Of no interest to hairy Sir Bob, of course, but the question of where to get the old Eastcliff barnet trimmed has yet again raised its ugly, hirsute head.
Regular readers will know that I've consistently eschewed Sweeney Todd's, next to the pie shop down the road, and initially frequented Jamie, the Harbour Barber in Margate's old town. But he packed up some time ago. More recently I discovered New Image in Ramsgate High Street, just up from the NatWest. Run by a couple of enterprising Turkish lads who relocated from Norf Lundun, they offered cut throat shaves, singeing, threading, pattern design work and all the, er, trimmings. But now they appear to have given it the chop and re-relocated back to Norf Lundun.
I guess with all this talk of credit being crunched and assets squeezed, we're likely to find our high street options ever more limited here on Kent's Ramsgate Peninsula. What with Woolies pointing its nipples skywards, the Currys/PC World/Dixons lot reporting losses, and Wilkinsons looking to shed jobs, it won't be long before there are more 'To Let' signs than shop fronts. I hear even the Build Center over at Westwood Chaos has upped sticks and scarpered.
Still, there are some optimistic souls who are starting new ventures, even in this chilly economic climate. There's a new 'girly' shop, for example, on the Margate harbour arm, and 'Mr Ferrari' is opening another branch of his successful Ramsgate caff Rokko in Margate. In fact there seem to be almost as many places opening in the Arsonists' Playground as there are closing. Perhaps with all the fires, the climate's not so chilly over there after all!

No contest! Peter in the Plains of Waterloo reasonable price good cut and wash and all the gossip
Barry the Barber in Cliftonville's Northdown Road is very good - right opposite the Inland Revenue office if you don't mind venturing close to enemy territory and only a close shave awy from the Labour party office too!
Did I tell you about the time I pissed through the letterbox of the Labour Party office when I was staggering home from Yates's one night?
Those were the days!
And they said blogging was the lowest form of political comment!
If Mr Ferrari is the man I think he is, then anybody asked to fit out his new establishment should beware. One of the guys who worked on his Ramsgate seafront emporium had to resort to legal action to get his money.
You'll just have to slum it in Boredstares. We've got nearly as many hairdressers & barbers as restaurants. I'd recomend a long back and sides chez Malcoms!
Think you may find Build Center relocating - watch for more road works.
Birchington, two excellent places for barnet control.
Thanks for all the tips and highlights! Before relocating to the Ile de Thanet I used to frequent Charles Worthington in the smoke, but now that I'm a much more, er, modest millionaire I can't really justify close on 100 smackers for a trim, so Peter, Boredstares or Cliftonville it is!
What about a haircut in your own home? Tim is fab - freelance hairdresser to celebs (suits you, ECR) who has moved from London to Broadstairs. Am I allowed to give out his number on a blog?
More of a Trumpers of Mayfair man myself old boy!
Peter is very reasonable, and my regular. But mines just a grade 4 so if you need a proper coiffure i can't really comment.
Nige
Just to refer back to Mr Ferrari of Ramsgate. I've got the wrong man - it was a neighbouring newly established restaurant that was tardy in paying its bills, I have just learned. Sorry Mr Ferrari for any embarrassment.
Hmmm. I'd be interested in Tim, 5:40. As a celeb, I find it much more convenient to be attended to at home wherever possible. It avoids the inevitable pack of snappers, you see.
Maybe you could email me his number (address is in the top right hand corner). Or I don't mind you popping his number here on the comments if you like.
What a ..(YAWN).. interesting thread.
