Car Park Lark

As I'm currently 'off-territory' here in Bournemouth, I thought I'd go the whole hog and bring you an item about Broadstairs!

I'm indebted to the excellent Broadie magazine for this one - click on the pic to big it up. It's a press release from Isle Homes about the company's 'exciting new development' of 14 houses on the Vere Road car park site in the town. But, as the Broadie says, what about all the disruption during the build, which starts in the New Year and will continue until autumn 2014? Not to mention the future lack of parking facilities once 14 houses have been plonked there!

Oh well, at least Boredstares will get a new public toilet block out of it. And as for parking, well, I'm sure all those lovely summer visitors will be able to find plenty of spaces in the Millionaires' Playground, where our buildings seem to have turned into car parks over the years, rather than the other way round!

Update: Despite me being told at the time that this was an old story and a 'non-issue', it seems that it has subsequently (Jan 2014) exploded into a ball of angry, disgruntled fire that is threatening to engulf the whole of Boredstares in the flames of outrage and revolution! Well, sort of. Click here for more.

Sorry Ricardo but this is an old issue. The planning went through many moons ago. Should people have not objected then?

Of course it's an old issue. I'm not stupid, just an inveterate muck-raker!

The press release is new, though.

doesnt the pres release say there will be a new car park and coach park? Its about time the place was tidied up, it can hardly be called fit for puropse at the moment. I withhold judgment until we actually see what new facilities the town gets.

Wake up people. Of course there will be disruption during the build, but without that nothing would ever progress. At least this isn’t another Royal Sands carbuncle. I too will wait and see. A new car park, coach park and toilet block, TDC would never have found the money for this, it’s a major coup for Broadstairs tourism. Ok 2014 will be disrupted but think long term. I detect some Ramsgate jealously here. Maybe the site could be Weatherspoon’s biggest beer garden yet!

It's a no brainer for the developer, they'll probably all be sold by Christmas.
I wonder whether Terry Painter and Bob Bayford will be able to watch it being built out their back windows.

Come on ECR!

A car park?

Some Widow Twankey drivel? Comments censored? Anon postings not allowed?

Your blog's crumbling into tedium.

Where is your view on TDC corruption? Or the Sericol pollution? Or GloagAir?

The training fires pollution at the MOD Fire training base never get mentioned much. What are our councillors doing?

Dumped aircraft at manston left by Infratil = will they or Gloag be paying to remove them or the taxpayer?

What's that got to do with a Broadstairs car park? Or can't you read?

The discussion has moved on from car parks (yawn) to the performance of the council in general such as Royal sands or corruption or pollution. Do keep up.

Poor old Peter. Quite how did detailed responses from the Environment Agency merit your description as a conspiracy theory ?

With regard to Sericol (Broadstairs) the EA are quite clear that the cyclohexanone contamination will remain a problem for "The foreseeable future".

The EA are also clear that they were not the only agency investigating and that the initial inquiry raised was into suspected theft of solvents. IE Police were investigating.

In 1998 there was further inquiry into suspected thefts and the use of forged qualifications as false instruments to obtain employ by deception. The thing is there had been crime complaint ten years earlier in which Roger Gale was reported as having involved shortly before police inquiries were dropped. The context was not only obtaining employ by dception at Sericol but also an associate having gained employ with Deal Barracks security.

It is not conspiracy theory it is a fact that in 1997 Kent Police Authority called for inquiry and report. The question for Cllr Hayton is did he conceal that fact in his evidence to High Court in 1998 ? And there are equally serious unanswered questions for the man you describe as "Great" Roger Gale.

Now if I was a prospective buyer of new property in Broadstairs I would read the facts about Sericol and the years of council secrecy and I wouldn't touch the Thanet area with a barge pole.

These are gradually being broken up. No cost to anyone other than the breaker who does the job and sells the metal.
Not sure why the DAS link...

I believe Peter's point is that you're all blaiming your poor health on the water supply and the airport, when in fact it's your sedentary lifestyles that is the real problem. Still, it's probably easier to sit at home thinking of conspiracy theories than going for a run.

On the subject of Sericol/Fuji off Pysons Road, does anyone out there know what solvent they keep gassing off particularly after dark and spreads noticeably for at least a mile downwind?

Anonymous said...

Yes.

So do I, it's shit.

8:20 How many aircraft are dumped at Manston?

I hope they are not gradually being broken up as you randomly claim.

Manston is not an approved site for aircraft-breaking.

Dangerous pollutants etc released into the soil.

Has Gloag approved this? She seems to have bought a pig in a poke airport.

Gale receiving an anti-gagging law petition that would limit charities lobbying but allow Tesco etc.

Gale should be stripped of his knighthood for allowing the filming bans at TDC and corruption.

Not one word from him or Sandys.

8:23 going for a run in a cloud of aviation fuel fumes would be worse wouldn't it?

Health statistics around airports are much lower than other areas as you'd expect form the fumes and noise: asthma, cancer, rare cancers, leukaemia, heart attacks, stroke.

Perhaps most importantly we need ti understand why and how TDC and Infratil removed the air and noise monitors at Manston. The pollution is not being recorded properly if at all.

Where are the KIACC reports? And what was the Hart and Gloag and Carter meetings details on pollution and cleanup?

We seem to have been deliberately polluted by our councils.

11.43 you certainly seem to have been well and truly polluted between the ears. Do you not have something else you could talk about like car parks or Thai food?

More new houses on hefty mortgages means more double-dipping by the banksters and more national debt sold to China (they own us now).

Good for the economy? I think not.

A sharp rise in interest rates and the banksters take the spoils.

You live local and constantly moan about the airport but have no idea what happens up there by going and looking. You can see everything you moan about .. and count the scrappers etc yourself.
There is approval given to dismantle aircraft in approved methods. But no, I can't prove it either.

Anonymous said...

would 9.13am say what it is then?

Anonymous said...

If they are non-airworthy and can't be scrapped at Manston what would the solution be?
Anyway, only one left now ..
