Wetherspoons Rank Outsiders

The result of my latest 7 day poll is in - and it's an overwhelming vote against Wetherspoons taking over the Royal Victoria Pavilion here on our lovely Ramsgate front! For the record, here's how you voted:

Question: Which future for the Royal Pavilion?

Wetherspoons Pub: 36% (35 votes)
Market And Community Space: 63% (60 votes)

So that's that, then. We should be getting our foodie market and community space any time soon! Hurrah!!!

Meanwhile, up on the grimmer west side of town, I see that the Project Motorhouse initiative to, er, create a community space in the old Motor Museum has been re-christened by the mandarins over in Margate. Riffling through the 240 pages of guff about 'Key Performance Indicators' and 'Summary Outturn Positions' that's being presented to TDC's cabinet next week, I came across this gem (click on the pic to big it up):
I know that nice, Australian, Dr Who lady who's spearheading Project Motorhouse won't mind me saying that she can be a bit gobby, but 'Project Motormouth' is going too far, I'd say!

Meanwhile a building has collapsed on Ramsgate High Street, not completely of its own accord, it has to be said. Oh well, nothing new there then.

Clearly a classic Freudian slip - since everyone has called it Motormouth since its inception, people have probably forgotten it has an official name!

As for the planning/conservation/heritage officers of the Duffers - I am wondering if there actually are any? Or have they all taken sick leave under pressure of work. There is a big scandal in the way listed buildings are treated in TDC land - we don't have to obey the same rules as the rest of Kent...despite the vast number of listed buildings here...More than Bath? Not likely if they are allowed to carry on like this.

Hurrah!Hurrah,hurry up Wetherspoons get cracking.

Anonymous said...

Far too many and overpaid civil servants if they're busy listing minor community groups - usually working for free - as somehow representing tax-funded council value.

Where is the monthly FOI of their 750/£25M salaries and pensions by department? Why do the councillors not review the costs each month?
Why are meetings not filmed and on You Tube/TDC website each month?

Lazy and incompetent and corrupt and destroying the towns and being paid to do so.

Anonymous said...

A Wetherspoons is a terrible idea and only slightly worse than a crappy market in a Grade 1 listed building left derelict for years already.

Anonymous said...

Is public filming still not allowed for the next council meeting? Or the council videos that keep accidentally not being done?

Every member of the public should film away on their camera. They can't remove everyone each meeting much as they'd like to.

Which councillor will speak up on the strange new TDC constitution of secrecy?

Anonymous said...

They need to get a move on too with the WW1 celebrations of Canada's hospitals, Belgian celebrations and Richboro Port commemoration.

It's November and the events begin in August. For 4 years.

Anonymous said...

Will you be filming it 6:50? You'll be suggesting we start a petition next!

Anonymous said...

And your suggestion, 6:45?

Anonymous said...

I would film the council meetings if I attended. Wouldn't you 7:13? So few people do either though.

Petitions do so much.

A None of the Above spoilt ballot and election boycott, and tax boycott works better doesn't it?

The Duffers think they'll carry on just by rigging the bureaucracy and Party shuffle.

When are the Mayor elections next year? Are they just doing their own private election and double-hatters again?

Does Margate even have a Town Council yet?

Anonymous said...

Can somebody not delete porno Pete and stop him using respectable blogs to peddle his filth?

Anonymous said...

Yes Margate needs a Town Council, that way we can have a town as great as Ramsgate!

Anonymous said...

Margate certainly should have a Town Council, and work with Ramsgate and Broadstairs and the villages, and the rest of East Kent for everybody's benefit.

A quarterly East Kent Council of the town mayors would be cheap and simple to instigate - and ensure East Kent is not left as slums or tarmac from Maidstone.

Presumably East Kent contributes about half of the KCC budget. Where is that value? Where is the deprivation weighting? Where is the tourism? Where are the farms?

Why are there still polluting overflights of Ramsgate even as of today - the political blame game led by the Margate Duffers? Then it will switch to the Ramsgate Duffers? And then back again.

Buchanan and Pedro in the Control Tower and Macgonigal should be arrested and jailed.

Anonymous said...

Please GFY Garbutt. You have turned boring people into an art form and why are you selling your house. Her indoors fed up with supporting you.

Anonymous said...

8:45 obviously has far more intelligence than 8:53.

Anonymous said...

Why do the Manstoners hate Garbutt so, and accuse everyone of being Garbutt?

Garbutt isn't the only one to oppose Manston.

More importantly must they whine on here? Either there is pollution at Manston for example or there isn't.

If there is, then how much pollution is there and how and when is it being cleaned up?

