Twot

Flamin' Nora! It's way too sticky to be crafting my usual finely-honed prose! So here's a link to the Isle of Thanet Gazunder website. It's all there, you won't even have to cough up 70p. The only downside is that you can't line the cat's litter tray with your laptop once you've read it.

Right, I'm off for a cooler. You lot can talk amongst yourselves - you seem to be quite good at that!

Take a look at yesterday's KCC Council Meeting where local councillors can be seen and heard talking on topics such as increasing their car allowances by 50% and Will Scobie trying to save Margate post office.
It very easy to navigate but Cllr Scobie is 4hrs 35 mins in.

Gazette quite boring this week and simply Buchanan's mouthpiece on Manston.

The "Quit you are ruining the town" was a good headline last week for TDC though.

The Duffers linger like a bad smell though.

The Gazette's been rubbish ever since that bimbo started editing it. Bring back MP. At least he was a journalist.

Anonymous said...

and the Council's been rubbish since that other bimbo started running it.

Anonymous said...

And the local blogs have been rubbish since that other bimbo left! Where's Lucy?

Lucy who?

In recent weeks Thanet premier blog shew some video history from 20 years ago.

No one complained the material was too old and out of date.

The video was of a news broadcast in which TDC leader faced the cameras rather miffed at his then recent arrest by the Fraud Squad investigating TDC.

Them Blogger Michael got rather shirty that a twenty year old video had raised interest. Its implications for today. He blogged it but apparently his readership was supposed to ignore it. And Blogger Michael gave free rein to the JH mob on his threads to bully down any interest the video had roused.

Moving on though had a nice swim in the sea this evening. Then a pint with er indoors at the beach side where a group of African chaps were drining and singing their music and doing Zule dances on the beach. Flipping brilliant.

Anonymous said...

Louise Oldfield's "Margate Architecture" blog hosted those old TDC videos first - then promptly deleted them just hours later. Anyone know why?

Anonymous said...

I doubt it.

Have any of the councillors or civil servants quit yet? They're not hoping to drag out their paychecks until the 2015 elections are they?

And I see Latchford at KCC is recommending a council tax increase to offset reform of KCC(!). Does anyone remember that in their manifesto?

Did anything happen on whether there's fire cover at Manston after 5pm? Presumably there's no cover on a weekend either? A large plane landing in the dark off-route yesterday.

Who are the firemen?

Anonymous said...

For the umpteenth and last time, 11:03, there is fire cover at Manston for all passenger and cargo flight landings and take offs. I know, I work there.

Anonymous said...

We've not heard from you before 1:24 - what do you do there? Wasn't fire cover suspended after 5pm? But there is cover 24hours/7days?

Anonymous said...

There is cover by two watches as required to Category 9, cargo and wide bodied passenger aircraft, for all air movements. Look it up on google for yourself.

Personally I think you are just scaremongering and trying to make out there is no cover for aircraft arriving and departing.

As for not hearing from me before, how would you know? As to what do I do, how about what do you do first before I start expanding on my CV to a total stranger.

Anonymous said...

You said you'd posted umpteen times on this but clearly haven't.

What the website says is very different from the actuality - what's Category 9?

You said you work at Manston so what do you do? And I asked how you know there is 24/7 fire cover.

It was cancelled after 5pm and I'd be surprised if there's cover at 10pm on a Sunday?

You don't seem to work there and only know what your read on Manston's website?

Anonymous said...

Utter nonsense you spout, 2:42, for I have several times on a few blogs responded to your allegation of no cover after 5 pm. There are strict rules that apply to the requirements for cover for air movements and those are met at Manston.

As to my reference to google, I was trying to be helpful, for on the Manston Fire Service site you will find the names and experience of the firemen making up the two watches, an explanation of the category of cover, the equipment they have and full details about the fire service there. There is even a facility to ask questions if you really want to know answers.

What I do has no more relevance to this debate than what you do.

Anonymous said...

Ah, so you don't work there and did just read it off the website.

I've only posted about Manston fire cover here. Why you're posting on several sites about it anonymously when you know nothing is down to you.

I think you'll find fire cover was cancelled after 5pm by Infratil. I doubt it was ever in place over a weekend.

Allan Mallinson said...

It was certainly in place at a weekend for the air show because I was there.

Interested how you dismiss someone as not working at Manston simply because they will not tell you exactly what they do. What have you ever told us about yourself and, in support of Anon 2:59. I have seen you claim there is no fire cover after 5 pm on more than one occasion and not just on this item.

Indeed, if this was a new claim of yours, why did you start off with the question "Did anything happen on whether there is fire cover at Manston after 5pm" to which the answer is, yes if there are air movements.

Anonymous said...

You don't know Mallinson, you're just an armchair general waffling on about fire cover if that's not a mixed metaphor.

You're the twit that tells us there is no corruption at TDC.

But go on amuse us with your knowledge - apart from the Airshow is there fire cover? For example last night's overflights? And how do you know.

Allan Mallinson said...

