I'm pleased to report that my Twankey is going down well in Bournemouth! Hurrah! However, it does mean that I've become slightly semi-detached from the Thanet scene. Boo!
Nonetheless, I'm still getting a torrent of emails from my spies around the septic isle, and this one especially caught my eye. It's a proposal to re-open the Granville bars on the trendy East Cliff in the Millionaires' Playground. Apparently Punch Taverns are looking to sub-lease the space, and an application for a premises licence will be made shortly. According to the blurb above, the bars retain 'a very rare... Putin fire place'. Just the thing to go with one's iced Litvinenko Vodka, methinks.
So in the not-too-distant future there could be a boutique hotel, a theatre and cinema, and a couple of bars (if you include the San Clu), all within a hop and skip from the old cliff top mansion.
Crikey! At the rate things are going, it'll be just like Sandbanks! Pip pip!

Punch Taverns? A PubCo notorious among the seasoned ale drinkers, of whom there a number on the blessed Isle! Not necessarily good news.
C'mon Checksfield (Margate's North and South!) you are currently in the throes of the titanic efforts to try and rebrand Margate. We've always, in Ramsgate, been the brains to Margate's brawn and fleshy bits, that you so lovingly record.
What's a Putin fireplace? Is the (chimney) breast bare and does it look ever so slightly gay?
Bill I think you have the wrong end of the stick here, the lease belongs to Punch Taverns and they have put it on the market in the hope that another operator will buy it to open as a going concern.
Trying again here my first comment vanished. Bill it is Punch who are trying to sell their leasehold, so another operator can open it as a going concern.
This Punch Taverns ECR ?
Mine's a pint please Mr Eastcliff. No make it 6 pints and a vindaloo at the new the Indian restaurant opening in Ramsgate. As long the total bill for entertaining does not exceed £99.99 I will not haver to declare it to the Council. Do you have any planning applications I can help with?
Peter, we are already Margate Industrial Estate.
And don't forget the spooky tunnels which rise up in the Granville, great for murder mysteries like "Who killed ECR?"
Margate Couth
Fixed that for you Pistol Pete
Must be a crossed wire somewhere. Punch Taverns do not have a leasehold interest there.