Manston will close and the sooner the better.

Which idiot would build an airport on the water supply and allow repeated safety breaches? And then try and justify it even now?

Anonymous said...

Clive and Bob support the airport. Probably Latchford too although as UKIP Leader he's said nothing since the election. And Carter and Gale and Sandys on the Parkway freight depot. And all the other councillors keep quiet. Buchanan supports it too but Infratil have sold it and him down the river.

Maybe he and Pedro can share a cell and save on the prison costs. It's a lot of cancer and repeated safety breaches.

Anonymous said...

Pedro?

Anonymous said...

Garbutt (or is it Higgins?) obviously means Checksfield, though if he believes it's a criminal offence to like an airport he's REALLY lost the plot!

Anonymous said...

I don't really care either way myself, but what I can't understand is why so many anti-Manston people wish to remain anonymous. Or could it just be one anti-Manston person?

Anonymous said...

In other news, Frankfurt Airport reported a drop in seized drugs due to the ban on night flights imposed in 2012. Seizures dropped a mighty 50% between 2010 and 2012 as a night time flying ban was introduced. The ban reduced the amount of in flights from South America, known for its cocaine production.

In other other news, Cargolux has introduced a new weekly service to South America, stopping in Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia, and Puerto Rico, before following onto Manston on a Thursday, just in time for the weekend. It does not say what they will be importing.

Anonymous said...

I can assure you 10:49 that there's actually 2 of us! We won't reveal our names though, as we don't want people laughing at us in the street.

Anonymous said...

7:03 .. it does say ...
"Cargolux expects to carry consumer goods, automotive cargo
and spare parts on the services to Argentina. Return flights are expected to carry mainly
perishables, automotive parts and live animals such as horses."

Anonymous said...

.. and that will be race horses .. not edible ones .. before you start.

Anonymous said...

10 AM, I am sure they laugh at you in the street on sight so your names are quite irrelevant.

Sadly Thanet blogging is in terminal decline. Whilst Garbutt screws everything on here, Turner and James do likewise on Thanetonline.

The only safe place from nimbys these days is Thanet Life.

Anonymous said...

Thanet Life is run by a nimby! Just be thankful he lives in Westgate and not in Nethercourt.

Anonymous said...

See a plane has just gone over, Tim, so I hope you did not have any prospective buyers viewing at the time.

Anonymous said...

Perishables. I like it.

Anonymous said...

Not live animal imports at Manston! No doubt the dreaded Driver will be there with banner and megaphone whilst the Met keep tabs on him from the control tower.

See his latest wheeze for the Pavilion is a community centre funded by guess who, us lot. This highly experienced entrepreneur and financier seems to have worked out, where everybody else failed, that it could be a flourishing town asset.

Anonymous said...

Who pays for turner?

Anonymous said...

I believe Turner works for a living, as does James!

Anonymous said...

The proManston lot on here tend to be ex-councillor Gerry O'Donnell, councillor/excouncillor William Epps, John Holyer and Alan Mallinson. Ren Woods the UKIP woman pops up occasionally as does the fireman from Manston and a few random people.

This lot are at least 65 years old and have links to the RAF and can never explain why Manston will be a great success now or in the future.

Pedro (Peter?) is the Infratil employee in charge of the control tower and flights: no doubt Buchanan will blame him for banned flights etc in the future.

Anonymous said...

Very interesting point on Cargolux and drugs 7:03. Saudi cargo is of course infamous for late flights and a bomb risk.

Anonymous said...

What is the EKO secrecy in the Gazette today: £600k of TDC and KCC money but they can't explain what it's been spent on? Latchford was one of the Board members on that wasn't he and it was some sort of quango for what?

Anonymous said...

Saudi cargo only hops over from Ostend anyway. Is it a regular flight now? Manston clutching at straws again.

Anonymous said...

None of the Above on the ballot sounds good, and a minimum 30% turnout null and void and rerun.

In Thanet we just have party doublehatters filling out a form and soaking up each seat and rewriting the rules to suit themselves and whitewashing any problems.

Anonymous said...

You get worse, Garbutt, and still cannot put together a decent debating point. If the best you can come up with is to insult your opponents you have already lost.

Peter, BTW, takes photos of nude totty. He is not a plane spotter.

Anonymous said...

Who says its Garbutt and what debating point have you answered or raised AnonManston?

You're in favour of Saudi or IranAir flights again? Manston is a great success now and in the future?

Peter produces some excellent photos if rather plump nude totty. Nobody has accused him of being a plane spotter. Pedro is also called Peter and is the Infratil control tower chap, do keep up.

