Plane Jane Takes A Flight Of Fancy

Holy planet-boilers! My normally level-headed chum, lovely Boredstares writer Jane Wenham-Jones, has gone to Manchester to speak at the annual Woman's Weekly Live! event.

Nothing out of the ordinary in that. Except she's chosen to fly there via Holland from RAF London Kent Manston Margate Tracey Emin Maggie Thatcher Schipol International Airport!

Talk about carbon positive! Any right-minded, environmentally conscious celeb would have driven there in their Toyota Priapus, or taken the train. But JW-J is so besotted with the idea of Richard Branson commandeering RAFLKMMTEMTSIA and turning it into a trillion-passenger-a-month uber-hub on her doorstep, she was apparently determined to let the plane take the strain.

Oh well, I gather her 9.35am KLM flight from Manston was delayed until 11.10am, meaning she didn't get to the centre of Manchester until 3pm. With an hour's check-in time, that makes the journey about six and a half hours, whereas the train would have got her door-to-door in just over four hours, and at roughly the same price, when you add the cost of cabs to and from airports.

Then again, I hear she's currently obsessed with a pilot. A TV pilot, that is, about wannabe writers, which she's presenting. I've popped a link to it on BoobTube down below. I guess she must be hoping that it'll, er, take off! (Geddit??!!!!???!!!!)

Update: Click here to see Plane Jane's justification in the Isle of Thanet Gazunder. Apparently it was plastic cups, along with 'wine and little salty biscuits' that persuaded her to feck the planet!

It is no mean feat to have been published. She backed herself and I wish her further success. Then the other girl who went daily to report on Sandy's trial. Looks like the distaff side is in the ascendant (see what I did there ECR ?)

I have Jane's book 'wannabe a writer' which is a good read well sprinkled with humour.

That said, one has to wonder about the future of publishers with self-publishing on the internet now all the rage.

About 12 people on each KLM flight according to No Night Flights.

What's your thoughts Cllr Epps on the Manston pollution/carbon footprint?

Unknown said...

My only thoughts where you are concerned, 4:27, is what a total waste of space you are. The subject matter concerns a local writer taking a flight of fancy and back you come with Manston pollution. How boring can you get?

Anonymous said...

Cllr Epps the post is about KLM/Manston and the carbon footprint. What do you think as our elected representative and self-publicist?

Richard Eastcliff said...

Most self-published books sell a maximum of two copies - one to the author's mum (if she's still alive), the other to his or her BFF. Most of them are unreadable drivel, in my experience.

Anonymous said...

I find Plain Jane tedious sub-Loose Women drivel at the best of times.

She's certainly idiotic in terms of Manston policy, or indeed any other policy.

And flying to Manchester via Holland says it all really. Mind you, Flybe went via Scotland to Spain so it's perhaps an improvement.

Schmoozyschlepp said...

Perhaps you could explain to her about carbon offsetting Ricardo?

Unknown said...

4:43 Where you are concerned I think nothing and I am not your elected representative, thank God. Try your own ward councillor.

Anonymous said...

Maybe if plane Jane wanted to drive to lakeside in Essex she would drive clockwise round the m25 to avoid the £2 toll.

Cllr Epps will crawl away and indulge in petty party insults of Driver or dull army reminiscing.

Anonymous said...

Oops missed he'd already replied at 4:56 #lazysod

Unknown said...

Interesting suggestion on Cllr Driver, 5:11, which party is he this week?

Anonymous said...

It's not planes but i bet the KCC chauffeurs is a fair bit of carbon and climate change?

Anonymous said...

Typical Eppsy nastiness to Driver and can't be arsed on anything else.

Unknown said...

5:20, at least I address the man by his proper title which is more than you do and, as a point of interest, where is all this alleged nastiness?

Anonymous said...

Don't even bother with Epps - empty waffle like most councillors

Anonymous said...

I don't think she is 5:37!

Anonymous said...

No time for the silly woman since she accused residents of Ramsgate of being selfish for opposing night-flights. Can't understand why the local rag gives her a regular slot to espouse her views. Why are her opinions more important than ours?

Anonymous said...

Nobody is "hiding" behind anonymity you silly little man. I choose to post anonymously because I work in a sphere where what you post on the internet is scrutinised intensely and can have serious repercussions. You don't have to post particularly extreme views. Even the mildest criticism of the establishment can see you blacklisted. I am simply doing what any sensible person in my position would do, and avoiding any putting myself in a compromising position.

You, on the other hand, don't have a meaningful job. You take seedy pictures of women who have such low self-esteem that they are prepared to allow you post those pictures on the internet for anybody to see. You have no reputation to protect and so, you are free to post stupid things on the internet all day every day and it doesn't matter if people reading those comments conclude that you are a an idiot.

I could make up a ridiculous pseudonym, like Eastcliff Richard. I note that haven't chosen to pester him with your silly nonsense. However, I prefer to post anonymously, as I am permitted to do.

Peter, ignore him. He's only jealous that you're out enjoying life while he's afraid to even speak up for himself (and please photograph Kerry again!).

Anonymous said...

Saw just the job for you Peter yesterday at Guys hospital. They have a large photographic unit taking pre and post op photographs of naked bodies. For research of course but it must cost millions to equip and run.

Anonymous said...

oh peter you are so boring. get a life

Anonymous said...

Gosh - I predict this one will run and run!

Anonymous said...

Even Peter's more interesting than you 11:07 (and that's saying something).

Anonymous said...

Oh dear. Looks like our anonymous friend really got under PC's skin. And there was me thinking Cheggers was proud of what he did.