Since you as always resort to name calling, Anon 6:17 pm, you find out for yourself. I am sure most people reading this blog will be well aware that any airport operating in the UK has to have proper fire cover for air movements to and from that airport.

You are simply mischief making with these allegations as a change from your usual pollution claims.

Allan Mallinson said...

In case anyone is concerned about these claims by an anonymous contributor that there is inadequate fire cover at Manston, just check out http://www.kiafire.org.uk/

This website will give you full details of the fire service at Manston airport right down to the names of the fire crews, their experience and their equipment.

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately not Allan: fire cover has been removed after 5pm and presumably is not available at the weekend.

Simply quoting the website provides no confirmation you're slavish devotion to Manston is rather pathetic.

Let's hear from the firecrews themselves: you know nothing.

Next you'll be telling us there is pollution monitoring because Buchanan says so.

Are the Duffers still clinging on or are some of them quitting? We shouldn't pay them until 2015 should we?

The KLM flights seem to have changed: takeoffs at 0630 and 1040 and a landing at 0940.

Do they not have the 2040 landing in the evening now?

What use is 3 flights within a few hours each morning? Anyone know the passenger numbers?

Anonymous said...

Cargolux and ACG don't seem to fly in any more.

Anonymous said...

yes, there is very little left to complain about

Anonymous said...

yes, the cancer victims must be unhappy though?

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:54, you clearly are not a candidate for Master Mind, are you? Think about, KLM have two departures a day but just one arrival. Where do you think they get the extra plane from or do they have a hanger full of them at Manston?

Of course, there is still a 2045 arrival, which is the plane used for the 6:30 departure the next morning.

As for passenger numbers, as with most schedule flights, some are half empty and others are fully booked.

Anonymous said...

Missing the point 3:53 - airlines usually have several planes available.

If they're just recycling the same one(s) then KLM aren't really making an investment are they?

Some are full you say? You don't know do you?

Anonymous said...

On Driver's blog he's detailing how he's been refused copies of the TDC accounts by TDC(!) Appalling and do councillors not review these each month anyway?

Anonymous said...

TDC etc documents worth looking at:

* Manston fines
* EKO contracts
* Ferrygate minutes and emails
* Thor pollution
* TDC salaries, pensions, expenses, cars, office space
* recycling/landfill use
* QEQM mortality rate/type

Anonymous said...

10:16, wow you are seriously thick. If an airline ran two departures from an airfield where they only have one arrival a day they would ultimately run out of aircraft even if, by some freak chance, they had a couple of spares sitting around at Manston.

Yes there is still a 2045 arrival, yes some flights are fully booked, but, tell you what, if you know otherwise prove it.

Anonymous said...

We were asking you 6:23 on the bookings so tell us rather than being insulting and being vague.

And why are the planes overflying the towns like the Cargolux plane today? It's illegal and should be fined shouldn't it?

Anonymous said...

apparently Driver can now see council documents(!!). What on earth are these civil servants playing at with our money?

Anonymous said...

See you are awake at last 10:36 and as silly as ever. Trust you enjoyed your lie in which is much needed at your age. Since you evidently had not noticed, there are planes over flying towns all over the UK round the clock, but you obviously only notice the lower altitude ones.

What is to be your theme for today, absent firemen, smoke from training fires, planes that leave but never arrived in the first place or kerosene impregnated rainfall. I can hardly wait for my daily chuckle.

Anonymous said...

Thicko6:23 seems to be a regular.

Obviously nothing much happening at Manston

And nothing worth bothering to reply to.

Anonymous said...

Well nothing much there to have a chuckle at, 11:17, and well below the usual standards of nonsense you come up with. Just have to look around the other blogs for a laugh though it should not be difficult. No doubt Rick will be saving the world from some dastardly plot over on Bignews.

Anonymous said...

Another Manston employee here ..yes there is fire cover for all flights

The CAA publish figures for all routes. You'll have to work out the average yourself by using the number of pax per period, number of flights, seats per Fokker 70 and period of times quoted in the figures.

ACG were taken over, CLX still fly in several times a week

Anonymous said...

Thanks 12:25 can you give us a bit of detail though?

Was fire cover stopped after 5pm? How is it handled for weekends? Flights after 11pm?

As a rule of thumb, what's your view on passenger numbers: i presume at least half empty?

When do Cargolux fly in - I understood once a week on Thursday? - and ACG etc now don't?

How many flights are required to validate the radar/operating licence etc etc?

Anonymous said...

ACG doesn't say it's been taken over - it's gone bust. I mean declared insolvency which is completely different to going bust.

Yet another failed airline at Manston not paying its fines?

Anonymous said...

Zero passengers on Cargolux and few on KLM. Manston isn't exactly a boon to the Thanet economy. Close it down.

Anonymous said...

Radar is not always manned, if not, approach service is available and radar isn't a requirement, one or other is available in opening hours. If fire cover ever was closed at 5, no aircraft would have taken off after.
Even nowadays the airfield will close for a few hours if the airport was open early or is required to stay open later.
There is always fire cover when the airport is open.
Most Recent Stats from CAA:
Amsterdam route had 3,731 passengers in June, which comes to a 38.9 % load factor.
Previous load factors - May was 40.7 % and April was 34 %

Anonymous said...