And you think Buchanan won't blame him for the banned flights to stay out of jail?

Anonymous said...

KCC council tax increase of 2% next year apparently so there'll be lots of funding to improve Ramsgate.

Why are childrens centres etc closing though? Surely FOI and the council accounts would reveal where pensions can be cut and back office cuts made.

The point of council tax is to have the services not necessarily the bureaucrats?

Show us all the costs and staffing levels and we can take a view on tax increases and closures that we are funding.

Anonymous said...

The Manston lot are much older than 65! And so are all the councillors.

Anonymous said...

There are no 'banned' flights .. nothing breaks the law.
Saudia comes from Amsterdam, the airline runs the route, not Manston, so the airline must find it worthwhile, they do it twice a week.

Anonymous said...

Flybe flew a lot more frequently than that and they never made a penny.

Anonymous said...

Some of the pro-Manston loonies are very old and used to work at the airport back in the sixties and seventies. One of them worked for Invicta Airways and there's another one who worked for Silver City (later Air Ferries. There are a couple who regularly write into the Gazette. They seem to have conveniently forgotten that all of the airlines they used to work for went bust using Manston.

Anonymous said...

Come off it 7:44, the banned flights that regularly flew in have been stopped eg Afghan Air that nearly crashed or MK Air that had its planes destroyed.

The banned night flights have largely stopped eg EgyptAir flying in at 3am.

But the overflights of the town are banned under the S106 as you well know.

Infratil and TDC have failed to regulate the airport and deliberately endangered the public.

Anonymous said...

This link shows Saudi Cargo at Ostend. When are the two flights from Amsterdam into Manston?

So that's Saudicargo twice a week maybe. And Cargolux once a week. And empty KLM flights twice a day or have they been reduced now? How many flights are required for the radar if Manston has any?

Cargolux add the new flight next week that makes a total of 7 a week for them and 13 scheduled heavy freight flights a week.
The s106 restricts flights it doesn't ban them ..
KLM figures are on target and they will announce something soon.

Eh 9:21? The Ostend link is nothing to do with Manston? That's where most of the planes hop over from.

And when exactly are these 7 Cargolux scheduled flights and Saudi flights?

KLM were discussing reducing their flights in winter as they are flying only 30% full.

Charles Buchanan is feeding you this tripe while he polished his CV - and you believe it.

Flights are fined and banned for repeat overflights etc as you know. So why are the overflights continuing?

And banned EU flights like Afghan Air are banned so why is Pedro allowing them to land?

Anonymous said...

3 anti-Manstoners so far - yet the consultations are always packed in opposing flights at Manston.

Why were the TDC Airport Committee of councillors trying to close themselves down and presumably not report on manston at all?

And where are the KIACC secret meeting minutes? When is the next one if Manston hasn't closed by then?

Our councillors have been deliberately endangering us and now covering it up.

Second question is where is he moving too? People in Margate and Broadstairs have real cause to be worried, each already having one resident nutter and blogger of their own.

The Vicar.

Anonymous said...

Praps we are seeing a conversation between 1, maybe 2 pro manstoners digging up anti manston relics from the past as the game is lost. Lost for pro manstoners, as the airport is worth £1. Lost as the 200,000 passengers promised in 2010 for 2013 is more like 20,000. Lost as the runway debate in the southeast steers more towards any number of runways or airports that don't even exist than manston. Lost because its predominantly losers commenting on this string that are its only supporters. All 2 of you.

Anonymous said...

If Tim was a few years older we could shove him in an old folks home with Latchford, Epps and Holyer. If he doesn't slim down though he won't even make it till their age.

Anonymous said...

Is SMEG really being revived, or was that just the drink talking?

Anonymous said...

11:03, No way is that Ms Milroy-Sloan!

Anonymous said...

6:40, I believe that was just a wind-up. I agree that it needs to be revived though, so if Steve Higgins doesn't want to run it any more then why doesn't he hand it over to his friend Tim Garbutt? How about it Steve?

Anonymous said...

Manston is lost so they insult and scapegoat Tim.

Why do they ignore the fines that are due? Surely the Manston airport workers could release the flight logs before Buchanan or Pedro shreds them?

Anonymous said...

6:52, I'm not scapegoating anybody, I simply want us all to get behind a cohesive group again. I've no idea why Steve Higgins doesn't want to know anymore (presumably he now supports night flights), but if not then why doesn't someone else organise things? You perhaps 6:52?

Anonymous said...

We want you to organise it 7:13. And who said Steve supports night flights? He never has, what about you? And maybe he's bored of the insults and petty bickering.

Anonymous said...

