Back To The Future?

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed a recent trend towards blasting on the past when it comes to the future of the Millionaires' Playground?

For example, the excellent Ramsgate Music Hall has recently opened. Its Victorian branding and moniker resonate more of unicycling Basset Hounds and plate spinning contortionists than the groovy sounds that are actually emanating from the place.

Then there's Albion House, rapidly being transformed into a boutique hotel which will very much draw from the heritage of the place. I hear rumour that there'll even be a King and Country Bar!

And now we have the imminent arrival of The Empire Room, a splendid looking restaurant addition to The Royal Harbour Hotel, over on the west side of town. Click on the pic above to visit their website.

I dunno. I guess with all the magnificent Victorian architecture around Ramsgate, and perhaps with a little sprinkling of the WW1 Centenary this year, nostalgia is rapidly getting back to what it used to be! Which is why, once the previous bodgers have been swept away from the Pleasurama Eyesore next month, I'll be putting in my bid to build a Barnum and Bailey style freak show on the site. After all, there's certainly no shortage of exhibits in these parts - bearded ladies, man-monkeys, cigar-smoking five year olds, skeleton women, elephant women, women who bang six inch nails into wood with their foreheads.... the possibilities are endless. Who knows, with my plan for a tattooed chav enclosure, I might even get public funding!

Mr E Even I am going back to the future calling for a return to the old committee system fro running Thanet Council. The leader cabinet model we have now in undemocratic and unaccountable - too much power in too few hands. Watch my blog for an article on this

What do you call a chav in a box? (and by that I don't mean one of those cake decoration shelters)

A: Innit

Please don't use the term "chav". I'm part Romany, although everso respectable now. Chav or chavvy is a term of affection for a young male Romany child. You wouldn't use kike or nigger so please, don't call people chavs.

I saw a fella only the other day walking down the street, he must of been in his twenties. Well he was dressed very Edwardian in his ankle high socks and knee length bulged trousers and he was only puffing on a pipe underneath his jaw line bushy beard. Most unusual sight but also quite soothing, if you know what I mean. Just thought I would add my observation.

KCC Conservatives and UKIP both agree council tax should increase to pay for KCC. Who voted for that?

I think Ian Driver is doing exactly the right thing by proposing that the council abandons the cabinet system. Since this system was introduced, TDC has descended into a farce, culminating in the disgraceful episode where a tiny group of councillors made a conscious decision NOT to collect millions of pounds in harbour fees, and then decided to keep it secret from the elected councillors.

It may well be that a return to the old committee system isn't the best thing to do but, it's as clear as the nose on your face that cabinet government isn't working. We need a serious debate about how best to organise the council and, paramount in this debate should be how to engage the public and inform them about the decisions which are being made in my name.

It is my perception that neither main political party wants to have this debate because they like a system whereby, once elected, they can do what they want and don't have to worry about whether it's in the interests of the people they purport to represent.

People may not like Driver, but TDC is a failed council and nobody else is suggesting any changes?
