Ramsgate For A Tenner!

Hurrah! At last the iniquity of hipsters from the smog paying only a tenner for a trip to Margate, whilst being charged full whack to enjoy the delights of the sunnier south side of the Ile de Thanet, has been ended by Southeastern Trains!

So if any of you groovy Hoxtonites are planning to spend the upcoming bank holiday weekend in the Millionaires' Playground, you'll now have enough change left to buy a decent lunch at one of our fine dining destinations, and still have some left over for a deposit on a house! Plus you can experience the delights of being whizzed down here in just over an hour from St Pancras, in the heart of North Londonshire, on the superduper high speed trains!

Boredstares has also been included in the bank holiday bonanza, but frankly most of the shops there are boarded up these days, so best give that a miss. And quite why us Thanetians still have to pay the best part of a bullseye for the privilege of quick escape out of here is beyond me.

Update: What Southeastern don't tell you, of course, is that you can only buy a day return for a tenner. And the offer is only valid until the 26th of May. Kuh!

Click here for more details of Southeastern £10 tickets.

Similar schemes used to be available in London to travel to Cornwall. The wise Cornish poor paid Londoners to post the return ticket to benefit from the inequitous special rates. Back to the Future.

Excellent news but why are we finding out about it here and the day before the bank holiday. If tdc and rtc can't promote the area better they should be sacked

Ramsgate for a tenner?

I remember a time when that would buy you 10 knackered old airports ;-)

Harveys payoff a tenner?

Does it include free Dream land entry as well? Those were the days.

ECR, I've got a beard, I live in East London, and I'm coming to Ramgate this weekend.

Where would a trendy young dude like myself best fit in if I wanted to eat, drink and party ( not necessarily all at the same time)?

It's rare to see an old man stroking pussy, and it it is the weekend - so could you reprint that photo of Roger Gale with his moggy?

3:46 -- Hackney?

Council vote of no confidence in McGonigla next week which is good news. At last we could be rid of her.

3.46 - Caboose is great for a bite to eat and does tasty cocktails. Royal Harbour Brasserie for great views at the end of the harbour. La Magnolia for Italian food (not trendy but absolutely delicious). And definitely The Queen Charlotte for drinks and music. Ramsgate Music Hall for live music.

FROM A BLUE-CHIP SOURCE IN THE CITY EARLIER THIS EVENING:

NO DEAL.

Dear Shoredich Hipster.

A great point! Where does one go for a "good time" in Ramalam? Eating - lots of brilliant places and it all depends on what you want. Petes for Fish and Chips. The green strip for posh food. Party? Depends what you want. Start on the seafront. Talk to locals. There is always a beach party of two going on if you know about them. Primarily, stick to the seafront. Or come over to Broadstairs.

Is a blue-chip a Conservative potato?

This £10 offer will be a godsend for all those DFL's comming for job interviews at TDC.

Anonymous said...

No deal on what? The tickets for a tenner? What do you mean?

Anonymous said...

Or for TIBs looking for airport jobs at Gatwick...

He does not know 11:44, in fact he never actually knows anything these days.

Richard Eastcliff said...

Well, considering we don't actually know who 'he' is, none of us could really say, could we?

Saw a tea-towel in Broadstairs this afternoon, giving a run down of up to date Cockney rhyming slang. I believe the title of this piece should be Ramsgate for an Ayrton.

I'm a bit bemused. Michael Child's blog is inundated by named contributors demanding that the anonymous comments be blocked. I can see their point because the anonymous comments on Michael's blog are utter cr*p. Lots of petty bickering and name-calling. Yet ECR allows anonymous comments and, by and large, people stick to the topic and play the ball. I'm just wondering if the named contributors on Michael's site are also posting anonymously to try to dupe Michael into banning anonymous comments.

It's you 10:49, just before your cocoa. What a wicked plot you have uncovered by all those nasty people out to get poor old anons like you banned. What a sad day that would be.

Why is the p601 ryl van parked on the promenade

Anonymous said...

Anon,

Wow Sherlock that's spot on. They are all out to get you. Bear in mind that even paranoics have enenies.

Richard Eastcliff said...

You keep asking that, 4.02pm, as if any of us have a clue? Perhaps you would be better off reporting it to the rozzers.

Anonymous said...

News just in: Roger Gale MP confirms to @bbcsoutheast that formal offer made to buy airport. Will have latest from owners shortly.