Oh, Cargolux:
Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri .. weekly

Anonymous said...

Crikey 9:03 - the radar is not manned?

So planes are flying in blind on the wrong routes?

Fire cover was removed after 5pm (how do we check it's in place now?) - and you say the airport closes for a few hours during the day now? How does that work?

KLM stats: c.two-thirds empty is not good.

What are the Cargolux flight times? It only seems to be on a Thursday or Friday and occasionally a Sunday?

Does the airport close at the weekend as there are no flights?

Anonymous said...

20M passengers though according to Buchanan and the Gazette today and only a billion quid or so to upgrade the railway.

And by 2050 or maybe never. And definitely no night flights either, maybe, possibly.

Anonymous said...

Airport can close for a few hours if nothing is due in or out.
You don't need radar for all flights (light aircraft etc) so why have it manned and open? but there is always fire cover in opening hours and an approach service.
You don't seem to understand what's required.
You need to drive through and see the Cargolux etc aircraft on the deck, I assure you they do come.
The airport is open at weekends, there are commercial flights daily (KLM) plus cargo.

Anonymous said...

If the airport closes for a few hours does everyone go home?

Why does it stay open on a weekend (certainly before KLM) when there must be almost no flights?

What's the approach service?

So when planes were landing at night eg EgyptAir they were landing without radar?

Anonymous said...

Staff don't go home, they're just resting and therefore not 'on duty' in quiet times so hours in service don't count(working hours are limited, hence the closures to extend the opening hours).
No requirement for radar to land at Manston After coming off London radar service etc.
Open at weekends, for light aircraft plus any commercial traffic that is due.

Anonymous said...

So although staff are at work 7am to 11pm they're not paid for those hours?

And there is no radar at Manston after dark?

And fire cover 5pm to 11pm even if there are no scheduled flights?

Cargolux aren't scheduled so there are occasional flights and at the weekend - but as before staff aren't paid?

It sounds a strange situation where the promise of jobs is negligible and the jobs there are like gangers or piecework or zero hours ocntracts?

Anonymous said...

I am bored of going in to detail.., there are split shifts ..
If the airport is open there is fire cover.
Class the staffs working hours as flexi-time.
The CAA monitors all this closely.
Radar can be closed in the day, not just after dark.
The airport doesn't need radar to be running, even an large jetliner can land without its sevice.

Anonymous said...

Flexitime is different as that's changing days etc - what you're saying is even though workers are there the airport is "closed" ie they're waiting for planes, so they're not paid for being there?

That sounds illegal doesn't it?

You haven't mentioned about fire cover when planes were arriving at 3am? The fire crews couldn't have been there then?

Who's on fire duty this weekend?

Infratil made a big point of upgrading the radar but the radar isn't often used? Jumbo jets require radar don't they?

It sounds a bit flimsy at best at Manston doesn't it? Do you get facemasks and gloves for handling fuel etc?

Anonymous said...

Why would you turn off radar in the day and at night? It's only an electricity cost isn't it?

Anonymous said...

THE AIRPORT DOESN'T NEED RADAR!!!!
Some of the major airports in the airports don't even have it.
Other onboard electronic aids do the navigation and landing approaches etc.
Staff work a shift, it could be 8 hours, it could be 12, depends how it goes on the day
And as I keep saying, there is ALWAYS fire cover if the airport is open, either for a landing or take off. Whether for a single seater or a jumbo

Anonymous said...

"Why would you turn off radar in the day and at night? It's only an electricity cost isn't it" No, you need someone to man it.
And there's nothing on radar then to monitor.

Anonymous said...

Nice try Anon 2:16pm but you are wasting your time. The anti-Manston troll does not understand anything, either by choice or cell capacity, and anything you say will be twisted and used to support his ridiculous argument.

Anonymous said...

If you had radar you obviously need it sowhy switch it off. Especially when it's minimal cost? Planes seem to turn up fairly randomly at Manston as well. 2 planes offroute today over the beaches and powerboat event?

Who was at the airport for Customs etc? Who was the fire cover?

Which major airports don't have radar if even Manston has it?

Anonymous said...

5.55 you clearly have no understanding of the UK air traffic control network and when and where radar is required.

You have been told repeatedly that fire cover is provided at Manston for all aircraft movements yet you persist with your nonsense. To what end and for what purpose. Everyone else can see you are an idiot so why can't you.

Anonymous said...

Tut Tut. Rude. You were asked about the radar and why it's turned off?

Also who was the fire cover on Sunday for the off-route planes.

You claim you work at the airport so can answer these points and impress us that manston isn't some badly run Mickey Mouse outfit.

Anonymous said...

You want names of staff on duty? You're becoming obsessed in my eyes...
The runway aligns with the main beach, so flying on the correct trajectory to land on the ILS will make it fly over there, not an incorrect one.

Anonymous said...

858 - it's required at manston but you switch it off.

Who was the fire cover - if you work at the airport you must have the shift details.
