I take it all back. Sitting here in one of Soho's finest edit facilities, slaving over my latest directorial masterpiece (Smell The Profit for the Polish Cheese Board), I ordered my usual lunch of tricolore salad from Ed the runner. Afterwards I commented how tasty his toms were.
'They're from your part of the world,' he replied. And sure enough, he whipped out the above packet from the kitchen area. I must say, every bite was like a little burst of Thanet sunshine exploding in the old Eastcliff bouche! Never again will I moan about 'watery toms' and 'battery-farmed vegetables'.
Still, I did make sure Ed had washed them throughly before preparing lunch. After all, you never know who might have picked them!

I doubt the pickers were Islanders.
Surely they were! Wasn't Thanet Earth another of our beloved council's Great Job Creation Schemes??!
Richard it does occur to me that they may not be treating the irrigation water they pump from the aquifer which could give them quite a tang one way or another.
Spuh! Erg! Pah! Have just spat my tenth out!!!! Thanks Michael!
Whats going on, Tescos have run out of Peppers from Kent, I presume they come from Thanet.
Good point Peter. I'll get Ed to trot round to Berwick Street market next time and buy some marties of indeterminate origin.
Thanet turf stuff is pretty good, however what might leave a taste in the mouth are those who produce the product at a miserly minimum wage.
Perhaps the producers are on a financial shoe string. I hear that wages sometimes get cocked up as well.
If you notice there is an lot of the product on sale here in thanet, the peppers are very good, still the last cucumber I had seemed very dry not watery like others I have had.
In this week's Thanet Times there is an article about hiring Ghurkas to guard Thanet Earth - I'm sure they will do an admirable job but don't they all live in Folkestone or Shorncliffe, so hardly Islanders?
You guys still manage to moan when there is a good news story.
I agree with ECR I had some tomatoes from Thanet Earth and they were tasty. Picked on the minimum wage yes of course as the margins on such products are miniscule .
We cannot all wait to be become air traffic controllers or 747 pilots , there will plenty of those jobs when the air port really gets going.
Dickie, old chap, I copy this from the depths of an item from February that was just posted on Strife:

I think Anon puts the 500 promised jobs in perspective quite nicely.
Never touch anything that's sold as fresh around Berwick St.
I lost an employee to the fresh crabs 7 yrs ago.
(Third floor near the fabric shop if you're....)
Interested?
I'd hardly think so.
