Bull Rushes

Holy Moses! I almost forgot to remind you that it's Thanet Night tonight on Channel 4!

It kicks off at 9pm with a repeat of the Time Team special on Pugin. That's followed by the premier of Margate blockbuster Exodus. With all the bad coverage the north side's been getting recently, this ripsnorter should help redress the balance. Michael Caine stars as the babe in the basket who's transported to the Arsonists' Playground, where he finds love (Angelina Jolie), and goes on to part the Thames Estuary and lead his chosen people to the promised land of Southend. On the way, several things burn down (natch), but it's OK because they talk to him! Unmissable!

You could always install 4OD (Channel 4 On Demand) which will let you watch the last 30 days free through your PC (assuming you've got a reasonable PC and broadband connection that can stand the excitement...).

I wouldn't bother. I must have got my wires crossed somewhere, not a shot of our Micky or Ange in sight!

It was a bit eccentric but I warmed to it as the film went on. I thought the allusions to Dreamland as a sort of land of decay and corruption and crime was a good allegorical dig at TDC - when you look at the site now it should be called "Nightmareland". I was there when they burnt the wooden man and it was quite impressive.

So what happened to the 'Exodus legacy' then?

It went back to London.

The film was far too long and got bogged down in a vain attempt to connect with the religious connection, nevertheless it was good for the area and a lot of local people were involved.

Hopefully more filmmakers will take advantage of the brilliant locations in Thanet and generate a bit more vitality in the area, god knows we need it. Apologies for the religious connection and going on a bit too long. Damn.
