New Ferry Firm 'All Piss And Wind'

Reports that a new ferry service between Ramsgate and Ostend will begin in the New Year have been described as 'all piss and wind' by the highly respected Army Rumour Service (ARRSE).

According to a post on the ARRSE website, several firms have been set up with a view to restarting the link to Belgium, including Yasmin Ferries, Regina Line and Sun Link. All the firms have been backed by an individual that ARRSE names as Ernst Munk, who boasted on his Facebook page as recently as 19 December that he would be starting a Ramsgate-Ostend service soon.

ARRSE concludes: 'If any of you are sent anything by a company called Yasmin Ferries at an address in Lydney, Gloucestershire, or someone calling himself Ernst Munk, burn it before it burns you.'

Rumours of a new service have also been circulating in Belgium. One ferry spotter in Ostend told The Daily Thanet over the weekend: 'The Larkspur ferry was sold again yesterday for €870,000, buyer unknown. The other laid-up ferry was sold for €750,000 to Oilchart, which has now chartered her for a new Ostend-Ramsgate line. Sunlink Ferries intend to start on 1 January 2014 with the Ardenia (ex TEF's Gardenia) and intends to put a second ferry on the line (a pure roro ferry). The third ferry would be a mixed passenger ferry and they intend to carry foot passengers.'

However, the Belgian source concludes: 'The strange thing is that neither (the port of) Ramsgate nor Ostend know anything about it.

The news comes in the week that Thanet Council argued it had been right to squander £3.4m of taxpayers' money in the now infamous Ferrygate deal, which saw the council secretly subsidising the route's former operators TransEuropa Ferries, who went bankrupt in April.

Meanwhile the Met Office has warned the south coast to expect substantial amounts of piss and wind over the next 24 hours, with 80mph gussets expected in the English Channel.

"80 mph gussets" wow, a time to be down on the harbour strip tonight?

This blog is crap now!

What? Now that there's no talk of cancer, 0% fraud, Thor pollution, banned flights, and all the other tripe you used to plaster it with Tim? You must be madder than we all thought.

You cant carry on using The Daily Thanet as the real one is up and running again.
Think again or hold one of your famous polls.

What about Thanet True life or Thanet Rising Star?

Have to agree that the blog's gone downhill. I think the basic problem is that the old blog used to rely on articles based on true stories. The new blog is trying to produce something every day and, if there isn't a new scandal to base it on, the only option is to make something up in its entirety. The problem with doing this is that it isn't satirical and it isn't funny.

P.S. Why make up a story about the ferries when the EKO scandal is so bizarre that you couldn't make it up?

I do love the annual Ramsgate ferry services rumour - there seems to have been talk of a ferry to Boulogne on a regular basis since I moved here nearly 11 years ago - and now a whole new fertile rumour ground - the return of the Ostend ferry - this one could run and run! Or not, as seems rather more likely. Ferry Christmas everybody!

Well spotted ECR, these ferries are junk and certainly must not sail into Ramsgate again with the air pollution etc.

Which councillors have approved in retrospect the secret deals with FerryGate? They should resign.

Not to secure a portion of any ferry sale is of course utter incompetence again by Hart, Bayford, Everitt and Wise.

They couldn't run a whelk stall and are intent on covering up the TDC corruption and incompetence in effect working against the public who elect and fund them.

As you well know by now Richard, TDC did not subsidise Transeuropa.
They didnt even give them free berths. They did give a business that had been hugely profitable to them for many years, defered payments.

Worrying Dave that you think deferred payments are not a subsidy with a real cost.

It's public money so why worry if it's wasted. We'll pay more in tax and missed opportunities.

But a quibble compared to your assumption that a secret council deal is somehow acceptable.

Hart and Everitt should go and Bayford and Wise.

A failed council. What is happening with the EKO costs?

Just to respond briefly to some of those points:

12:19pm - 'This blog is crap now!' You think I care?