6:39 is right and I would be concerned if there is a plane crash now as Infratil and TDC walk away having actively made the airport as dangerous as possible.

Anonymous said...

I can't put my name to an anti-Manston group as I'd lose my job! But it's a shame that not ONE person will do this. Maybe that's why things actually get done in Margate and not in Ramsgate, as people over there don't mind putting their names to things.

Anonymous said...

I support night flights!

Anonymous said...

Why would you lose your job 7:26? What sort of thing do you do apart form working at Manston prevents you from speaking up?

Many people - if not most - have spoken against Manston.

Nothing much has happened in Margate look at the farce over the Turner and now Dreamland and the High St.

Anonymous said...

I'm a cllr 7:38.

Anonymous said...

6:39 it's doubtful Latchford, Epps or Holyer will last another winter. Just pointless old fools.

Anonymous said...

OK 7:39 so why would you lose your job as a councillor? Many councillors oppose Manston.

Anonymous said...

Says it all about TDC doesn't it, a councillor afraid to speak up.

They have no council financial or staff information and simply jump when McGonagil snaps her fingers.

Anonymous said...

In the north of the isle people have organised themselves enough to stop giant corporations such as Tesco and Sansburys taking over, as well as organising clean-ups, pop-up shops, etc. In Ramsgate it seems that the best anyone can do is post anonymous comments on blogs rather than direct action.

Anonymous said...

I'm not a TDC cllr, I'm a Shepway cllr. This is why I just can't get involved in other district's decisions.

Anonymous said...

Opposing a Tesco planning application is hardly unique to Margate. And Margate is still a dump with the popup Portas activity nonexistent and even Dreamland only just regained.

Anonymous said...

Fair enough 7:44 ShepwayCllr, but you can speak up on other Districts activity. Many of the KCCers have Shepway roles etc and Manston is funded by KCC too with Shepway tax. And people in TDC area oppose Boris Island or Dungeness etc. Most even want the end of TDC it's so corrupt and useless.

Anonymous said...

Ramsgate direct action prevented Pleasurama. We could probably do with the same on Manston pollution/overflights and Thor pollution. Where are the Environment Agency?

Anonymous said...

TDC councillors never speak up just try and cover up the corruption and waste. Look at EKO.

Anonymous said...

NONE currently arrive at Manston from there

"And when exactly are these 7 Cargolux scheduled flights and Saudi flights?"
Check on the cargolux and Saudia websites for full details

"KLM were discussing reducing their flights in winter as they are flying only 30% full"
Not true, flights remain as they were in the summer

"Flights are fined and banned for repeat overflights etc as you know. So why are the overflights continuing?"
No flights are eligible for fines as they are not in a noise limited category

"And banned EU flights like Afghan Air are banned so why is Pedro allowing them to land"
No banned airlines have used Manston for a few years, Afghan weren't banned at the time of the incident, only after

Peter C said...

Have you sent a FOI request 8:20, or are you asking the question of others?

8:18 you're very naughty:

* Ostend: there may not be any currently but that's the usual flights previously

* Cargolux and Saudi scheduled flights: you must know as you've told us so detail them

* KLM true -and they are 30% full

* Fines: for overflights regardless of noise. ANd the noise restrictions are very naughty as in theory no plane upto a Hercules would be classed as noisy. Very naughty.

* Banned flights: utter rubbish. AfghanAir were banned before the crash. MK too? IranAir restricted to Heathrow. EgyptAir landing at 3am.

Very naughty of you Pedro's mate.

8:17 you're right Pleasurama is a mess but it is stopped. The Margate popup and Dreamland is a mess too isn't it?

7 scheduled Cargolux flights a week and another 6 from another airlines? Yeah right. What is on these planes or are they just refuelling? And Cargolux goes from Luxembourg to Ostend then Manston.

Anonymous said...

13 cargo flights is not even 2 a day plus the 2 KLM flights makes not even 4 a day. Presumably Buchanan unloads the planes himself?

How can 4 planes be allowed to fly over Ramsgate before manston closes? It's not difficult to route them over the rural end.

Anonymous said...

8:18 "no banned planes have used Manston for a few years". Hilarious and dangerous but which banned planes have used Manston and when?

Anonymous said...

We are not trawling the internet for schedules for you ..I can let you know day by day.
First Cargolux was this (Monday) morning. Two more tomorrow if you want to go and see as well as two other frighters. It is simple to go and see them for real.
KLM don't need to fill planes, they rely on those flying to Amsterdam having booked a more expensive onward services worldwide. Look on it as a local free bus to the supermarket if you like.
We can exchange messages on here tomorrow eve after the fifth freight flight of the week has been through.