Anonymous said...

Can you park on the promenade or not though?

Anonymous said...

Yes I can 6:08!

Anonymous said...

They'll struggle with it being on the water supply. ..

Anonymous said...

The owners will not be saying anything publicly.

Have you noticed that Charles Buchanan has been absent from all the save Manston discussions? That's because the person paying his wages is not interested in saving Manston.

The big question I have is what is gale, carter etc going to use as the saviour of East Kent when manston is a housing estate?

Anonymous said...

They may have an offer but with the amount of tax payers money involved i doubt that people will be amused! There is also another thumping great problem the owner does not have to sell -and why would they sell an asset for peanuts, when it can be parcelled up for more.

Gale, KCC and TDC cannot prevent any other thing happening at Manston, in Jedi speak who is the more foolish the fool or the fool following him?

Anonymous said...

The most foolish are those that (mis)quote from Star Wars!

Anonymous said...

One offer was rejected previously said Gale. This offer could be pointless too. However the view that the site will or must be housing is nonsense. As is the view that TDC can't prevent both housing or an airport.

Anonymous said...

After a bit of totting up I can see Manston's site being worth a good £140,000,000. If its 700 acres, with half acre plots they have got to be worth £100,000 each . She would be a mug to accept any less. If it were mine I would apply for planning and blow to all of the people who said I cant build on it. What's stopping me? I cant see anybody at TDC interfering with my planning application. LOL

I did love the aviation correspondences view on BBC South this morning, his closing statement on Manston,s empty space was priceless, as is the eye watering Tax payers bill to support the bid.

I do wish both MP,s would come clean how much this is going to cost in real terms and how the Government is aiming to subvert planning law?

Fools and Fools who follow is just about right misquoted or not.

Anonymous said...

What has been given by the tax payer to keep 150 jobs?
I cant beleave the tax payer has to foot the bill again to appease 300 people while keeping 40,000 peoples town down F**king outrageous!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Save Manston are now offering free dinners to get their Facebook numbers up. Bread and circuses the people of Thanet bought for a meal at a crappy restaurant they deserve the sh#t they live in.

Anonymous said...

So sad for you, Anon, as another of your dreams crumbles. See in comes the language as your ire mounts, least one hopes it is your ire and not anything less palatable.

Anonymous said...

I think you're mistaken 11:42. The free meals aren't at The Surin.

Anonymous said...

fuxache

It's out in the press and twitter, offer rejected ! Shame would be great to have an airport instead of London over spill houses........

Anonymous said...

Sir Roger Gale strikes again. If he's not asking questions in parliament on behalf of vat fraudsters, he's backing a bidder with no credibility.

Who knighted this buffoon?

Anonymous said...

5.04pm, us london hipsters would only been seen in cliftonville dahling, not some executive home on a new housing estate. We'll leave that to the wags from Birchington.

Manston offer rejected from announcement by Gale on Sunday. ...but rejected on Friday. And because Gloag says it involved previous buyers who were not credible.

So either Gale was a liability or it was simply the previous investors rejected a second time. Gale seems to be less than open and has helped destroy Manston.

Doubt it will contnue past this week: no planes.

I don't think they still understand. This statement doesn't make sense.

Joint Statement By Sir Roger Gale MP and Laura Sandys MP
“The statement released by the current owners of Manston Airport today is very saddening indeed.
“We know that there is ongoing and serious interest in the acquisition of Manston as a working airport and we hope that even at this late stage the current owners may be persuaded to reconsider and negotiate.
“Our first thought has always been for the employees of Manston, many of whom have families to support. Their wellbeing is of the upmost concern, and we will be making ourselves available for anyone who would like to meet us and discuss their concerns and options.
“Our second priority has been to establish the viability of Manston as an operating airport in the local and national interest. We are convinced that, given more time, real progress could have been made and it is thus hugely disappointing that the decision has been taken to close it. The both of us have always said that had we known about the owners’ intentions months ago, a plan could have been put in place well in advance and this continuing uncertainty could have been avoided.
“We wish to pay tribute to the local community who have been so vital in keeping the momentum around the airport going, and urge local people to keep faith that a positive solution for Manston will be found. We will absolutely not accept second best and will fight together in the coming weeks to make sure the interests of the people of Thanet are protected.”
