of the way, then perhaps Mark & Simon can get back to doing what they do best - helping local people with local issues.

Local issues Peter have we got any!!!

My understanding is that developers run TDC and the politicians?

Yawn! Yawn! Yawn! I hate election campaigns!

Not getting a straight answer is also an answer in itself Mr C!

I am concerned that hoodies and tagged thugs have been getting a bit of a rough deal of late. Can you identify which party is most likely to bring in some kind of criminal discrimination touchy feely law and then slap the labour candidate accordingly.

I was just comparing your readership/commentator numbers - which are indeed impressive - with the self-proclaimed Queen of local blogging, Simon Moores. His last 8 posts have attracted on average 1.6 comments each. Oh how are the mighty fallen.

Odd on the foxhunting ban query Ms. Sandys is quoted in the Gazette saying she opposes repealing the ban and has told those who have contaced her that is her view when she told me that she'd have to weigh up the options and consult with her colleague, Roger Gale.

Talk about fence-sitting.

4.37...he was never mighty, just a wanabee. A real Billy no mates.

4:37, that's simply because his posts have been very boring lately. He's far more interesting when he keeps away from politics.

Ask if the process of brewing locally removes the pollution from Thanet water. If so local beer should be provided on NHS.

The influx of Roma and Kosovans seems to have presented a solution to Thanet's gene pool problems so no need to ask about eugenics and a programme for breeding out the Thanet whinger gene.

Here are 3 things you can put to our beloved MP's in waiting.
3 things we can learn from the French.(yes I said France !!!)

1. Align our benefits systems, the French system diminishs with time.
(Eliminates benefit seeking immigration and Sangatte revivals - workers are fair competition)

2. Have an elected Mayor (French system already adopted in London and other towns)

3. Join the Euro, no more exchange rip off.( Sterling has devalued 30% against the Euro since it was introduced in 2001)

Ask Ms.Sandys where S. Thanet ends and N. Thanet begins as she seems vague having put leaflets into various N. Thanet wards.

Ask her which constituency Dane Valley is in and if she says S. Thanet say 'Wrong, it's still N. Thanet'.

David Cameron has bought a bread-maker but can't get it to turn out bread so how does he expect to run the country if he can't work out how to make bread. Ms. Sandys can't work out where the two constituencies end so how does she expect to be taken seriously when she can't read a map?

Ask Laura fs she endorses and [still?] practices the East Kent method of contraception i.e. bum sex.

Ask he where in Thanet she lives, drinks, socialises and enjoys being.

Ask her how she feels about Margaret Thatcher and what are the most valuable five things to be gleaned from Thatherism

Liquid diet last night?

I see this morning that Mark has a non-story about Laura Sandys & Simon has a non-story about Stephen Ladyman. What a shame that none of them have interesting policies to highlight instead.

Which one will do all they can to rid Margate of the all powerful villains who constantly hold the town back? Which one will look into all the administration of regeneration grants and property developments where a conflict of interest has arisen, i.e. family members or relatives on the council, especially in the planning department. Who will be honest?

Anonymous said...

Does this mean you're canvasing opinion and are standing for election yourself as suggested in THIS PICTURE

Actually Simon Moores' story is the non-story because it's just nonsense and I cannot fathom what point he's making. So, the MP isn't in his constituency office? No actually he's out and about representing and working on behalf of his constituents. Can we ask where Roger Gale is at the moment? Doing the same, I trust. They're both still M.P.s until parliament is dissolved next week.

Mark Nottingham's story is a story because it's another example of a wannabe M.P. not knowing what she is/isn't allowed to do whilst campaigning. Railway stations aren't public places as they are owned by the rail companies. the pavement outside is public so she could have stood there quite legally.

Why are civil servants being singled out for this by the Tories? 'Transforming the civil service into a "civic service" by making regular community service a key element in civil servant staff appraisals.' Why then not people in the private sector. I'm ex civil service and have customs colleagues who have now been transferred into the UK Border Agency being asked to do Customs AND Immigraton work too and for adding on the Immigration work they're being given a 25% pay cut. My longest ever shift in Customs lasted 32 hours, working 15 hours isn't unusual when a case is running. Working for the Government is no longer worth the hassle and the public will suffer as conditions nose dive and people move out.

p.s. and they're not paid overtime before anyone asks.

the real rebecca said...

well, this just prove what i have always said, there are plenty of scummers and weirdos who will be happy to be paid almost nothing to finger the arseholes of those of us who can afford to travel and bully dusky skinned 'forrinnas'. Im sure there are plenty of perves and racists who would do it for nothing. Like that tramp who stands mournfully watching the harbour everynight with his bag of special brew.

Digital economy bill backlash dominates e-election debate

I find it difficult comprehend that a blogger and his followers who, by definition, communicate freely on the internet have not even mentioned
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/apr/08/internet-piracy-bill

Do any of you have any idea of the reality of what was slipped through the net two days ago ?

They've pulled the wool over everyone's eyes by implying the bill is about P2P filesharing. It is SO not. Check it out. Because we are about to be roughly even with China in terms of censorship powers by the government. Except in our country you don't even have to be the government. Any media company will be able to control our internet experience with site censorship. Or blogs whose content they disapprove of.

anon again!
1. NO
2. YES
3. Stop ALL benefit payments, (with medical exceptions) (and these would have to be strictly controlled). Council House rents up. Council Tax down.
There should be no such thing as 'Unemployment Benefit', this would encourage everybody to take on work. There will be some who will say "you can't have a trained Doctor sweeping streets" (maybe a harsh decision, but why not?) You can't live without money, so get out and earn some.
Drug addicts should be hospitalised and forcibly induced to a cure. Drug dealers should have a pre determined prison sentence of 20 years- no court case neccessary.
These are just my views, and probably have no effect on reality.

There hasn't been "unemployment benefit" for years.

Well said Beverly Ann. I've been hassling my MP over the Digital Rights Economy Bill for a week. First I was told it wouldn't get past the Lords - it did. Then I was told that most of it would be dropped in the second reading - it wasn't. Then I was told that I'd got it all wrong and I should read the Digital Rights Report. I had and nowhere did it mention the most contentious parts of this odious bill. During all this my MP avoided ever saying which way they would vote and why! My vote will be going elsewhere this year.

??? Well now that's how to fly in the face of public opinion. Seeing as a I run a business in Kent and lose staff continually to the public sector who pay far more than I can as well as work far shorter hours, have more days off a year and get a pension I have to take a contradictory stance.
