Ferrygate - Separated At Birth?

Reader Samantha writes:

Has anyone else noticed the striking similarity between the £3m Thanet Council was hoping to get for the freehold of the Pleasurama eyesore in Ramsgate, and the £3.3m it has lost in the Ferrygate debacle? Talk about funny money!

Haha! Well, Samantha, if you are saying that the council's book-cooker woke up on Monday morning this week, saw that the three million sovs would be unforthcoming from the 'developers' of the Pleasurama site, and realised that, as the £3.3m ferry hole it was intended to fill would therefore remain unplugged she had better fess up, you may have a point.

I'll get my accountant Cyril on it straight away!

So tell me somebody how TDC are going to finance their share of purchasing and developing Dreamland?

Good question MoK.

Also, how crap must TDC's accounts be if they can suddenly 'find' the £3.3m owed by TEF? Their abacus must be in a pretty sorry state!

And whatever happened to East Kent Opportunites? Wasn't that another black hole our money disappeared into?

Next time my council tax bill arrives, I'll be sorely tempted to take the money out of the bank in cash and stuff it straight down the drain. That way I'll be cutting out the middle man!

TDC share of the ECO spine road was £2,184,000,I believe payable to KCC this year.

Apparently TDC didn't put Ramsgate in for a Blue Flag this year either. I'm beginning to think us millionaires should declare UDI!

The net scandal will be Infratil's tax breaks when Manston collapses. I'll bet they haven't paid a penny.

MOK

In answer to your first.

Parking fines campaign.

ECR if you swear in as a Special constable you will get a reduction in your council tax bill courtesy of the PCC Ann Barnes whose abacus also needs a drop of WD 40.

John Hamilton will be along shortly to blame Cllr Driver.

Let Kent County Council have administrative control of Thanet Council

Being a "Special" and sorting out King St of a Saturday nignt, you would need a reduction in your hospital bill as well as your council tax bill.

Judith Haine has taken the words out of my mouth. The executive of TDC is not fit for purpose, has a corrupt culture, and brings no special qualities to the area. Their replacement by central management would avoid their financial incompetence, and constant restructuring with massive payoffs and lucrative appointments for friends and sacking of opponents cooked up by the directors to line their own pockets. This happens so often it is no surprise they don't know what they're doing. If they can all rotate jobs and be replaced and restructured every five minutes, why not replace them altogether by central administration from KCC and cut the council tax and on street parking charges, well said. Let businessmen run the businesses and risk their own capital, not council clerks masquerading as entrepreneurs. Lord knows where the financial oversight is, with what has been referred to elsewhere as the section 151 officer clearly not functioning according to the law, and the audit commission is being done away with. The other executives are covering for each other and even their Overview and Scrutiny Councillor is being told crap by the Executive Mr Seed. If it cannot be controlled properly it would be better to get rid of it and have the day to day services that is all 99% of us need run from a central point such as KCC, why duplicate systems anyway.

Sorry Ms Haine forgot to declare my only disparity is I dread to think what the qualities of an Amstrad pay and display machine might be.

Judith I apologise for having said this before, but what we need is a Unitary Authority. TDC definitely needs to be abolished, but the County Authority doesn't have all the systems needed to deal with what TDC are supposed to. The gains would be massive and take out the petty minded politicians and the useless officers.
