Everyone Loves Ramsgate!

One of the things I'm missing here in France is the English papers. But earlier today I managed to catch sight of yesterday's London Evening Standard et voila! A huge item about Ramsgate!

Headlined 'Kent Gets Closer To London', the paper swoons on about fast train links, Ramsgate becoming a 'super commuter hub', and top notch restaurants like Harveys Fish Market and Age & Sons, all tipped 'to transform sleepy, left behind Ramsgate into the next Brighton.' Hmmm, not sure I quite believe that particular hype, or endorse the description of our town as a 'left behind' (does that make Margate the right?) But a nice little puff for the Ms' P nonetheless.

And speaking of Thanet's premier restaurant in Thanet's premier town, I notice the aforementioned Age & Sons is up for a gong in the Kent Restaurant Awards. It's nominated in both the Best English Restaurant category and the Best Cafe category, where it's currently in poll position ahead of Boredstares' Oscar Road Cafe. So why not scuttle along now and place your 'X' for Age in both categories? Go on, you know it makes sense. As somebody once said in some advertising thing. Er, was it Jimmy Savile?

I see that some of those who make out that they care about Ramsgate are now trying to stop the high speed train as well the airport...

This article will be available on the ERA website shortly

Oh dear Peter! You mean you haven't realised that SH1T is just some pointless pro-airport nutter in disguise? Tsk tsk. All that, er, work on those photos must be making you blind!

It's the chemicals ECR (the silver in ver darkroom plays havoc wiv da 'oh, I geddit' part of the brain that normally sniffs out a pisstake from a hundred yards)

But I like Ramsgate being a sleepy (backwards) little town :'(

I say backwards referring of course to most of the youth that live here...

Would that be the Oscar Road Café that's only open from Thursday to Sunday from 10.30 to 2p.m? Not exactly the most user-friendly place when you can't get a cuppa before then or could it be the owner is herself a food journalist?

Harvey's where you eat at home before you go due to the minuscule portions. I'm not a big eater myself but like value for money and I know I'm not the only person who has said I'm not going back due to the prices and small portions dished up.

'Pretentious' is the best adjective for Harvey's and its website says the venue is aiming itself at the Londoners weekending in the area. Well, it's quite pricey even by London prices.

Digital watch?! That's slander!

These pesky incomers, bringing prosperity to the town. They should shut up about wanting to turn Ramsgate into some sort of nice place and go back where they came from.

The airport was here long before Ramsgate became somewhere nice to live. If you want some sleep and an education for your kids go back to where you came from!

That's wonderful. I went to Age and Sons and had a fantastic meal, with lovely service. I hope they do well.

but if you care about Ramsgate you want the airport closed, they fly right over my house sometimes and they're ok now but any more of them would drive me insane

see letters from holiday home owners threatening to sell up if there are night flights.
ECR wheres the news front page of Gazette about the 3 suspended does it really mean that someone has at last done some exposing (and this time it isnt Peter Checksfield?)

But I should point out that others have indeed recommended the food at the, er, Belagian Bar which is why it's in my 'Recommended Nosheries' in the side bar on the right.

As for exposing, it would indeed appear that some exposing has been done, but I'm as in the dark as you 9:25 as to the whys and wherefores. Something to do with an audit report and irregularities in contract procedures, one surmises from the bits and bobs one picks up around the internet.

I think they were suspended for not cutting Sandy and Rodge in on the action.

I'm really confused about this ferry thing but lets just hope it happens. It will be brilliant for Ramsgate and so will the high speed train. Although I agree about Ramsgate being the next Brighton-get real.

As for Age's I had an "OK" meal with some girlfriends but wouldn't rush back. Now been twice to the harveys fish restaurant and that gets my vote. Portions were fine when we went and it was under 80 quid for four of us at lunchtime.
