MK Hits Turbulence Again

With my well-earned weekend break only interrupted by a knackered old jumbo skimming the roof at 11.30 last night, I'm f****ing fit and will be hitting the campaign snail trail again this week!

And speaking of Chas 'n' Dave Margate International Airport, the good news is that there'll be fewer cargo crates disturbing my beauty sleep in future. MK Airlines looks like it's thrown in the towel again, after weeks of rumours that it couldn't pay its staff and pilots. MK, famous for its Canadian and Nigerian crashes, first went into administration in 2008. Now Aircargo News reports that it has suspended all flights following its failure to secure sufficient funding to continue operations. Hurrah!

Thank Christ for that, I get uneasy at commercial ventures lasting any period of time in Thanet. It worries me that the income support operatives will become idle.

I have noticed that when I drive past Sandwich I can hear a humming noise. This of course has now ruined the whole area and I am going to campaign and oppose any plans that involve pfizers being able to continue to trade.

The 'knackered old jumbo' last night was in fact an Airbus at a mere 20 years old. Without MK you'll not get any more 'knackered old jumbos', a jumbo being a 747, though you may get newer, quieter, (Cargolux)747s and other types of 'knackered old xxxx' jets.

malaprop - fair point, well made. But I'll wager you don't live under the flight path.

Chas and Dave airport accounts show that it loses a fortune handling these flights. When do the owners question the viability of not only running at a loss but then having airlines that don't/can't pay?

Does this mean that TDC will be unable to recoup any possible fines that MK have incurred for flying at night? If TDC have bothered monitoring them that is.

When they invent a plane that only makes a hum, I'll be happy to have them over all night Mr Malaprop.

Until then, then can stick their illegal 11.30pm flights up their exhaust pipes.

No I don't think I am quite under the flightpath now. But then I did live for five years in Osterly directly underneath the Heathrow flightpath whilst concorde was still running. The noise bothered me for about a month and then I did not really notice it any more.

I get that the noise is annoying. But I also can't help but notice thanet is not exactly thriving. Millions is being pumped in to promote projects that don't come to fruition and are under attack from the off anyway. Every proposal for Dreamland has been received badly, the pleasurama site ideas were received badly, the turner and everything to do with the airport received badly. And lets not forget the detractors for the greenhouses and so on. In fact I struggle to think of any initiative that gets positive praise, in the meantime the shops close, buildings rot and the benefit queues increase.

ECR why not take a trip round town at 11.30 and witness the scenes after pub closures. That noise goes on for hours with the scallywags fighting, screaming at each other and throwing up. That any better than a 10 second noise from a jet passing over?

Have you sent your questions to all the candidates yet ECR?

Malaprop, if schemes were developed with the people rather than imposed on them the success rate and popularity may be greater.

Do not worry about the Pfizer's noise they will pull out of their own accord soon .
With twenty new universities built each year in China offering mainly science based courses why waste your time here.
The airport employs very few people and the pollution from the low flying aircraft coming over our town effects us all, but puts little back in to the economy.
If a train crashes it will happen on or near the rails, if a car crashes it happens on a road .Next time a knackered jumbo comes into land look up from your garden because thats where it will crash

Which three tdc representitives were at Luton airport today and what were they doing?

Malaprop, have you ever thought that all the great ideas thrust upon Thanet may actually all be shit?

Turner - let's spend £20m on a museum in one of the most deprived areas in the south east

dreamland - let's turn a successful amusement park inti houses, retail. Sod that, let's create a park full of discarded rides with a pile of firewood as it's centrepiece.

Thanet earth - idea good, building it on arable land not so good, especially when 2.7km of brownfield Tarmac exists up the road.

Anything our council has it's paw in is very badly thought out and the wrong idea

Wow 6.26 P.M. Good points made, I agree with you.

Instead of all the bitching and complaining, spare a thought for all the people out of work. Not so easy to find a good job at the moment. Yes, I did work for MK, and a fantastic bunch of people I worked with.

Malaprop versus Maladroit (Thanet) Ha ha ha.

One day hence the Turner Centre will suffer a fire followed by an insurance claim.

An outsider will be brought in so the usual local suspects can be at their masonic lodges establishing alibis as they dine with the Chief constable and Kenny Noye.

The arsonist is sought from the worshipful body of apprentice face pullers.

Good riddance to MK. As for the "fantastic" people who worked for them, I don't recall those "fantastic" people showing a shred of concern for all the residents of Ramsgate who they woke night after night with their anti-social behaviour.

I would also ask whether this wonderful company paid all of the fines which they incurred as a result of their activities. This money should have been collected from MK by the airport owners and paid into a community fund.

6.26pm, if turner was a museum it might be a better idea. Unfortunately, it's a gallery named after turner with no turners in it.

We may be presented with tracey's spunk covered bed, or Gilbert and George's turds, which I am sure will create thousands of jobs.

If the council are so eager to create jobs, why not build a prison or nuclear power plant at manston? We need energy , and Thanet has a ready made customer base for hm prisons.

malaprop said...

Well I take all the points. I am not defending the projects at all. I think the dreamland and turner proposals were ill thought out and largely pointless. Much better solutions could have been thought up. But nevertheless if they are going ahead I sincerely hope they succeed, create jobs and bring much needed revenue to thanet.

As to using brownfield for the greenhouses, I would imagine this was looked at. But how much extra finance would have been required to clear the sites first and to ensure that the area was toxin free for growing foods.

@8.31 What concern do you expect workers to show. Quite frankly when I am at work I do what I am told rather than thinking about the concern I should be showing for others. In much the same way I buy products made in china and india. We can't all be eco-warriors.

As to the fines, well what usually happens when a company ceases trading is it means it has run out of money, even by using the cheaper night flights. I can only imagine this means that the fines shall remain unpaid, unless of course they had already been paid into the community fund, in which case where is my share.

Malaprop with Thanet Earth you have to appreciate that nothing is grown in the soil there and the prime Thanet agricultural topsoil that has been farmed successfully for hundreds of years was just bulldozed out of the way. One local farmer I know described this as sacrilege so perhaps you may wish to consider the people behind Thanet Earth, notorious benefactors.

We should have no fear of toxicity of brownfield sites such as the airport. Thanet earth and southern water extract h20 from 'neath the runway.

I can't imagine how anyone can think the airport could ever be a viable venture. It is in the wrong place, airport revenues are falling and airlines going bust. Infratil, the owner of KIA, know this very well and is selling off its airports. Any of our money invested in the airport will be lost.
The turner Contemporary and the Dreamland Heritage Park are exciting projects. I'm even looking forward to the Emin lights going on.

Malaprop said...

My only worry is that the rides were removed for newer better ones in the donor parks. Will people travel to a heritage site? Nice swimming pool complexes, ice skating rinks etc are in short supply, they might have been better prospects or a new theme park.

is 9:08 AM being ironic?
If not, he/she might like to consider moving to Chernobyl - they have a nuclear power station , an airport and non of that arty nonsense.
Sellafield might also be suitable. The Nuclear plant provides loads jobs. 10,000 at the moment, to be soon reduced to 6000. The 4000 redundant workers can enjoy early retirement and Leukemia. Not sure if they have an airport, but no arty nonsense there either.

I'll be proud to live in a town with a gallery to rival Bilbao or St Ives.

Anonymous said...

In that case you'd better move to St Ives or Bilbao lol

There are artists and then there are Pissartists?

The Turnip centre is most definitely Pissart (not to be confused with Pissant but the two are closely related at 34 Million)!!!
