Council Cops One In The Eye

Cripes! I see our beloved council gets top billing in the Rotten Boroughs section of this week's Private Eye! Under the snappy headline 'Hao Do You Do?', the Eye delves into the contents of that Tesco bag of CGP documents at some length, noting that they seem to indicate last November's council 'fact-finding' trip to China was paid for by the developer, rather than the Chinese as stated for public consumption. The piece concludes:

It is surely coincidence that CGP (the China Gateway developer), which wants the council to erect signs on its borders saying 'Welcome to Thanet - Home of Chinese Globalisation', has dropped its plans to drain foul water into cesspits since these documents came to light, and has declared itself after all in favour of the Environment Agency's recommendation that it spend £600,000 on mains sewers to prevent contamination of drinking water. Even stranger, Thanet's planning committee mislaid its customary rubber stamp last month and narrowly voted to defer the decision to a full meeting of the council later this year.

I'd link to the item, but that Ian Hislop chap doesn't publish Rotten Boroughs online, meaning you have to go and cough up your £1.50 (like I did in Waitrose). Kuh! As if he wasn't already made of money!

Product placement?

Flat fee or commision?

And when was the last time any national publication paid any attention to anything you wrote on your blog Tony? Huh!

I suspect 9:33am that it is more a case of ECR writes for Private Eye.

Or that Private Eye, Nimby Services, writes for ECR

Too right we need China Gateway for the jobs.

Yes anon 12.50

The environmental concerns merit attention but if they are solved then what is the problem ? Michael Child is the leader of that argument and well done to him.

I heard Jonathan Aitken refer to "Doing bird" as "Doing his "Richard"" (Richard the Third)

I wonder if it is ECR's choice of blog name ?

That he sees himself as an aesthete suffering Ramsgate incarceration amongst litter bugs and owners of pit bulls and overflying crock aircraft.

I wonder if in reality he blogs to thoise he really despises.

More lucid comment there from the man in the third row with the Camberwell carrot and six pack of Super Brew!

The contents of these Tesco bags seem to be getting around a bit. Will they qualify for air miles when they get to Chinamex?

If the story is true (presumably it can be proved) we should be expecting the Councillors involved to resign with immediate effect.

Here here, but they don't have intregity and they aren't even in the country! doesn't look as if Chris Wells can take the strain of straight KCC so he won't be any good with his co blue rinsers so it looks as if it might be over to the Roc Doc and the youngsters?

Now also been out and bought my own copy too! If the handwritten note to Richard Samuels was ever sent to him sounds like the Chief exec should be resigning too?
Wonder why the whole matter isn't being called in for investigation or meeting in October postponed, it all looks very improper.
Wonder what our MP's spin on it is - does he know what is going on in his own patch or has he run scared and said in his usual style TDC business is local not national politics?
Think we need some answers ...
Perhaps sailing away into the murky sunset on a "mudded" yacht will be the answer?

Mrs Me would be more interested to know whether there are any receipts in that tesco bag with unclaimed points if so she could get them added to her clubcard

Hadn't thought of that Tony, will go and take at look at my set of papers now. Wait out.......

Damn! All I've got is something in English and Chinese welcoming Chinese Staff to Thanet and something about ECO-Housing and homes for them at Eurokent wherever that is.

A done deal? Not IF but WHEN at Manston?
He forgets to mention that Wigan is behind schedule and Wigan Council has been criticised by Auditors for its handling of Westwood in Wigan and CGP. He also fails to mention here about the 'loss' caused by writing down property values at Dover and Farthingloe. Their land purchases at Manston were more than 'doubled' in value in late 2007 on the expectation of Planning consent! What development at Manston? The last time I looked the only thing going up was a storage barn for grain?
=================================

CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT
The Company has continued to make strong progress during the period under review. Our development at Manston and proposed development at Wigan remain on schedule. We expect to receive a resolution to grant planning consent in the near future for Phase One of the Manston project. Once this is received we will be able to further progress the planning documentation for the next two phases of this development.

Isn't all what you've quoted akin to making a false statement or is it just known as 'business'?

Sounds iffy to me as it would seem to imply CGP think it's a 'done deal'.

If one has the time and inclination to read through all of CGP's AIM listing one would observe lots items that require further scrutiny - and yes its a done deal when you read it, as the current application is for all of the phases...why one of the Planning Officers at TDC admit same in the AIM document...i mean it must be right as the AIM document states this, it does after all mention a phase 3?

Further comments on the AIM document should be written on the back of fag packet and sent to cloud cuckoo land care of TDC.

A deafening silence from many on this item, ECR! Too stunned perhaps from reading 'Eye'? Went and bought my copy this morning and absolutely horrified. If there is substance to this story and IOTG seemed to have reported it first in early August, then what are TDC's Councillors to do about it?

Can someone tell me please how the "environmental concerns" of a thousand lorries a day can be addressed?

By counselling them so that they do not feel too guilty about disturbing the lives of residents; shaking the foundations of houses and polluting the air with disel particulates?
