Councillor Ken Calls For KM Boycott

As those of you who've been following the debate raging in the comments section of the post below will already know, Councillor Ken Gregory, Blue Rinser of this parish and Head Honcho of Planning, has called for a boycott of Kent Messenger Group publications following the redundancy plans they announced recently. KG writes:

A friend of mine is being made redundant after 27 years. The level of his redundancy is abysimal. I would urge you all to stop supporting any KM company.

Now, while any redundancies are clearly a very sad and traumatic affair for those concerned, should one of our elected finest really be calling for action that would undoubtedly put a further 500+ jobs in Kent on the line because one of his chums has got the bullet? I'm sure you've got an opinion!

Plenty of jobs will be going at the china gateway soon, so he'll have no trouble getting a job or will he?

Good grief! I've just re-read that last par and it's frightening how similar to the late, great, dearly departed, 'popular but beseiged™' Thanet Life I'm beginning to sound!

Time to open a vein methinks.

If Thatcherism had been pursued to its logical conclusion then there would be no such thing as redundancy compensation. It rewards people for failure which is not the way to run a market forces economy.

It seems that just as World capitalism has embraced socialism for a massive public funded handout so Ken is slowly returning to his socialist roots.

Beyond our Ken ?

Or simply put

How loud they squeal, who moralize to others, when they first feel a nip. Weaklings.

Get down the dole. Sign on. Retrain. Go self employed. Get out contracting. Stop whinging and adapt. If you got the backbone.

Perhaps this individual could use his considerable skill to establish a rival on-line news centre?

The trouble with 'Our Ken' is that he sometimes hits keys before engaging brain. I should imagine that too much 'Yes, Sandy', 'No Sandy', 'Three bags full Sandy' can induce such a state in a number of the TDC 'Mafia' and its not just 'Our Ken's' problem.

He should feel disgusted with himself. But as the person brought in to Chair the Chinagate project through, in order to satisfy his masters, this man has already shown that he has no shame.

I like the boycotting idea , so can you do it with a council ?.
I would like to boycott TDC on the grounds of them being useless so will stop paying my council tax , as I do not use any of their services other than rubbish removal which I could get done privately for less money .

Way to go Ken.

so purely out of interest what do you think your council tax pays for?

I already said the best thing we could do is boycott voting for the conservative mafia next time and some of us stand as independants for integrity that would show them.
We cant just let them take us all for puppets for another term and i think party politics is too stifling at local level we dont seem to get anything done, just one side opposes what the other does and inertia and decay in the meantime. any bloggers out there want to stand as independants for the good of Thanet because with a few exceptions no-one else seems to put the towns and its people first just themselves as councillors as the first beneficiaries as far as i can see?

I can understand Ken's reason for his one man boycott, but as I only listen to Radio 4 and read Tory Boy Weekly it won't make much difference to me :)

If it makes no difference to you, then why comment?

Is it the need to see your name in lights on the screen?

Anyway, it's Tory Boy Weekly this week, until you have another change in direction..!

I suggest readers on this strand have a look at Ken Gregory's idiotic and hypocritical comments on the previous strand!

And to think that this idiot is not only a Councillor, but head of Planning?

Still, as he stands by his mates, we can all see why he was re-appointed to Chair Planning to make sure that China gateway got nodded through for his paymasters!

Ken has been equally restrictive over on Village Voice! Go and look at 'Planning Again' of 17 Sep 2008 and see the gaps that have appeared. He seems to have taken down polite and balanced posts challenging the fatuous views expressed by 'I'll do anything to get onto TDC or KCC as a Tory or whoever will have me' Worrow. If he cannot host polite debate on his blog it might be an idea for him to admit that he isn't democratic at all like his political masters at TDC who even suggested a 'whip' (IOTG report 23 Aug) as they panicked when Gateway was deferred to Full Council. One can be forgiven for wondering perhaps that The Village Voice is that of its 'idiot'.

Ken Gregory should be sacked!

But as he was appointed by Sandy and co to make sure that China Gateway was nodded through, then he won't be..!

Note to Sandy, next time try and corrupt someone who knows what their doing! Gregory just isn't up to much as your about to find out..!

How come councillors get so uppity about a thing like JOURNO redundancies and yet when public assets are being sold off, countryside concreted over, library trashed, the silence is deafening?

While loyalty to a friend is laudable, trying to whip up a campaign against a major Kent employer is surely unwise in the current climate.
I think we should be generous and put his mis-spelt outburst down to tiredness or distress at his chum's small package.
I am sure that Cllr Gregory has now realised what a silly billy he was to take on so, and is penning a more considered response to what is very sad news for lots of KM staff members.
On the other hand, he is probably gaffer-taping his letterbox to ensure that the free Extra doesn't get in. That'll show them.

I find it worrying that a councillor who is in a trusted and high position within the council should make such ill considered remarks. If his brain didn't engage regarding this statement, can we rely on his decision making over other important issues.

No.

Oh come come, I'm sure Ken - like all his Tory associates - will bend over backwards for his chums.