Peter C said...

7:06, Whoever it was he stopped SMEG!

Anonymous said...

Thanks 8:13 you said they were scheduled so there must be a weekly schedule. What is it? Otherwise they are random flights.

What is on Cargolux or are they just refuelling?

KLM don't need to fill planes? You're joking. Unless they're using Manston as a sop to keep Amsterdam flights.

All of the above are useless for Thanet aren't they?

What about the banned aircraft?

Anonymous said...

The stop the loonies bloke was one of the firemen at Manston and he runs a fire extinguisher business now.

Anyone remember his name?

Is there fire cover at Manston after 5pm/weekends as that was stopped for a while?

Anonymous said...

There is a weekly schedule, here is some data from Cargolux to be getting on with.. they don't just refuel. www.cargolux.com/ftp/press/Flyers/pdfs//africaoct13.pdf
I really don't see why argue when anybody can sit and watch these things land and unload.
I'm not going to bite over 'banned' ..'overflights' .. etc ..

Anonymous said...

Thanks but I make this Tuesday, Friday and Saturday? 3 flights?

And Saudi? You work at the airport o must know.

And on the ground for about an hour flying in from Nairobi then onto Luxembourg?

That's just one extra flight and minimal cargo?

Why not discuss the banned flights - that is a serious security problem isn't it?

Anonymous said...

Will these Cargolux planes be flying over the towns?

Sounds like refuelling stops rather than cargo delivery.

Two Saudi flights but just on a Tuesday. Manston could close the other 6 days after that rush.

3 cargo flights on a Tuesday in total and one each on Friday and Saturday: 5 cargo flights a week.

It could certainly close 4 days or open just mornings.

It's finished isn't it.

You're misreading the links and those aren't all the schedules for Cargolux ..it clearly says Tuesday AND Thursday for Saudia on their link..
Anyone can see the flights for real if you park and watch. You will see flights daily, 4 tomorrow for starters. Go and check instead of going on a written word as you can't seem to read them properly..

You were telling us what the schedules were. But you don't know?

So far we have 5 scheduled flights a week.

Let's hope Special Branch is paying attention to these flights rather than Driver

Has this become a planespotter's blog?

Anonymous said...

The banned and illegal flights are concenring Peter so in that sense it is a planespotter blog. The worry is Infratil and TDC allowing it to happen. And Special Branch have a lot to answer for.

Boy, are there some really dense people on here. Just go up to the airport and see for yourselves.

Anonymous said...

You said they were scheduled flights but there's only 5 a week. How dense do you have to be to understand scheduled? Special Branch will be the ones with binoculars by the fence.

Dont worry everyone. Business is so good at Manston. The current owners are obviously a couple of wings short of an aircraft for selling it for a pound as 10,000 jobs, free flights to everywhere and freight coming out of our ear'oles are just around the corner.

The concern would be not just illegal flights but the waiving of fines and the cost of KCC investment etc.

It's a very expensive and dangerous failure at Manston again.

Who head sup the TDC Airport Committee apart from Twyman at KIACC?

FYI, I was talking to my mum at the weekend (she's 92 later this month) and she reminded me that her uncle and aunt used to run the pavilion back in the 1930s; it was their business.
Wetherspoon's? Would it undermine the good real Ale pubs in Ramsgate? I'm a don't know.

Update for Tim..
2 x Cargolux, 1 x World and 1 x Saudia Cargo yesterday .. all scheduled so up to 5 now this week.
Two freighters due today, one scheduled and one ad-hoc ...

Anonymous said...

Wow 8.12 am, perhaps the airport has been sold on the cheap. With all that traffic it might be worth £2 now

What's the difference between TDC backing the proposal for a community space in the Pavilion at Ramsgate and backing the Dreamland Trust at Margate? Both of them cant be sure of success. One of them will cost TDC millions and one just a few thousands.

Useful airport report at 8:12 so there is only 5 scheduled cargo flights a week not 7.

And occasional random flights as you say.

And 2 KLM flights per day still?

What was the overflight about 10pm last night? And customs checks? Overflights are banned aren't they especially dangerous at night.

Look at the Kazan flight last week that crashed on landing with all 50 passengers dead.

How safe is Manston in its last weeks?

Let's hope Kent Police and Special Branch are keeping an eye on Manston now rather than Driver!

I checked and there were 13 scheduled weekly freight flights last week and 8 ad-hoc.
They can't be that noisy if you missed them.
All will have has coverage for customs, ATC and Fire..
10pm last night was a KUZU Airbus ..and NO , overflights are not banned as we keep telling you.
