Gazunder Goes Gaga

Not so much 'Holy smoke!' as 'Holy sdffkjsd!' on page nine of today's Isle of Thanet Gazunder. With a number of pages suffering from a rather peculiar layout, and more gaps in the flannel panel than Margate seafront, it looks like the cracks are beginning to show following a recent exodus of hacks.

Come back Kathy, all is forgiven!

Maybe they've given the sub's job to your mate Mr Ceaucescu (no relation)!

And did you notice on the article about how well the library rebuild is going thay stated twice that it's in Cannon Road? I suppose if you write the article in Margate and use Google Maps to see an aerial photo without actually checking a single fact...

And most of the vertical lines that separate articles from adverts seemed to be missing. Not a good example of professional newspaper publishing...

Generally I like the ITG but this week it's gone pear shaped.

They seem to have confused Stanley Davenport Adshead with Edward Welby Pugin as well as locating the library in the wrong place it’s designed by the wrong man. I suspect the poor devils are in and out of meetings and trying to reach targets, with little time to write or do proper research and investigations.

Don't knock it til you've seen YourThanet. By the way, has anyone seen YourThanet?

They have also upset Ellington Girls, staff pupils and parents by not realising they have been in their new modern state of the art school since July and show a photograph of the old dilapidated premises; time to get some decent reporters!

How can the council say they are rebuilding the library when it's not going to have the museum and in fact it's just going to be a one stop benefits shop with a few books on the side? What kind of library will that be? Who's going to be able to immerse themselves in literature surrounded by unemployables and their screaming second generation unemployables? Whose bright idea was that?

Can the drivel be decoded? The issue of creeping round and nobbling smokers has been lost; has our Council and Police not got better things to do?

I've just about given up bothering with yourthanet - even less news, even more adverts, mostly for the online bits of yourthanet.

The only entertaining thing with all our papers is seeing how many timesthey can copy the same brief item from each other - they all carried the 'Daniel Craig visits the RNLI', but one left it a fortnight (maybe they confirm their sources by making sure it's in at least two other local papers!), and I'm sure another carried it two issues in a row...

Ahhh! Bless you! :-)

Bondie's on Wossie tonight. Let's see if he mentions his visit to Ramsgate!

It's not just the hacks that left. The new owners decided that production could be just as effectively run in Colchester rather than over at Lambert Towers in Wincheap.

...and my everything I wrote (letters pp12 & 13) has been duplicated!

And there's news where the letters should be.

AH Ha ! Anon 6.30pm is clearly a visitor from The Blog WE Dont Mention. Judging by his/her comments she/he hasnt understood what is happening, the one stop shop is going to be at MARGATE Library not Ramsgate, still never mind dont let the facts spoil a good snide comment !!
I expect the new Library will be no smoking as well so expect a heavy Police and Council presence at all times to ensure that the heinous crime of having a crafty fag is suitably punished, I mean why tackle the real problems when there is a nice soft target and they can get to their targets and go and park somewhere quiet, have a crafty fag and a little snooze.

And yes this weeks Gazunder was crappier than usual,,,,,,,,,

Think you may have a point there, Obsie! I thought the Thanet Lifers were too appalled by my blog to even contemplate landing on it. Evidently, though, there are still one or two dipping their toes in the water!

I occasionally pop over there and have a snipe, so maybe this is revenge!

Dickie, old chap, love dropping into your blog from Thanetlife for a wiitier take on life; nice to see you visit the Doc as well.

Not sure you can drag smoking in to this one - it's been a decade or two since smoking amongst inflammable books was encouraged - at least in the libraries I've worked in.

Observer 11-36 Anon 10-30 is right.I have heard that Ramsgate Library IS going to be a one stop shop just like it is in Margate. It is awful we have all been duped as to what is happening in our Libraries,i used to love to go to Margate Library and use their archives local history etc and now i am dreading what we shall all find when the doors open in January..Libraries are no places for Housing benifit issues etc it is such a shame...

Observer said...

ok,, so just where have you " heard that Ramsgate Library IS going to be a one stop shop just like it is in Margate "
in the pub perhaps, or the doctors surgery, or idle gossip at the bus stop.
Thanet is rife with rumors most of which turn out to be just that,,,,rumors, why does no-one bother to check the facts ? are are you all just Gazunder Journalists in waiting ?

Maybe anon 12-06 is right. When Margate Library was first being refurbished there was no mention of it being a one stop shop, but gradually the district took more and more of the building,so I will reserve judgement on Ramsgate and time will tell..

I an quoting from a document in front of me, published by TDC, entitled Corporate Plan 2007-11. Item 2 under Theme 6: Modern Council states:

Extend customer contact facilities across Thanet

(a) open the integrated library/one-stop-shop in central Margate

(b) extend Council services to Ramsgate (using new library to provide Council services)
.

So, not heard in a doctor's surgery or idle gossip at a bus stop, but the horse's proverbial!

Returning to the quality of the Gazette on Friday, I'm reliably informed that the new publishers were quite happy with the outcome of the Gazette, as it was the publication within their realm of local rags that showed the LEAST amount of errors last week.

Be entertaining to see what their worst quality was !
You'd need one of those spy code wheels you used to get free with comics to decode the headlines !

Well observer you seem to have gone quiet now about the libraries, was'nt idle gossip was it so you can get off your high horse and check YOUR facts Ah ha

Observer said...

Definitly a visitor from the Blog We Dont Mention,,why the need to make a snide unpleasant remark? you just cant help yourselves can you?
I would of course say that it is JUST A PLAN and we all know Thanet Councils past record on 'Plans' but as one of Simes supporters you would have to beleive that it is going to happen, the Turnip Con Trick will be finished before that and we all know that thats never going to happen dont we?

Oh yes. When your argument runs out of stream, trot out the old war horse TC.
That debate is so over.
It's coming.
Get over it.