Anonymous said...

I would imagine Peter could be quite busy with his paid for private photo's of the local hags. After all, they've got all that money from the tooth fairy to invest.

Unknown said...

If Cllr Epps is still following, can I respond to his comment at 4:56. You are my ward councillor. What is your opinion on carbon footprint discussed in this thread?

Unknown said...

Mr Smithson, if you really live in Bradstowe Ward, please feel free to write or email me direct with your name and address and I will respond.

Unknown said...

Finding myself with a bit of spare time I have decided to respond here to Duncan Smithson though must stress this is a personal view and not necessarily that of any organisation to which I belong.

Our local author went by a plane that would have gone whether she was on it or not, so she added nothing to the carbon footprint. The same would have applied had she gone by train. However, had she taken her own car then she would have made an additional contribution to green house gases.

On the broader issue of pollution and effect even the so called experts are divided in their opinions. Is global warming man made or from causes outside our control? One can find articles by 'experts' to support both options. As a result there is a danger we could reduce the quality of life in pursuit of the elimination of the carbon footprint for no gain.

On the local issue of Manston, well I would suggest the carbon emission from the traffic travelling the dual carriageway down the side of the airfield is far greater than from the handful of air movements. Should we close the road?

Anonymous said...

You take a reasonable position William. It takes a heck of a lot to de-stabilize a closed loop control system (which is what the eco system is)

The human lung for example has to change the chemical composition of air before it allows its oxygen and CO2 to reach the bloodstream.

The exchange mix is a massive 7% of CO2. And this is associated with a nasty little consequence of hyperventilation called Verigo Bohr syndrome.

On the Army front. In WW1 an RAMC officer with Royal Flying Corps cottoned on to this biochemistry. And used two breath hold tests to correctly predict and head off PTSD (Something the Spetznaz are into)

Being UK the RAMC man did not get support post WW1. Then we had the brilliant professor Haldane who researched submarine survival atmospeheres 1930s and he too latched on to this. But it was Russia post WW2 who took it fwd.

So there we are how did man evolve to have lungs that work on 7% CO2 ?

Carbon footprint. A bit of hypocrisy afoot. Cavity wall insulation. Oooh a sanctimonious UK citizen who preaches about carbon footprints and plane flights might get his cavity filled (It is ECR so acceptable quippery) but who has paid the eco citizen's insulation bill?

Basically China. Because they pay for the carbon footprint capacity being freed up by people like UK Govt so they can build more coal fuelled old technology power plant.

Best wishes Richard (Who is not Bluenote)

Here is a question put to MIT students.

Where does a tree get the material to make itself and grow?

Astonishingly some students said "The ground" but have you seen craters of disappearing soil around the bases of trees ? No.

Its plant growth building block is carbon. It takes it from CO2 and builds with the C whilst giving the O2 back to the air.

When air CO2 levels go up or down the tree grows faster or slower.

When trees disappear plankton grows faster (and weeds like mares tail which is a cunning survivor of ancient times going back millions of years I think)

If the carbon footprint eco priest talks to trees then ask what they are doing about the carbon footprint. And the tree will reply "Give us time the plankton ain't even kicked in yet".

So to my point which is an example of closed loop control.

The eco ego massages its cred by getting double glazing and cavity and loft insulation. The govt flogs off the carbon footprint saved to China and China creates the same amount of carbon footprint and thus tends to maintain global warming (sic) at its current level.

Then the eco ego's house gets damp and mould problems and he treats these with aerosol chemicals.

I don't think I insulted local women Cheggers. I think my criticism was fairly aimed at you for making money in such a seedy and unproductive way.

I didn't see your posting which was removed earlier. Presumably it was some low-class insult which you aimed at me in anger and frustration.

I suggest that,if you can't stand the heat over here you toddle back off to MC's site where you and your fellow stooges are permitted to dominate discussions with your crackpot views.

Anonymous said...

So W.Epps thinks that since the plane and train are going anyway the carbon footprint will not be affected by Jane's choice. But what if Jane and many of the other passengers did not choose the plane then just like Flybe services before the KLM routes would be axed. So its all down to Jane to help with the carbon footprint and in the process by using the train she could have saved over £100 for herself or whoever was picking up her expenses.

Anonymous said...

Think they would have to join a queue, Peter, because a lot of people are waiting for that insidious little creep to break cover.

Anonymous said...

>Our local author went by a plane that would have >gone whether she was on it or not, so she added >nothing to the carbon footprint.

Do you wonder were in such a mess when we elect idiots like this ? You would have thought a Tory councillor would have at least a basic understanding of market economics.

Unknown said...

Anon 5:08, your comment that if Jane and others stopped using the plane then the KLM flights, like the Flybee ones before them, would be cancelled more reflects your personal desire to see Manston close than any great concerns about carbon footprints.

Whilst that might be true of one small regional airport, it is too late for mankind to go back to travelling by donkey or ass. Even if Manston did close air travel will still increase whether Jane flies or not.

Oh dear. Now we catch a glimpse of Checksfield's foul underbelly. Impotent in the face of comments about his "business" he resorts to threatening another poster. However, in the process he reveals that he deals with some pretty unsavoury characters. Looks like I'm making the right decision to stay anonymous then. I wouldn't want Checksfield to set his nasty girls on me.

So you support John Hamilton's behavior and don't believe that Louise should inform the police?

Just checked the picture at top of Blog. Clearly KLM have improved the Thanet coast beyond recognition as part of their investment in Manston.
Should bring in the crowds to sunbathe among the palm trees!!
