Ramsgate celebs Brenda Blethyn (aka The Greatest Living Thanetian) and Janet Fielding (aka former Doctor Who companion Tegan) were on hand to help clear the garden for the cameras ahead of next month's benefit (in, er, Slough), which will feature no fewer that ten Doctor Who companions and at least one actual Doctor Who!
Let's hope they raise enough funds to regenerate (geddit?!??!) this derelict building, which is a key part of our lovely sea front!

Great news Mr E. Always good to see things moving regarding seafront regeneration. But surely the best thing is to have a coherent joined up seafront strategy which ties together the future of the port, the westcliff hall, the pavilion and the Pleasurama site rather than a ad-hoc disjointed approach. Could you let me have sum pearls od wisdom Mr E or failing that a pearl necklace
Trouble is, Mr D, who would pay for a joined-up approach?
I agree that Ramsgate desperately needs its prime sites at either end of the front - West Cliff Hall, Pavilion, Pleasurama - sorted. But it's going to take tens of millions to get that done, i.e. about the same amount as they've spent on Margate.
Given that TDC's policy seems to be to neglect our town and starve it of funds, at least the old motor museum is in the hands of people who want to get things done there for the benefit of Ramsgate, and have the drive and connections to achieve it, even though it's going to be a long slog.
With any luck, Wetherspoons will take on the Pavilion and spend the two million knicker or so that's needed to tart it up. Which only leaves the Pleasurama can of worms.
PS: Fancy a golden shower later?
Perhaps we could get enough volunteers to dig out the marina swimming pool
By what possible yard-stick is Brenda Brrthyrthrytrhrn the Greatest Living Thanetian? Or does being on TV top the rankings for people in Thanet for goodness sake.
She's the Greatest Living Thanetian, 4:27, because she's the only living Thanetian anyone has heard of.
Feel free to add your own candidates, though. What would be your criteria? Whether they've got an OBE or not?!
As I thought 4.32 basically it is because Brenda B has been on TV.
I say the Greatest "Thanetians" are going to be people you or I have never heard of. What you mean is the most heard of Thanetian, not the greatest. For me to make suggestions would require proper research way beyond the TV Times.
As somebody who is internationally renowned, who grew up in Ramsgate and still lives here unlike the awful Emin, and who turns out for community projects in her home town, I would say that Blethyn undoubtedly deserves the accolade. I am sure there are some other worthy candidates who we have never heard of, but if we have never heard of them we will never know will we?
So god for you, Brenda. We are proud to have you here in Ramsgate.
That's 'good' not 'god'! I was not proposing to deify her!
Surely roger latchford obe is the greatest thanetian we've got? Or does sir roger gale, sponsored by tesco and infratil, top the bill?
Even sandy should get a mention if only for getting us more column inches in the national press than emin an 2025 future winner Hemingway ever will.
why, has Cyril Hoser snuffed it already?
