Ladyboy's Thanet

Only in your super, soaraway Eastcliff Richard! Each week local politician Dr Steve Ladyboy shoots from the hip! Politically speaking, that is.

Unemployment in Thanet is more than seventeen times the average for the rest of Kent, around 128 per cent above the average for the south east and something like 9,000,000 per cent above the average for Britain as a whole. It is one of the most deprived districts in the developed world, with life expectancy significantly below 23.

But if you talk to some of these people campaigning against the China Gateway plans for Manston Business Park you would think that the place was overrun with job opportunities and that everyone lived to 100.

If we want to cut crime, see our high streets thrive, build new leisure facilities, cut crime, get people back into work and see our high streets thrive, we need to attract extra cash into our local economy. That's why I accepted a £25,000 political donation from that nice chap Ken Wills, whose company, CGP, will be building China Gateway and bringing Thanet all the votes I so desperately need.

That's enough politics - Ed.

What Steve, nice man that he is, is that he has lost some credibilty with certain of his supporters by his refusal to see anything negative in his support of CGP's scheme. The money from Wills was for the South Thanet labour Party and should never have been accepted when at the time it was known this massive scheme was imminent. He went to China last year but I don't know who paid for his trip.

The sad thing about Ladyman's article in the IOTG is that each and every word written has the 'taint' of devloper's money attached to it. I would respect his viewpoint if he had sent the money back, saying, the timing is inappropriate.
'Tainted' also applies to the likes of Ezekiel and Latchford in the acceptance of £12,500 sponsorship from GGP for TDC's The Big Event this summer. Such an unwise acceptance whilst a Planning Application is being examined in your own Council Offices, brings shame on us all in Thanet. Are we that cheaply 'bought' or influenced?

But is Ladyboy attending a Checksfield photo shoot ?

Come election time, the faithful will vote for anything that has the right coloured rosette on it, regardless of what they've been up to in the previous four years. All politicians know this and this is why they feel free to behave so badly. Real accountability equires the electorate to be extremely volatile. Can you dig it?

Westgate - Margate - Ramsgate - Watergate - Chinagate - it'll role off the back of your tongues before long, and you'll wonder why the council hasn't agreed to 3 more developments.

I have just lost my job along with 30 others, as my Electronic company at Westwood Business park is closing due to fanancial difficulties!!
oh well its only the sixth redundacy from a Thanet business in 5 years.

Thanet is a total disaster!

Stop whinging and move ?

Why should it be Thanet's fault that electronics companies fail there ?

Could it be the Thanet workforce ?

Anonymous said...

No, it's beacause the morons who run the Council still think that Westwood Cross is financially good for Thanet!

Any right thinking person ( councillors excepted! ) would see that multinational companies take the money OUT of Thanet back to their head offices! They employ their own support staff from outside the area, and we get sod all except some retail jobs!

Oh, and Dr ( Non-Medical ) Ladybird has of course 25000 reasons why he will do as he is told!

How many of the contractors working on these schemes are local? How many of the HGV drivers who'll be clogging our roads will be local? How many of the promised jobs at Thanet Earth will go to local? How many of the employees at China Gateway will be local?
I know we can't limit jobs to locals born and bred here but it seems that Dr. Ladyman is making the mistake of assuming the employees in their, alleged, thousands will be from here.

Why not concentrate your efforts on becoming employable instead of sitting on your idle Thanet backsides waiting for provision and blaming the Council, Ladyboy and anyone but yourselves.

There is no law that says you must sit on benefits in Thanet whilst harder working Poles are brought in to take work in other areas.

If you were a potential inward investor what would you make of the area from reading its blogs ?

"Won't move to find work. Like sitting on backsides moaning about the council. Council helps this no end by endless provision of sh-t to moan about. The area is full of tossers. Avoid employing them."

I am afraid that the blog sites mostly reflect the views of the brain damaged majority of the population of Thanet. ie The benifit system is to save us from going to work.

The rest of us want jobs and worked for cash, unlike Peter Wells, Bertie Biggles et al/

3.00pm, I must assume that as you used the term 'worked' then you are now either on the dole yourself, or are retired!

What therefore is your point?

I write on the blogs and have paid my NI contributions over many years. Have got a good degree from one of our oldest universities.

Worked in education for a goodly number of years trying to get Thanet schoolchidren to appreciate the benefits of education (and how to spell it, the word 'benefit, I mean)). Reached retirement age and feel justified in writing this. My husband worked from 17 years of age and still has a part-time job in his 60s. Both our sons were brought up to value education, the benefits of experience and have worked continuously since leaving university with good degrees, even doing rubbish jobs to support themselves when things didn't work out. I did shop-work and cleaning when I couldn't get a job in my subject. I'm not proud but accept I had to contribute to the family's finances.

We moved here for work, like many from the Midlands, Scotland and other parts of the UK.

Don't make assumptions without evidence.

Incidentally, why do you think Bertie Biggles doesn't/won't work? Unless you know more than the rest of us, od course, and that I do doubt!!!

Typo in the last bit. Should, of course, be 'of'not 'od'

The main thrust of this is TDC should be cultivating the local businesses not always looking for the big fish - seem to be repeating this ad finium - the small businesses will employ local people and should be encouraged, since when will the chinese offer loads of well paid jobs to locals when they can import all their own kind to work for below the minimum wage etc

The 500+ jobs for Chinese nationals that accompany Gateway Developments have to comply with UK law as will the visa applications. CGP failed of course, to make any mention of this to our Councillors whilst talking of job opportunities etc. They have on the other hand prepared a web-site for future 'Chinamex' employees and a "Welcome to Thanet" concierge document. CGP has even discussed with Roger Latchford how to house, integrate and make them feel at home with signs saying 'Welcome to Thanet Home of Chinese Globalisation' to be put up WHEN Planning Applications have been approved, not IF they are approved. You might well like to speculate where 500 odd homes for these 'Key' Chinese nationals and their families will be? Is this what Eurokent changes are all about? (see IOTG report this Friday)EKO Housing or could it be that Gateway Phase 3 will be ECO Housing ( a shareholder of CGP)?
Its the same old problem of our Councillors not being informed of the TRUTH about this whole project. Quite clearly, neither has '25,000 reasons to plug CGP' Ladyman!

Chinamex being a Chinese Governement department not familiar with UK rules and regulations may be surprised to learn their 500 or so 'key workers' need visas and work permits. How can they justify bringing in 500 workers to man a warehouse distribution centre? Are there no UK staff who could run the business? What happens if the UK government refuses work permits? Does the whole scheme falter? What happens to the housing earmarked for these essential employees? Deflate prices further due to a glut of housing on the market? Not a problem if you want to buy but not if selling is what you want to do.

There is today (September 9th) a new list of jobs that are considered in short supply in the UK so that non-EU workers can be brought inlegally. I don't see Chinese managers for a huge warehouse development on the list so what will the status be of the hundreds of Chinese nationals CGP and Chinamex plan to bring in to run the China Gateway site?