2:49pm - 'You cant carry on using The Daily Thanet as the real one is up and running again.' Ditto.

3:43pm - 'Have to agree that the blog's gone downhill. I think the basic problem is that the old blog used to rely on articles based on true stories. The new blog is trying to produce something every day and, if there isn't a new scandal to base it on, the only option is to make something up in its entirety. The problem with doing this is that it isn't satirical and it isn't funny.' Ditto again. Plus this story isn't made up, even though it looks like it should have been!

David Green - 'As you well know by now Richard, TDC did not subsidise Transeuropa.' Can't see the difference, frankly, between allowing a failing business to 'defer payments', and a 'subsidy'.

Meanwhile my comment filter has already trapped yet more 0% cancerisation crap.

To be honest I have much better and bigger fish to fry than worry about this blog, or the comments it attracts. If you want to understand the level that the debate on Thanet blogs has descended to, here's a prime example which was caught in the filter recently, from Peter Checksfield: 'Epps you wanker, I haven't been a naturist for years.' The spirit of Oscar Wilde lives on!

There's plenty of Thanet goss on Facebook these days, or if you want to part with 80p, and can bear the rotten writing, why not go out and buy a copy of Thanet Watch? You might even find some of my stuff plagiarised in there, uncredited of course.

Even the Gazunder has stooped to quoting me without so much as a nod these days. So you can see why I've got a case of terminal ennui.

Besides, it's Christmas, and I'm not being paid enough to pass up on all the party invites to keep you lot entertained!

Pip pip!

Airports and cancerisation crap.

That comment sounds a bit intelligent for Checksfield.

I think that Checksfield. Epps and Holyer are ruining Thanet's blogs with all their rubbish. Richard Card doesn't help but I hesitate to put him in the same category as the others because he's complaining about an establishment cover-up. If he was right about this it would be a major story.

The thing that interests me is that TDC were concerned about the impact of blogs comments on their reputation as long as 18 months ago. The recent report revealed that their reputation hasn't improved. Knowing the council as I do, it wouldn't have surprised me in the least if, in response to the blog issue, they launched a dark ops. campaign to ruin the blogs and make them unreadable. Are their individuals on the blogs seeking to ruin them for political reasons?

How come this Daily Thanet isn't as good as the other one?

Dear Dave, I've been a loyal council tax payer for years. I pay top whack, yet only stay in Thanet 2 or 3 nights a week. I work, earning a fairly sizeable salary, spending a fair proportion in Thanet at the weekends. You might say I'm a good citizen, a net contributor to society. Profitable.

If I fall on hard times and can't pay my council tax but still have an income source so cannot claim benefits, how long will it be before you call the bailiffs?

I will give you a clue - it's a lot less than the years you allowed TEF to defer payments.

Shit answer Dave. Good luck in opposition.

Hiya ECR.

Well, as you know, I sent a submission to Lord Carlile and the independent QC who monitors the effectiveness of Terrorism Law.

Lord Carlile, after studying the report, concluded that the content are not conspiracy theory. Jolly decent of him.

Essentially what happened next was information was given to me that I reported in accordance with Section 54 Terrorism Act 2000.

The information concerns back up generators and emergency shut down site supply at Dungeness A. You will know that this power station went offline 2006 and some of its electrical installation is part of the routing for safety circuitry at the operational Dungeness B.

Anyways up the nuclear watchdog people have asked their site inspectorate to investigate.

Happy Christmas fans Rick XXX

Good point 7:30 and the blogs have been a thorn in the side of TDC in the absence of any opposition.

Even the Independent scrutineers accused TDC possibly of corruption then all resigned.

Certainly Epps as a Tory councillor is doing his best to deliberately downplay corruption at TDC through insults and repeat postings.

But then so have all the councillors of any colour rosette.

Holyer is more a Manston fanatic and Mallinson pops up now and then as a Tory activist and Manston fanatic.

Peter seems more drawn into the arguments such as they are and often posts interesting views.
